Tomatina - San Mateo
Tomatina is designed to appeal to as many people as possible, which is why they carry a vegetarian, gluten-free and children's menu in addition to their regular ones. Each month, Tomatina offers seasonal specials in addition to the normal menu. These offerings have included a chicken apple salad, roasted cauliflower pizza and even a proscuitto and fig piadine. Staples of the menu that guests can always count on are dishes such as the mozzarella and prosciutto sandwich, ravioli di formaggi, mini-hand tossed pizzas and a chicken spaghettini with spinach, parmesan and an onion-tomato broth.
Enjoyed a great Italian Cobb salad. It would have been perfect if the restaurant had used freshly grilled chicken instead of cold. All of the salads with protein option were served cold...salmon, steak, chicken. My dining partner and I agreed it would have been nice if a little effort had been put forth to make the proteins freshly cooked.
Otherwise everything was nice. A quiet night so it was easy to chat.
Great for a group of people, very spacious, good food.
Enjoyed lunch, had the lunch special with mixta salad and pizza. Great service, tasty food and reasonable prices. Will be back.
Our food was really good, and our server was excellent! Two in our group had severe food allergies that our server took seriously. She made sure that we had a relaxed eating experience.
Forty minutes to get a drink (and then the wrong one showed up), appetizers ordered but never brought, waitress was nice but everything was slow.
Definitely pass the next time around.
Service is always fantastic! Sarah’s cocktails are custom created. Lilian gets everything right. Food is consistently delicious and the management team leads a great group of people.
Our family-favorite spot!!
Tomatina’s is a good restaurant, for casual Italian food. The garlic bread rolls are outstanding; the rest of the meal was good but not great. Server was good and friendly, but not great.
Came at a time with less customers. Service was fast and food very good for 3 people.
desert also good. Finished in about an hour and place filled with more people. Was my 4th time there.
service was a little abupt and server could've been warmer and more personable.
The service was good but the pasta dishes were disappointed as the sauce but so blended. I can get better sauce from the cant.
Great food! Excellent service! The happy hour menu was a real treat. The meatball appetizer was a big hit at the table.
My husband and I went here for our date night. Didn't have to wait for a table, order a cocktail & their famous garlic bread rolls and we were happy!
Good service, nice atmosphere, open and spacious. Food is good — nothing fancy, but simple and good.
I was surprised, the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We both had salmon and a caesar salad. They even gave us the option anchovies which we accepted. Overall a very good experience, we will be back.
We enjoy Tomatina's a a good place to meet. My sister and I and our families are on both sides of the Bay.
Reservations suggested. Busy Saturday, but servers helped servers. Food was outstanding. I recommend you give them a try.
The food is good, but the service is always lacking. Very slow, and items are often incorrect or forgotten.
Service very slow. Not enough waiters. Food ok. Would not recommend to friends.
Wonderful location! Excellent place for parties or small groups! Family friendly! We had the best food with an excellent wine selection and beers! Will be back soon!
Food is good and atmosphere is very causal. Great for meeting a friend or last minute dining
This restaurant needs to go away. The food was HORRIBLE. I have almost never sent any food back but here I sent back two items and I should have sent back more but didn't because it was such a struggle to explain why the first two items were unacceptable. I will NEVER NEVER NEVER eat here again. The garlic rolls were covered in burnt garlic and covered in salt - like seriously spoonfuls of salt. The beet salad was only tossed oil and probably a good 1/3 cup of oil...no joke...horrible. I have never met a beet salad I didn't like or would refuse to eat until now. The shrimp pomodoro pasta was nothing to be desired. The shrimp were large but did not taste like shrimp one bit. weird slimy waterlogged. The tomato sauce was no different than someone dumping a can of crushed tomatoes with no seasoning whatsoever. The mushroom pizza was edible but way to rich and the sausage was a very weird texture I have never experiences before, took the leftover pizza home and it stunk so bad. tried eating it the next day and it had an odd and gross taste. The caesar salad was not bad and the only thing my husband and I ate. Also, can't stand it when you purposely order and appetizer, then salads and then entrees but they don't course it out, then come a long time after with EVERYTHING and complain their is not enough room on our table. On top of it, they gave us the bill without removing the 2 dishes we sent back and they said no problem they will take it off our bill. felt tricked. horrible place never again. I still feel burned by what we still ended up paying because I felt it was no way at all deserving of anything. Too many great restaurant in San Mateo to even think of going here. McDonalds would have been better
Very good food, quickly prepared and nicely served. Reasonable prices and, thank heaven, you could hear your friends.
Tomatina is a great casual restaurant for a pizza or pasta meal. Great for families and large groups.
First time going and food was pretty good. My husband ordered the salmon pasta dish and I ordered the salmon piadine. The piadine was good but wasn't easy to cut with the serrated knife but I would order it again.
Nice place for a family dinner. Friendly and accommodating.
We were a group of 12 for lunch. Delivery of food was staggered and the last 2 people were served almost 10 minutes after the others.
Apart from that, great experience. Great food!
Great food, I've never had a bad experience at Tomatina.
Great service and fresh food! Excellent experience
Food was really good and the winter menu was a great comfort. The way they cooked the kale was just perfect not too crunchy and softened just the right amount
We enjoyed family time
Went here with my family for a late dinner, booked my reservations on open table. Waited about 10 minutes, which was about right since we were early. Restaurant was crowded , Saturday before Christmas.
At the time I visited (early lunch) it was quiet and service was quick. Usually I see a more folks in for dinner time.
Enjoyable environment, reasonably priced, good Italian food. Good service. Perfect for families. Nice to be able to get in somewhere in San Mateo on a Saturday night easily. Appreciated that they honored our open table reservation ahead of others who were waiting. Large portions allowed for lunch on Sunday.
Friendly service, clean, nice atmoshpere, and delicious food. Always interesting specials, fresh, and very reasonable. Cocktail we're great too. Highly recommend for a nice local lunch or dinner. Parking can be tricky.
The service was great but the actual food was not worth the cost of the meal.
The food was great, the whipped cream was made fresh. Loved the buttered nut squash, gelato and pumpkin cheesecake! The service was great and the manager even checked in on us to make sure lunch went well. Definitely coming back!
When you get service like Kimmy gave us Saturday you just want to tell anyone that will listen. Kimmy was very attentive and friendly. The teenagers in our group were even impressed with the service we received (and you know how hard it is to make teens happy!)
The waitress was also bartending so service started well but was inconsistent after our order. The food came out fairly quickly - the food was bland, uninteresting, and lacking in flavor; Italian in name only.
