Tonic Bar and Grille Ratings and Reviews
Bar menu has a nice selection. Our burger and chicken sandwich came quickly & were very good. The music was great but not too loud that you couldn’t have a conversation. Our waitress, Rachel was very attentive and friendly. She made our experience even more enjoyable.
Disappointing dining experience. We believe they mixed up our steak done-ness order and we decided to just let it go since we had a time issue. The steak salad I ordered was mostly lettuce, although they did include a generous portion of flank steak. The menu said "with avocado" and my salad had just one small, thin slice.
The ambiance was more sports bar than fine dining and the prices should reflect that. I do not believe we will return.
My food was delicious but the service was not good, and I was rather embarassed. I scheduled a lunch at Tonic for a business meeting. My colleague and I were talking and needed some extra time to look at the menu. Our server told us that "it was about to get very busy so he needed to keep on schedule." It was incredibly rude, but we were there for business so we ignored the comment and picked our entrees. I ordered the vegetable soup and the tuna tartare. It was phenomenal and I have nothing but good things to say about it.
My colleague ordered the steak sandwich without onions and told the server she was allergic. After eating about a quarter of it, she realized there were onions in it and told the server who said "there probably weren't more." This put my colleague in a very awkward situation: don't eat, or feel lile she's making a scene. The server should have apologized and immediately gotten her a new meal. We had to show the hostess after he left (who was kind and immediately apologized and got my colleague a new meal). Our server was grouchy, inattentive, and de-railed our otherwise productive lunch meeting. With other wonderful restaurants like La Fia, Domaine Hudson, and Chelsea Tavern nearby, Tonic cannot afford service this poor. I will never scheduke an important meal here again: take out only!
Three of us for an early dinner. The service was great and two of us had the rib-eye medium rare which was wonderful. Drinks were good.
The one who got the hanger steak on salad was disappointed in the tough steak. The wedge salad had a good flavor but the lettuce was shredded which made for difficult eating. The creamed spinach was marginal and the asparagus was grilled and tough.
We had a booth at the window and the view was guests and staff ducking outside on the sidewalk for a smoke. I guess if you are going to pay these kind of prices I expect more. There are many better places to get a good steak dinner.
Excellent!...from the greeting upon walking into the restauran; to Gabriella, our wonderful and friendly waitress who was highly knowledgeable of entire menu; to the HIGH QUALITY of fresh food, prepared to perfection; to the ambiance with live music. Superb in every way, a MUST in Wilmington!
The food is overpriced for the portion size and quality that you receive. If offering six wings as an app for 10.00, then ensure they are jumbo wings and not quail wings. The short rib eggroll was not appetizing. The steak salad is overpriced and the ingredients don't make sense. Why are there unseasoned fingerling potatoes in a salad? I probably would just save your money and go to a real steakhouse like Capital Grill, Sullivan's, or even Ruth Chris.
This casual but tasteful restaurant with good food is a great place to meet up with friends. We took advantage of the Saturday Lobster Boil which was packed with 1.25 lb. lobster, clams, and sides but hey kitchen, "How about slitting the tail and cracking the claws right after steaming because a dinner knife just won't cut it?"
Execution from host, wait and kitchen teams sparkles at every turn. Tonic is a great place for a business meal and a business cocktail too! The salad options with protein choices are an overly generous portion of fresh greens and expertly prepared seafood. Don't miss your chance to explore the rest of the menu.
This is a nice place to go, pretty quiet and the food is good. The only issue I have is the limited menu. Entrees were limited - only one chicken dish, salmon - two ways, and steak, various ways. I think they're trying to focus on steak, but when it was Deep Blue they had many more seafood options, it would be nice if they brought some of those back.
We were there for Sunday Brunch and it was if the restaurant was not really ready for business. The food (Eggs Florentine) was barely warm as though they had been sitting and the fruit was small diced. The service was intermittent and there was no one to greet. Our reservation wasn't found although had been made on here. All in all, disappointing day.
What a great place! The place is very nice with a great bar. The service is excellent. The ambiance is comfortable, upscale but casual. If they changed the chef it would be a great spot as the food was barely OK. The waitress was very nice and friendly. The wine list is great. Awesome spot to get together with friends at the bar.
Overall Tonic was OK. The oysters for a starter were very good but the lobster tail with the surf and turf tasted of almost nothing. Also, as this came with mashed potato (which I like), it was very difficult to extract the lobster tail from the shell without spreading potato everywhere - I think it should have been done for me! My colleague's main (Short Rib Egg Rolls) looked pretty terrible and apparently tasted of nothing. We both wanted gelato for dessert but they only had 2 flavours after initially being offered 4!
The food was great, though a little pricey. The service was slower than I would have liked. We had tickets to a play at the Playhouse, and had to kind of flag down the waitress and wait around for our coats. We missed a bit of the "pre show", so that was disappointing.
This evening was a get-together with friends prior to a theater performance. You can't find a more convenient location for dinner if you plan to attend a show at the DuPont or the Playhouse. The menu is creative and different from the 'standard' and everything we ordered was beautifully prepared and a culinary delight. Plan some time - it does get crowded.
