Tom's Lyme Regis
OK but not as good as the other 4 dining exoeriences we had during our stay in Lyme yet it was the most expensive. As such it wasn't good value, our cocktails took so long to arrive that we had them with the seafood platter rather than wine. We had to then ask for the wine list. Lobster served without claw crackers, picks, also no lemon on a platter of mixed seafood. No serving cutlery so we had to use the forks we were eating with on a shared food platter, never good but especially not during Covid-19 pandemic. The overly bright lighting, formica tables and macrame and paintings for sale gives a cafe feel at higher end restaurant prices.
Nice lunch. Service was excellent. Great views. Oysters and haddock were yummy
The food itself was excellent. No complaints there at all.
We did however feel we were completely rushed, not something I wanted when going out for a meal.
In the first instance I received a call from the restaurant to tell me I could come earlier than my booking if I wanted to. Then from taking a seat we had finished 2 courses in under an hour.
Going out for a meal should be about more than just good food, it is to be enjoyed not rushed. If I had wanted a quick bite I would’ve gone to Nando’s and saved myself a small fortune.
Due to a ‘rogue family’ stealing our table, by pretending to be my family, Rob who is front of house, sprang into action. Ushering us to the lobby and opening a complimentary bottle of Prosecco for us, started to rearrange the restaurant to set up another table for us.
Chef Tom also came to our table to apologise for the confusion. In minutes we were seated and with complimentary crab croquettes from the kitchen the meal began.
Superb from start to finish. Food is amazing and the service matches it. I would definitely recommend it, but be aware of imposters who steal your open table bookings.
Second visit was as good as our first. Top marks to Tom for the quality of the cooking, everything was cooked to perfection. It is a bit pricey but worth it....best food in Lyme Regis by some distance.
The booking was very easy. I requested an outdoor table and ordered a Tom's Fish Board and paid for it in advance to make sure they don't run out of ingredients as the booking was late lunch. All was done swiftly and pleasantly. The oysters were fresh and delicious and the lobster had amazing spiced butter. These two items were not enough for the price and the fact that it is supposed to be for up to 4 people. We had only 5 oysters, and half a lobster. I think 8 oysters and a full lobster would have been more appropriate for the price and to divide between 4 people specially that the rest of the items (smoked salmon, crab salad with mayo and mackerel terrine are not that costly. They offered bottomless chips, salad and bread. We opted for a second round of the hime made delicious bread and exotic leafy salad. Highly recommended specially if they serve more of the main items.
Great food, service in a lovely setting overlooking to sea.
Amazing seafood platter and reasonable Rose for lunch - high quality and beautifully cooked and presented. Can’t wait to return.
Staff and service were good, our food was very good, but we were pleased that we ate early evening as menu items were sold out later
Very enjoyable meal in an excellent location. Service was good.
Great place to lunch or have evening dinner and watch the holidaymakers go by.
Fantastic local oysters, lobster and fish, as well as Dorset pinot noir rose wine. We had a seat outside on a gorgeous evening. We'll be back!
Disappointed. Lack of attention to detail ie clearing of empty glasses and bottles, no offer of further drinks nor any enquiry as to whether we had enjoyed our meal.
Poor inattentive service by ind particular waiter, it felt like we were not welcome there.
Amazing food! Staff very attentive and good atmosphere
Loved Toms, a lovely location on the seafront and service was brilliant.
Food was fantastic, really fresh and loved that it was a small menu with every dish cooked beautifully. Scallops were delicious!
We both enjoyed our breakfast at Tom's but felt that the menu choices were limited especially as one in our party was a coeliac. It just looked like a good sweep up and wash the tables quickly would have been nice. Staff very polite which was nice. We will go back sometime and hope that they take our comments and spruce the area up a bit. They have a prime location on the front and I feel they did not make the most of what they have.
Lovely food, the scallops a highlight.
Service effective and we appreciated their patience when our baby was a bit upset.
Simple fresh menu delivered superbly great atmosphere
Fabulous meal, great service and the views over Lyme Bay are breath-taking.
Rarely do we knock on kitchen door to personally thank chefs for an awesome dining experience but we did at Tom's.
