I'm a repeat customer of tonic and on this particular occasion I visited the restaurant for Restaurant Week. Service was slow and the entree was bland. Very unlike tonic, so I will definitely go back although I'm very disappointed in this visit.
My steakhouse salad was very good, but not great. Hubby's crab cakes were a little small; tasted good, but not great; came with tarter sauce, couscous and fresh green beans. We shared the steak rolls for our appetizer. They were yummy, but quite pricy for what you got, just two. We didn't get dessert. Our server was very attentive, though at 8:30pm on a Wednesday evening, there weren't many in the restaurant. My $7.50 glass of Merlot wound up being $8.00 on the bill. Parking is around the corner in the building parking garage, but the restaurant doesn't validate. Overall, our experience was positive, but there are so many restaurants to try, we'll not likely be back at least for a long while.
A great meal, excellent taste, wonderful presentation! Saturday night tenderloin special definitely worth a night out!
My wife and I were here for a quick get away. Went to Tonic for dinner, was seated right away, service was very good and the meals, (filet special and pan seared chicken) were outstanding. Thanks for a grrr rest evening.
Two of us went for Sunday brunch. Nice facility, easy street parking on Sunday, pleasant service people, good eggs Benedict and French toast, and easy to make reservations on Open Table. We were two of only four to six guests from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. That made us wonder because our experience is that three other brunch spots on Market Street within two blocks of the west side of the Hotel DuPont are very busy (and loud) for Sunday brunch. Tonic is a hidden treasure. I hope that management/ownership won't stop Sunday brunch, because we plan to return. We may also try it for dinner for special occasions or theater nights.
I've been wanting to try this for years, but am usually not in the area at lunch time. My friend took me for my birthday lunch. It was very easy to make the reservation. The outdoor eating area is very inviting and modern - it was too hot for us to dine outside, but I will definitely do that in the future. Wait staff was friendly and efficient. Food was delicious - loved the seasoning & spices on the cauliflower appetizer. Burger was done to perfection. I should have gotten the crab cake, but will definitely try that next time.
I was surprised to learn that the Saturday night special, Fillet, was still on the menu. It was not listed in the online version. Terrific meal for a great price.
Food was great! I had the Tuna special which was really wonderful and healthy. My colleagues had the salmon and steak which they also enjoyed
Loved that that had some healthy choices as well as things for those that want to eat more hearty dishes
A Monday evening dinner for 4. Great food, Mike was our waiter and he was excellent!
Pleasantly surprised by Tonic! Our server Mike was excellent! Very attentive and polite. Ask for him when you go. Saturday night is Filet Mignon night. I ordered my steak medium and it came out perfectly. It was, IMO, better than Harry’s Savoy.
My food was delicious, and my server, Yasmine, was fantastic! I will definitely be back!
One of the best filet I ever had
Great food, Great Service, Great Price
Everything started out fine, with both the service and food, but quickly went downhill. We started with the raw bar sampler, which we thoroughly enjoyed - oysters with a basil mignonette and traditional cocktail sauce and freshly grated horseradish, shrimp, tuna tartare, and crabmeat seasoned with just a little too much Old Bay. Our server totally disappeared when we wanted to order a second course and another glass of wine. We were eventually waited on by a different server. Our next course wasn't so wonderful. The French onion soup, which is supposedly a "Tonic favorite" was way too salty, and I like salt. The companion's corn and feta salad tasted "old" - not fresh and crisp, and with stale tortilla strips. We were disappointed.
We continue to use Tonic Bar & Grille for business meetings and Happy Hours for work. This has been the best place downtown that is easy to get to, great food, great atmosphere, and staff is phenomenal!
When I made the reservation the open table website told me the only thing available for noon was a high top table in the bar so I took it. When we got to the restaurant there was only 1 table in the whole restaurant that was occupied and the hostess was at a loss as to why that happened. What’s up with that?
We came for a birthday celebration and had such an amazing meal. Our waiter, Michael was very helpful in our wine selections and an overall joy. He was entertaining, knowledgeable and professional. If we could pick our waitstaff every time we dined there, hands down he’d be our choice. The food is always superb from the apps to dessert. Tonic is my number one choice for a dinner for two to a celebration with friends, no matter the day. This place never lets me down.
Good service and with reservation, we did not have a wait. We were well taken care of although the meals were pricey.
Tonic has recently changed ownership, so I was a little apprehensive. But no need to worry. It was excellent. We had a Mother's Day buffet and it was great. We'll be back to try it again for a regular meal.
Very personable service, although server was sloppily dressed. Did a good job though. Food is solid. Filet mignon was outstanding, as was salad. Not too noisy, so we could talk and visit nicely with our friends. Would recommend and would return.
Great food, great service. Will be going back.
Great atmosphere and excellent service. The food was a little bland and overpriced but overall a nice spot.
Our server, Gabriella, was efficient and prompt. Plus, she knew the menu very well.
We went here before going to see Brian Regan at Hotel DuPont. Had a great time and the food was delicious! It took a little long for the food to come. But, overall it was a great experience!!
Chef Bradley was amazing. Cannot wait to return.
We had never been to Tonic. Excellent food. Wait staff was excellent.
Love Tonic, went there for Restaurant Week on Friday and was disappointed with my meal...first time usually everything is great!
We went for the Wilmington Restaurant week. Menu choices were good: enjoyed the smoked salmon mouse, blackened mahi mahi was delicious and the flourless chocolate torte was lovely.
Our waiter was very friendly and gave delicious drink recommendations, service was great! Would dine here again.
Had the fixed price 3 course dinner for $35 during restaurant week. Everything was delicious. Smoked salmon profiteroles with a cucumber salad, beef tenderloin en croute with asparagus, mashed potatoes and a Demi glacé which was to die for, and peach/berry brûlée for desert. One of the best meals I have had in the Wilmington area.
Food was very good. Wait staff very on top of things. Would definitely go back.
Appetizers and drinks were really good ! I’ll try the steak next time .
Everyone was friendly and courteous, this is our go too restaurant when we go into Wilmington!
Went for a pre-theater lunch with my honey of 50+ years. Nice place. Pleasant atmosphere; comfortable seating; efficient and very friendly service. Saturday afternoon lunch menu is a little limited, but perfectly suitable for the occasion. The food was excellent. Best burger (perfectly cooked to my medium rare order) and fries I've had in years!
We have always had a great experience at Tonic but Friday night was Theater night and the restaurant was extremely busy.
The shrimp came out of the kitchen pretty dirty and was sent back. The steak was over cooked and the table where we were seated
Was right in the path to the kitchen. Michelle did the best that she could considering how busy it was but our night wasn’t really that great.
Great option for pre-theatre dinner. They offer a three-course prix fixe menu but we ordered from the regular dinner menu. I enjoyed the walnut-sweet potato soup du jour and arugula salad. Service was efficient but not rushed.
It was a very nice place with a good menu and the service was outstanding. The food was very good and fair for the value
The Tonic Bar met our expectations again. The selections of wines, suggestions for new ones to try were spot on. We again had their fillets which are good to perfection. The dessert was off as we had the cobbler which was gummy and hid the taste of the peaches. We were not rushed, and wait staff made sure all our needs were met.
Food was great and our server was wonderful.
This is the first time we had dined at Tonic Bar and Grill. The food choices were good. We shared a cauliflower appetizer which was very tasty. The wine selection was good. The salmon was also very good.
Quiet night. They had 2 big parties in the back so waitress wasn’t as attentive but it was fine as we weren’t really in a rush. Limited menu but we were there for steaks which were excellent.
