Tomatina - San Mateo
Tomatina is designed to appeal to as many people as possible, which is why they carry a vegetarian, gluten-free and children's menu in addition to their regular ones. Each month, Tomatina offers seasonal specials in addition to the normal menu. These offerings have included a chicken apple salad, roasted cauliflower pizza and even a proscuitto and fig piadine. Staples of the menu that guests can always count on are dishes such as the mozzarella and prosciutto sandwich, ravioli di formaggi, mini-hand tossed pizzas and a chicken spaghettini with spinach, parmesan and an onion-tomato broth.
Tomatina is a great casual restaurant for a pizza or pasta meal. Great for families and large groups.
First time going and food was pretty good. My husband ordered the salmon pasta dish and I ordered the salmon piadine. The piadine was good but wasn't easy to cut with the serrated knife but I would order it again.
Nice place for a family dinner. Friendly and accommodating.
We were a group of 12 for lunch. Delivery of food was staggered and the last 2 people were served almost 10 minutes after the others.
Apart from that, great experience. Great food!
Great food, I've never had a bad experience at Tomatina.
Great service and fresh food! Excellent experience
Food was really good and the winter menu was a great comfort. The way they cooked the kale was just perfect not too crunchy and softened just the right amount
We enjoyed family time
Went here with my family for a late dinner, booked my reservations on open table. Waited about 10 minutes, which was about right since we were early. Restaurant was crowded , Saturday before Christmas.
At the time I visited (early lunch) it was quiet and service was quick. Usually I see a more folks in for dinner time.
Enjoyable environment, reasonably priced, good Italian food. Good service. Perfect for families. Nice to be able to get in somewhere in San Mateo on a Saturday night easily. Appreciated that they honored our open table reservation ahead of others who were waiting. Large portions allowed for lunch on Sunday.
Friendly service, clean, nice atmoshpere, and delicious food. Always interesting specials, fresh, and very reasonable. Cocktail we're great too. Highly recommend for a nice local lunch or dinner. Parking can be tricky.
The service was great but the actual food was not worth the cost of the meal.
The food was great, the whipped cream was made fresh. Loved the buttered nut squash, gelato and pumpkin cheesecake! The service was great and the manager even checked in on us to make sure lunch went well. Definitely coming back!
When you get service like Kimmy gave us Saturday you just want to tell anyone that will listen. Kimmy was very attentive and friendly. The teenagers in our group were even impressed with the service we received (and you know how hard it is to make teens happy!)
The waitress was also bartending so service started well but was inconsistent after our order. The food came out fairly quickly - the food was bland, uninteresting, and lacking in flavor; Italian in name only.
I was going to give this 5 star but they charge $1 for each plate if you are going to have a birthday cake there.
Service is great - friendly & helpful management. Great for family gathering and birthdays or just a go to Italian restaurant.
The staff was very nice and attentive. They kept checking up on us. We stayed late (group of 8 catching up with each other) and they did not hurry us out. Gave us 2 free tiramisu desserts for 2 birthdays.
Ordered gluten free pizza and it wasn’t gluten free so I got sick.
Very polite staff that seemed to really care if we liked something. They did a great job remembering our birthday. Gave us dessert with a candle. Very accommodating.
Second day in a row that I went to this restaurant.
Tried their individual pizza.
Fresh, no dryed edges, nice baked.
First time here, will go back again
Nice service too.
We had to wait ten minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation. There was one hostess and no one on the abundant staff jumped in to help her seat guests even though there were plenty of empty tables. Our cocktails came after we were done with our appetizers and both the appetizers and the entrees came at the same time. Apparently no communication between the server, bar, and the kitchen staff. Spaghetti and meatballs had no seasoning. All in all not a place I would either go back to or recommend.
Have been here several times and since we had our three grandchildren that night, decided a place like this was appropriate. The menu is especially strong on pastas and they have good children's choices. Service was typically slow but our waiter was as accommodating as possible and our kids were thankfully patient. Monthly specials are always good. Wine is fairly priced and they were generous with the soft drinks.
The wait for our food was very long. Food for the adults came out before the kids. The hostess called me on my mobile asking me where I was when I was actually sitting inside the restaurant. Very disorganized.
It was just very very loud and not for "date" night. Got kids? Perfect place. They are running around and screaming. Food was ok, kid stuff. Drinks were good. Employees were not thrilled to be there. Oncer for us, families will love it
Great service and good food. Good gluten free options.
Food is very good and reasonably priced. We had excellent service from Ashley! The Bruchetta was the best I have ever had.
Our waiter was not good. He might have been new, but we were his only table and he made the meal leass enjoyable than it should have been, especially on Mother's Day. There were eight of us and he took orders without asking everyone at the table for their order. We had to call him back to the table, twice. Then the food came out before the salads, and he said "Oh, I guess that is my fault" and left without offering to keep the food warm while the salads were eaten. The food was good, but the salads went to waste. Since nothing was offered to fix it, we took it out of the tip. Better training is needed.
Mother’s Day meal. Good food, slow service but we were not in a rush. I will go back.
