We serve eclectic Japanese-American cuisine and serious wine in a former adult video store. Since opening, Tomo has received recognition as one of the country's best new restaurants by Esquire and Robb Report and has been nominated for Outstanding Wine Program by the James Beard Foundation.

Chef Brady Ishiwata Williams’ menus are personal, and feature outstanding ingredients prepared simply and with confidence.

Our wine program highlights rare and ephemeral wines made by creative, principled people. We also serve a variety of classic and seasonal cocktails, emphasizing small-batch spirits and quality nonalcoholic options.

We chose something out of each category on the a la carte menu and everything was delicious. Cold spicy cucumbers, sweet ‘n sticky fried chicken, Japanese sweet potato, cacio pepe rice cakes and the amazing pork chop were all great choices. Followed up with the shaved ice. We left absolutely full and happy!

Small non -cohesive portions, except on a few dishes such as cacio e pepe rice cakes and sweet potato dish. Not elevated enough to match the pricing. Unhappy with the theme of "share plates". How can you share such small portions? Be more studious if you want to present other cultures' cuisines well.

Loved the updated menu experience at Tomo. Even the seemingly “common” items like the Cesar salad were just a little special and very very tasty. The vibe was a little more casual with the revamped menu but the service was still excellent. Can’t wait to return and try some more of the new menu items.

Tomo’s recent menu evolution has resulted, somehow, in an even more high quality dining experience, and at a quality price point well below what it could be. The staff continue to demonstrate why they’re the best in the city, and even the new folks - we see you “D” - seem like they’ve been there forever with flawless execution and actual kindness - not always guaranteed elsewhere - but it is at Tomo! Thanks team!

Delightful experience in an unexpected location and worth a visit. First, the food quality and flavor is top-notch and equals or betters most venues at this price level and is not what you expect in a neighborhood outside of a "downtown" restaurant. Flavors and ingredients are what you might expect of a Japanese restaurant but presented in a very modern American food style. The beverage choices range from an excellent wine list and full bar. I highly recommend the NA Oolong Tea Sour. Staff made us feel welcome into a decor that is decidedly modern and feeling of old Japan.

We ate the steam burger, TOMO Caesar Salad, crab fried rice, prawns and fried chicken. The burger, salad and fried chicken were great, chef's take on the classics. The crab fried rice was more like a risotto and did not particularly taste like crab. Prawns were grilled so came with shell on and I should have foreseen it would be difficult to eat. We did not order any cocktails as partner only drinks wine and I am severely allergic to alcohol. There was only one server so it took a long time for server to get to us and then there was a lot of waiting for our food.

Excellent experience at Tomo. The service was outstanding, attentive, and fun. We did five share plates for two people. Every plate was good, two were outstanding (scallop tacos and halibut). We ordered a bottle of wine from their extensive and eclectic wine list. The wine (a Chablis from France, from a natural wine producer) was the perfect pairing with the food. It was a bit of a drive, but we agreed we would do it again.

Food was mostly good. The asparagus and steam burgers were excellent. The shave ice dessert and crab rice disappointed. The service was horrible and I won't go back.
