Tony Chan is an upscale downtown restaurant that serves contemporary Asian cuisine in spacious surroundings, complemented by a lovely view of the Biscayne Bay. Helmed by Chef Wai K. Li, the restaurant’s menu features classic Japanese and Cantonese fare, including sushi, dumplings, rice and noodle dishes, lamb and seafood. Tony Chan’s most popular menu item is the Peking duck, which comes deboned and stir-fried with fresh vegetables. Diners also rave about the dim sum menu, the Chilean sea bass and the General Tso chicken. Happy hour specials run Mondays to Fridays at the bar.
Tucked within the Doubletree Grand Hotel lobby, Tony Chan is a popular pick for many of the visitors to the bay. Its spacious dining area combined with an extensive menu and an award-winning wine list, makes it an ideal pick for group dining or a romantic date.
A shadow of it's former self - Me and my family have been coming to TC's for the better part of 10 years. Used to be some of the best Chinese food in Miami - over the course of the last 4 years the food has consistently gotten worse. Heavily starched, gooey, thick grease laden sauces abound & drown out most of the wok seared preparations - Peking Duck we order this last Sunday was a significant SHAM, where after the initial crispy skin course, the whole meat & carcass, where taken back to the kitchen for preparation of the second and third (soup) course, and to our shock, the whole Duck had been BOILED to make a very poor rendition of the broth, and the boiled meat (BOILED !!!) meat of the Duck was served with TOFU (TOFU !!) as a main course. SHAME ON YOU TONY CHAN !!!!!!!!!!! WE ARE NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN IN OUR LIVES !!!
I went because this was rated one of the top places for Dim Sum in Miami. WHen we got there at 1:40 on a Sunday afternoon there were only 2 tables of people in the whole restaurant.
We were seated right away, then waited forever and no one even came to our table to give us water. So since we didn't see any Dim Sum on the menu or and Dim Sum carts, and we didn't get any service, and the prices for the food were very high for a lunch, we left.
Had dinner with the family of six on a Friday night. The restaurant is located in a condo/ hotel building located on Biscayne Bay just north of downtown Miami. At 8:00pm the restaurant was only half full. Drinks were serviced and we ordered: Peking Duck, Shrimp, Steamed Fish, Chicken, and fried rice. The duck was prepared perfectly and the presentation was outstanding. All of the dishes were delicious. We had a little fried rice and duck to take home. If you are looking for a nice place to enjoy Chinese/ Asian food you will not be disappointed. Will definitely come again.
The hot & sour soup and appetizers were 5 star! The restaurant has a patina - and could use a bit of updating given its pricing and downtown location. The General Tso's Chicken and the Black Bean Shrimp were both listed on the menu as spicy items, but were extremely bland. The prices here for Chinese are over the top. The manager says they have a dim sum menu that is available for dinner any time. Based on this visit, I think we'll try that the next time.
Best Chinese in Miami.
Great meal on a very very busy night. We were seated right away, only complaint, our spring rolls & one entree were cold.
Typical Cantonese. Food was mostly tasty but not great. Service was rushed with a feeling that the servers were slave labor locked in dungeons between shifts. Plates and silverware seemed 85% clean - probably rinsed and not watched. Expensive for what it is. That written, salty and tasty.
Tony Chan's has been around a long time. Their chefs know how to prepare their menu in a very solid fashion.
Three items that we find always excellent are the hot and sour soup, peking duck and the dynasty fish.
And great location - especially pre-theater! Get in and out quick; good food; friendly service; never crowded!
The server didn't care if we stayed and ate. Very unhelpful and had a poor attitude.
The best Chinese cuisine in Miami! The Peking duck is excellent as are all the dishes!
We have been coming to this restaurant for a while. We always receive excellent service. The food is prepared as you request. If there is any problem it is fixed immediately. We will be back the food is just good.
First of all the waiter had no idea what Open Table was. Did not bring us the menu for Dim Sum and the quality and taste of the food was awful. Waiter was rude and arrogant. The combination of bad food and bad service says " Do not ever Return".
Dishes were delicious, the place was quiet, the servers did their job. Not in a memorable way, but overall everything was fine
We had a very early dinner here at 4:30 upon arriving from Jacksonville prior to our evening session at the Miami Tennis Open. The garlic eggplant and mixed vegetable selections really hit the spot as did the shrimp hot and sour soup. Very attentive service.
We were very disappointed with the food. Every thing was bland and tasteless. No ginger, garlic or other flavors. All of us said that we would not return. Also, right next to the restaurant is a large room in which there was a wedding taking place. Because of the very loud music and the flashing strobe lights, we could hardly have a conversation. I have never, ever, had such bland Chinese food.
We decided to dine here as it was very difficult to find a recommended Chinese restaurant in Miami. The concierge at the Marriott and the taxi drivers could not recommend anything. So we searched online and Google and Opentable showed Tony Chan's Water Club as a recommended restaurant for Chinese food. Since it was located in the same building as the Doubletree Hilton, I figured how could we go wrong.
However, I was very wrong. I was not impressed by food, price, nor service. I'm not saying that the food was bad. It was average. The price was exceptionally high for the ambiance. The service was average, very courteous and helpful, but not at the level of 5 stars.
I find it very difficult to believe the reviews - or maybe my standards are too high for Chinese Cuisine.
