Nice table, good service, quiet surroundings.
Always a pleasure to share a leisurely lunch with friends at Tony Mandola’s. Food , service, ambiance always consistent and you are never rushed.
This is a very nice place to enjoy quality meals. The beet salad is wonderful. The fresh oysters - perfect. Our fish was delicious. The wait staff was good. All in a good place to dine.
Great food! Wonderful Bellinis
Great seafood restaurant! Calamari-great! Wedge salad-Great! Fried shrimp-Great! Crab cakes-Great! Lobster ravioli-Great! Halibut-Great!
Service from Jarod-GREAT!
Beautiful setting, great service, and delicious food. Perfect evening for us all.
The food was very underwhelming. There was so much butter in both of our dishes that it overwhelmed the halibut and shrimp. So sad given we had been several time before and we raved about the food. Very unlikely we will be back after this experience.
I always enjoy dining here. Good food, service and ambience. I noticed that the lunch prices have risen tremendously. They are not in line with similar restaurants--not very attractive.
The setting is very nice and the service was good, but the food was average at best....and quite overpriced for a lunch menu. I had a pasta dish that was just so-so, my friend had the trout which she said was just okay. Entree salads were big but nothing spectacular. Probably would. It go back. Too many other good restaurants in town.
Always enjoy this beautiful restaurant. Had a great Gumbo, oysters and boudin and ended with best bread pudding I have ever eaten
Small group for pre-theater brunch and a birthday. We arrived on time for a reservation and were promptly seated. Water glasses were filled and, almost immediately, we were asked about drinks and bread or garlic bread. The coffees came quickly and were very good. The breads followed—one immediately, and the garlic bread well after we began eating. Both were crusty and delicious.
We ordered immediately, wanting to make sure we did not miss curtain-call. We all had omelettes. Three requested they be “not overcooked—dried out.” Ordering last, I requested that my omelette be “on the wet side.” They all came somewhat overcooked to the point where my companions cut off the really overcooked ends and ate the middle. They said they enjoyed what they ate, although one said the crab in her omelette was “fishy.”
I sent mine back. The replacement was still not “wet”, but was tasty. My potatoes were barely warm. There was only white toast available with our omelettes, so we all enjoyed the other bread. We finished it; it was not refilled.
The servers kept our drinks topped off. It was very noisy—to the point that I had to keep asking my companions on my right and left to repeat what they were saying.
They asked—in making the reservation— if we were celebrating any occasion. They did nothing to acknowledge the birthday, and we all decided not to raise the issue. I paid $50, including gratuity for two average omelettes, a cup of very good coffee and the great garlic bread, which we were asked if we wanted, but not told was additional.
I’d say our experience was disappointing overall. It was really average, but our expectations were not met—2-1/2 out of 5 stars.
There are many much better alternatives in Houston.
Have been here before and weren't impressed but thought we'd give it another try. Again, mediocre food for the price point. Many other better options in the area!
As always meal was scrumptious and server Fallon was top notch.
Our waiter Eddie was OUTSTANDING !!
Celebrating my husband’s birthday!! He had his favorite dinner soft shell crab. Beautiful presentation and absolutely amazing dish.
Even topped off wonderful dinner with birthday dessert banana key line pie!! Never had better. Fantastic!! They never disappoint alway great evening!!
My husband and I each had an appetizers, a meal, salad, and dessert. Everything was so delicious. I don't think you can go won't eating here. We're already planning our next trip.
My girlfriends and I love this place. Great food, great service, and quiet enough we can actually have a conversation.
The food was very disappointing and the prices have doubled it seems.
The owner personally greets all the guests. The experience was first class in every category. The food was even better if that’s possible.
This is a must have meal for Houston.
Keep up the great work!!!!
Make sure to ask for the items off the menu. Chef special was delicious and not on the menu was lobster bisque. Great services and beautiful inside.
This was visit 2 for my boyfriend and I and we love it! The Mandola’s are so personable, the food is amazing and the service is great!
Have enjoyed it for years, but...the prices have gone way up. Any value is lost. Is it a casual sports bar or fine dining? Appearance is the former, prices are the latter. Although the food is good, the crab cake appetizer is not what it once was. Lesser quality crab, shells, no tamarind glaze as advertised. The Salmon Sophia is one of my favorites, but the price is over $30 for a generous filet but barely any crabmeat on top and just a side of broccolini. I'm sorry Mandola's. We were early at 6pm on a Tuesday, but the restaurant was empty and had very few guests even when we left. Despite our few in number, the hostess seemed disinterested in comings or goings (not there when we arrived, same with at least another couple; slow to bid us goodbye and thank you) and the same with the valet who barely got off his stool at our arrival. Change is in the air here, and not in a good way. Pricing themselves out of their niche.
