Tony Chan's Water Club
Tony Chan is an upscale downtown restaurant that serves contemporary Asian cuisine in spacious surroundings, complemented by a lovely view of the Biscayne Bay. Helmed by Chef Wai K. Li, the restaurant’s menu features classic Japanese and Cantonese fare, including sushi, dumplings, rice and noodle dishes, lamb and seafood. Tony Chan’s most popular menu item is the Peking duck, which comes deboned and stir-fried with fresh vegetables. Diners also rave about the dim sum menu, the Chilean sea bass and the General Tso chicken. Happy hour specials run Mondays to Fridays at the bar.
Tucked within the Doubletree Grand Hotel lobby, Tony Chan is a popular pick for many of the visitors to the bay. Its spacious dining area combined with an extensive menu and an award-winning wine list, makes it an ideal pick for group dining or a romantic date.
The food was very good. The atmosphere would be ok for lunch, but for dinner it felt too much like a cafeteria setting, a little depressing. I would for sure order again as takeout or delivery since the food was very good, but not necessarily dining there in the evening on a date.
We started out only customers and realized why. Food was average at best. Took forever to get check. Had to request from hostess.
Would not recommend.
Was not impressed with her food
Great place,great food!
The food at Tony Chan's rated from good to fair. Our soups, the crispy rice and seafood and the seafood in a brown broth were good and the portions were plentiful. My seafood salad was fresh and tasty. I did not enjoy my spring rolls as they had a strange odor. My husband liked his beef and broccoli, but it was very salty. My spider roll was mediocre, as the rice was not wrapped tightly around the ingredients and the presentation made it less appetizing. As for the ambience, you could not see the water as the reflection on the windows made this impossible at night. The restaurant seemed a little old. I was a bit taken aback by one of the cooks who had his head down on the prep table in the open kitchen for about 10 minutes. Also, I felt the other cooks should have been wearing gloves. I have had much better Chinese food elsewhere and the food did not merit the expensive prices.
Favorite chinese restaurant in Miami. Great food and excellent service!
Well the experience was good, and they were more than welcoming to large groups. However there were numerous errors in getting what we ordered and giving out our food which is fine except they charged us for their mistakes and refused to correct them without us just paying for the correct item on top of paying for the incorrect item.
Advertised magnificent water views but the shades were drawn the whole time blocking the view
Food was good as the prices were very reasonable. The open kitchen was a nice touch
We enjoyed the meal. Location was perfect.
Food was excellent. Outstanding Peking duck!
Very seedy decor in a seedy location. Food quite average and prices high for what's nothing more than your basic neighborhood Chinese dining room. Water club? Where's the water? And the pictures are nothing less than deceiving advertising.
One of the worst Chinese dinners we’ve had ever. This place has really gone downhill. Surprise it has lasted. It was amazing back in its early days.
The dynamite roll was dynamite! Dinner entrees we’re pretty good. the service although adequate lacked effort and elegance befitting the grand hotel.
Good was mediocre. Server forgot a major dish. When brought to her attention, no apology, offered to put it in, but too late.
Will not return!
We always patronize Tony Chan's. We always stay with JW Marriott Biscayne bay. Since we are right here we make a point to visit. The food is always fresh as we watch the food being prepared. Our server was great she made sure all our needs were taken care of. The owner she always comes by to say hello and make us feel welcome. We have been to a lot of Chinese restaurants in our culinary lives, and Tony Chan's Water Club ranks among the very best. We will always patronize this location.
This place is horrible. I showed up at the right time of reservation. There were hardly any customers at the place. They sat me down at a table and completely ignored me for 15 minutes. The staff were standing and chatting away to but didn’t even bother to offer me a glass of water.
I called one of the servers and asked for a glass of water. He hesitatingly poured one. From his look itself I realized that this restaurant has the poorest and most unprofessional staff I have ever met.
I stood up and left the place but not without telling them that they don’t deserve to be on OpenTable at all. It is one of my most painful dining experiences ever and the owners of this place should feel ashamed of their staff, nothing less. This place doesn’t even deserve one star.
Walked away from dinner disappointed. Could have been much better for the price. Also, once again, food did not settle well with our stomachs. Ambiance was nice. Will not return moving forward.
We had been to this establishment once before about 3 years ago and the food and service were spectacular. Unfortunately, neither was at the same level this time. They need to up their game.
The restaurant has an excellent selection of dishes. The dished are brought family style, with the rice on the side, so you can share or sample from the different entrees between people sitting on your table. The dishes that we had were very good. We had sweet and sour pork, and a shrimp in curry sauce (both with vegetables). The kitchen is bordered by glass panes, so you can see the dishes being prepared. The service was very good. The only thing that made me nervous was that on a Sunday afternoon, only 2 tables were full (including mine). The restaurant has probably about 50 tables overall.
Glass kitchen, experienced chefs, great menu, full bar, what more needs to be said
We have been going to Tony Chan's Water Club for many years. This time it was a bit of a disappointment. The vegetable spring rolls were tasteless and the vegetables were watery. The flavor of the birds nest had an “old oil” flavor. My sizzling seafood dish also lacked in flavor and the seafood was DEFINITLY frozen. The service was good and very friendly. The ambience could use a facelift. I doubt we will go back again. I will miss it as it was one of our stops on the way to the Arsht to see a play.
The restaurant was pretty empty when we got there Saturday night. But the staff was very attentive and the place was clean. The dinner menu had a great variety, but the dim sum menu was limited. The beef flank dim sum was good but the pork buns were okay. Young chow fried rice was excellent and the General Tsoa chicken was great. It's too bad there are no water views in this restaurant.
Service and food was great. Prompt service and nice wine selection. The duck with pineapples was delicious. Our server “May” was great, very efficient.
Second time here and delighted to come here. Food was fantastic! Unicorn duck was to die for. Not expensive and family friendly. Love this place.
There is no real view of the bay. The Peking Duck is actually very complicated to order because of the very odd way they describe it in the menu. No one at the restaurant could tell us either because if language barriers. The other items are pretty basic. There are other, better options in the immediate vicinity.
We had a great Valentine Dinner. The food was excellent and the service was great. I would recommend Tony Chan to my friends.
Wouldn't eat there again on a bet. My cat wouldn't even eat it...
Excellent Peking duck as it is made in China. Food was fresh and authentic.
We went early (5:30) so didn’t expect a crowd but no one else was there when we left at 6:30.
Service was good, food bland
Nasty place
Underwhelming. Not at all as pictured. Food was not good. Sushi selection was very small (not even a regular tuna roll on the menu) and some of it was fishy. Server did not speak up so hard to hear her. Main course sushi didn’t all come at same time. Restaurant needs to be updated. No view of water as name implies and no windows to outside.
Tony Chang staff is professionally friendly while serving succulent food
Excellent as always except service wasn’t up to the norm.
Love their gourmet spin on all the Chinese comfort classics. My General Tso chicken had the right balance of sweet and heat, and my date really enjoyed her broccoli beef. Great taste on the pork gyoza appetizer, and I appreciate how they sang Happy Birthday to my date.
Food is decent but the place looks quite tired. Service was rushed and borderline rude. The food was ok nothing special. I cannot say I will go back.
Food is great! Not the place to go for the scene.. just great Chinese food and pekin duck!
Gracious service and delightfully prepared food. Friendly with a broad selection.
Food was horrible. Some of our order never arrived. Don’t go
Not what we expected
Food was outstanding, service was wonderful. Great way to remember Miami.