There is no water view, and the waitstaff was inattentive, but the food was very good and the convenience to the Arsht Center was great.
Despite all the hype it was very average and uninspiring. The good news is that it is not horribly overpriced and the service was respectable. The special thick soup was good as were the dumplings but it was downhill from there with the main entrees. Probably the screaming child near us did not help my responses here. Management just ignored the situation (like what baby are you talking about?). Definitely convenient to the Marriott just not that terrific and not worth going back to.
In their nearly 20 years of operation, Tony Chan's remains the vanguard of exquisite Chinese cuisine. It may cost slightly more than run-of-the-mill Chinese, but is well worth paying more. I still delight in the "windowed" kitchen, where diners can watch Tony Chan's chefs in action. In addition to the entertainment value, it is reassuring to observe the immaculately kept kitchen.
The food is, as always, excellent. Authentic Chinese cuisine. The service is very good. Good ambience. Definitely recommend. It is one of our regular restaurants.
I had brought in guests from New York and one of them was vegetarian we ordered veg and it came with pork . Shocking the waiter said he wud give us credit but did not. Our guest was vegetarian due to religious reasons and this dos not go well with him
Secondly your waiters do not know what a single malt and my guest had to go to the bar and ask for it
Thirdly we had to sit 45 minutes for our dinner and to be honest it did not go well with our guests and I don't think I will recommend anyone nor come back
I was promised a credit on the bill but with my guests present I did not make an issue about it. Pla comment
My first trip there, and somewhat what I expected. Very old school Chinese; attentive, but not totally pro, service. Interior a bit dingy, way too bright, the kind of place that was somewhat modern 20 years ago, with few changes visible. That said, while the soup appetizer was forgettable, the Peking duck was very good. We might return when in the mood for that style of "Chinese."
I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and quantity of food at Tony Chan's. The sushi was very fresh and was perfectly made for the rolls. The honey chicken was amazing, and the fried rice was good.
Best Chinese food in Miami. Great selection of dishes. Never disappointed with a meal after many times ordering different things. Service could be a little more friendly, but it's not bad. Withe the Restaurant.com voucher ($50 off $100), it's a great deal on top of that. Even without that, the prices aren't ridiculous and I will come back either way.
I am a Chinese food junkie and eat it all the time. Tony Chans is now on the top of my list!
No MSG Chinese - food is good. Service is appropriate. Atmosphere has improved due to recent changes but still weak.
excellent food. the staff is very courteous, friendly and attentive.
We have been regulars here anytime we are in Miami. The food is by far the best Chinese food I have eaten thus far. The service is very attentative. The food is prepared in full view is their demo kitchen. Every item on the menu that I have tried has tasted good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, it is that good.
It will be a nice stop over here and checking out there varied menu. I really enjoy oriental dishes
I had to get up from the table twice to get my own water while the staff sat at the bar eating. It wasn't as if we were the only table in the restaurant.
I ate here a few years ago and didn't think much of it. While attending the nearby Boat Show, I decided to give it another shot. This threadbare, depressing restaurant really failed to please once again. My experience started out badly when I ordered the Szechuan shrimp, the first item listed under seafood. My server told me point blank not to order it. He said most customers don't like it. I asked why, and he couldn't give me an answer. He said people just don't like it. He then proceeded to recommend another shrimp dish that was $8.00 more expensive. Destined to have spicy shrimp, I finally gave in and ordered that. It was fine, but nothing exciting. My seat next to the messy kitchen was no attraction, either. What a disappointment.
The Food was outstanding, service was good & the staff was very friendly & all had a smile. It was our first night in Miami and we chose the restaurant because it was in the DoubleTree where we stayed. I didn't expect the quality of the service and meal we received and it was a great treat!
Have been to Tony Chan's 6 or 8 times over the past 10 years and usually enjoyed a great meal there. Four of us went the other night after not having been there for a year or two. The service was extreemly slow and unatenntative the whole night. The meals were tastless. When we brought it to the attention of the waiter and manager we were told to order our food differently the next time...if you decide to come back. We felt belittled and and will probably never go back. Can't figure out how a nornally great restaurant could do so little to please customers.
The food was excellent but the canned music was hard to take. The service was cometantt but not pleasant.
FOOD WAS VERY GOOD; SERVICE COULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE MORE ATTENTIVE. WE HAD A DEFECTIVE TABLE, AND THEY WOULD NOT CHANGE OUR SEATING BECAUSE THEY SAID ALL TABLES WERE RESERVED.
ONE OF OUR DESSERTS WAS FROZEN, SO WE TOLD THEM ABOUT IT AND THEY TOOK IT OFF THE BILL.
I always try and visit Tony Chan's when I'm in Miami. Has to be one of the best oriental restaurants in town and right on the water. This time I hosted a group of 17 creating a challenging table alignment but they handled it with ease. Chase took dinner orders from 18 people - got it perfect - and never wrote anything down! Just amazing
Upscale chinese Nice ambience and not noisy
Combination Japanese and Chinese restaurant but stay away from sushi if you are from NY. Spicey tuna mad with 1/10 tuna and fillers with strange sauce on top.
We traveled from Edinburgh and found this gem last year, and had to go back.
Another fantastic meal and again watched our food cooked was great. Service was 10 star also wonderful gluten free.