Doughnut sliders in brunch menu were amazing. Bring an appetite.
Excellent food and service! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
I was shocked at the lack of attention to our table and the quality of the soft shell crab. Overcooked at fairly tasteless. I have had good brunch food here before a few times, so I may give it one more try.
Terrific food, terrific service. I had something arrive at the able not quite up-to-par, but they were all over it and replaced it with the speed of gazelles. Everyone is very accommodating, so friendly, always checking in but not overly 'hovering'. Really great xylophone player in the lobby the night I was there. I'm a visitor from out of town, and this will always be a go-to place for me when visiting Houston. A nice short walk to Stages Rep -- a great place for pre-show dinner.
This was an anniversary date. The food was delicious! Staff is friendly, quick and efficient.
It was a very romantic dinner.
Went with another couple after enjoying a play at the Stages Theatre. Houston Restaurant Week menu was still available and it had several great options. Everyone enjoy the drinks and the food. Very enjoyable dining experience. It was the first time for any of us to dine at Tony Mandola’s.
Great experience. We would recommend Tony Mandola’s.
Lose the sports bar ambiance. The service was great.
Great service. Very attentive wait staff. Visited during Houston Restaurant Week. Great value. Great food.
Went for Sunday brunch. There were several large groups around us, and it got so loud it was hard to talk to the person across the table. Food was good but not great. The frittata was very dense and the sauce on it had good flavor, but had an off-putting color and texture to it. One of us got the "bottomless" mimosas. She was barely able to even have 2, as the bar service was so slow, the second one did not come out until we were basically finished eating. The lobster cobb salad was tasty and had a good deal of meat on it.
The food was delicious. I would definitely go back.
The restaurant had good food especially the crab cakes and Damon salad. However, the food was not good enough to support the cost and horrible service. The waiter was sooooo bad and even lied when I asked for a big glass of water. He said they ran out of big glasses as another waiter was bringing out big waters. Also, he asked if we wanted coffee after our deserts were have gone.
This was not a good first experience.
No frills, seafood the way it should be, fresh and prepared perfectly!
My wife and I went to Tony Mandola's just this past Friday and had a wonderful meal and fun time. I had the red beans and rice as an appetizer and it was delicious. My wife had the Sicilian salad which she always enjoys because, as she says, it is always so fresh and so well-chilled. We both enjoyed the Snapper Martha. I appreciated that the server checked and made sure that I could have another vegetable than the one it was supposed to - brussels sprouts. I had the spinach which was just perfect. i just don't like brussels sprouts so I appreciate being able to substitute another vegetable My wife, who likes brussels sprout, said that they were very good and not mushy.
The flourless chocolate torte was delicious.
The service was impeccable as always.
The ambiance was that of a relaxed Friday night so it was a little noisier than when we go on a Sunday evening or a weekday, but it was a fun atmosphere.
The service is wonderful and the food is great! Will return
My son and I enjoyed lunch during Restaurant Week. The menu was short but sweet. Several choices looked tempting. I had a wedge salad that was one of the best I have had, plus yummy poblano and mushroom chicken over rice. The red beans on the side seemed an odd choice, but they were so good. My son had gumbo and salmon enchiladas verde. He said both were very tasty. Service was very attentive.
One plus: they offer oysters (half shell, Rockefeller, and one more) in any number by the piece. So we could have a mini serving and not be uncomfortably full.
Tony Mandola's provides outstanding service in a comfortable setting with adequate spacing to afford private conversation. This brings me back again and again and again!
The crabcake, redfish and coconut cream pie were outstanding. Looking forward to trying other menu items on my next visit soon.
I am a native Houstonian, and this was my first timining dining at this Houston institution. I started at the bar with a cocktail before my husband and I sat at our table for an early dinner. The bar tender was friendly and helpful, as was our waiter, Fallon. We ordered off the Houston Restaurants Weeks menu, and I was delighted with my choice of the crab cake and blackened fish. In our early 40s, we were one of the youngest couples in the restaurant. The atmosphere leans itself to an older crowd. There is no way anyone under 40 could name the famous faces on the walls. This would be the perfect place to bring my parents for a special occasion dinner.