Good food good service and nice ambiance would go there again
Expensive restaurant serving seafood and fish. Disapointing Inconsistant quality. I was waiting for my main course for 10 min while my family already eating theirs. My daughter was seved almost burned battered fish generously sprinkled with large salt crystals which she was trying to scrape off with no much success. Sole was amazing, totally worth £32. I have ordered monk fish tail with chicken broth source. The portion was too small, once taken off the bone, no more than 100 gr, as there was a very thick bone inside. The meat dry and tasteless, the source did not commlemented the monk fish, quite opposite, was sharp like gravy. Ended up filling myself up with chips for £30 pounds. I should off complained but as I did not want confrontation and arguing to spoil the evening. Overall good, but overexpensive and Inconsistant. Would not recommended.
We had dinner at Tom's Lyme Regis during the hot school half term week. Having tried and failed to book and Hix and Mill restaurants (fully booked for the whole week), we decided to give Tom's a go for my birthday dinner.
From start to end we had super friendly responses to our few requests.
The location of the restaurant is amazing, just by the beach overlooking Lyme Bay.
The food is fresh, well prepared and it was great to see the chef patron Tom on the pass, which was outside the kitchen, checking every dish going out. The seafood, especially the oysters and the scallop dish was superb.
This is friendly fine dining, not at all formal where you can eat good seafood, which fills a gap in Lyme Regis. Fresh local produce, lovingly prepared. Good select wines, some from local wineries was a good addition. Service was super friendly, albeit a little sloppy and rough around the edges but I'm sure they will get into the swing of things quickly. We went for morning coffee and croissants a few mornings as well and these have been the highlights of our week as finding good coffee can be harder than finding good oysters around these parts!
Definitely give this new restaurant a go.
Great food and service, definitely worth a visit.
Had a great evening food was delicious and the staff very attentive, our third visit now and each time has been as good
Delicious bisque , sole and lobster. Just wished some wet wipes were given after tackling the lobster :)
Amazing food and great staff highly recommended and will be back asap
Fabulous dinner and breakfast at Tom’s. Wonderful food, superbly cooked. Exemplary service, with a stunning view to boot!
What could be better?!
Nice restaurant, right next to the seafront, very friendly service. Lovely ambience and food was generally good. Probably the best home cooked roll I have had.
Things to improve although the food was nice, for my main the steak was a bit too salty, and I asked for medium rare but it came as rare. The chips were chunky and well cooked, but again too salty for my taste. I would advise reducing the amount of salt used in cooking the steak, or use different type of salt (not salt flakes) also leave the salt off the chips and provide a salt shaker for the customer to use at their discretion.
Overall I really enjoyed the meal and would certainly come again.
Delicious food. The scallop starter was one of the best we’ve ever tasted. Fresh lobster main, and the baked fig desert was a lovely creation.
Staff were attentive and friendly throughout.
Quite noisy inside. Sat Right next to kitchen area. Pestered 3 times to order food when we hadn’t even received our g&t even though they had plenty of staff dashing about looking busy doing nothing.
Starter of asparagus salad had literally 2 spears broken in half. Very poor. Scallops were very good. Best thing we ate were the chips.
The price we paid is more than Hix and the quality and talent in the cooking is nowhere near the same. Nor is the setting and ambience.
When we left ( after 1 hour as service was so rushed) the chef was by the exit looking at his phone. He didn’t even bother to look up and say goodnight! Won’t rush back.
Short menu but everything good. Great, friendly service and right by the beach. Hard to beat in Lyme Regis.
Excellent family fun restaurant. A memorable dining experience.
Had a lovely meal, the lobster is to die for. Service is friendly and the ambiance is nice, too.
Delicious food, good sized portions, good service and pretty good value too
A Small but varied menu. The steak was one of the best we had ever had with a delicious sauce.
We called in for coffee that morning and received a pleasant welcome.
First time at Tom’s Kitchen, super evening and delicious food. Fabulous addition to Lyme Regis. Look forward to the next time!
I had the steak and my lady had the lobster, both were outstanding and all of the staff were excellent, no long wait for food whatsoever, will 100% be returning when I’m back in Lyme. 5 star across the board!
Lovely food, great quality, best cooked breakfast had in a long time! I hate a greasy fry up and no grease in sight. Good service and really enjoyed eating out here. We will be back when in Lyme Regis!
