Tomatina - Alameda
Tomatina is a classic Italian restaurant. This is a casual and relaxed Italian neighborhood restaurant. As a sharp contrast to fine Italian dining, this is a place to enjoy a glass of wine and unwind with unpretentious pasta dishes served in hearty portions. Tomatina is designed to appeal to as many people as possible, which is why they carry a vegetarian, gluten-free and children,s menu in addition to their regular ones. Each month, Tomatina offers seasonal specials in addition to the normal menu. These offerings have included a chicken apple salad, roasted cauliflower pizza and even a proscuitto and fig piadine. Staples of the menu that guests can always count on are dishes such as the mozzarella and prosciutto sandwich, ravioli di formaggi, mini-hand tossed pizzas and a chicken spaghettini with spinach, parmesan and an onion-tomato broth.
Good for family dining.
Made a reservation for 8 of us on what should be a chill time of day, must have been very understaffed. Our drinks took over 30min to come out. Waitstaff was very apologetic but still... Food was good, just a small pizza to share. Dissappointing service is all.
The servers were very nice, but too busy. Food was good.
Never disappoints, and it is our go-to place for family dining in Alameda. Great menu. Efficient, friendly service. Great value. Our vegetarian granddaughter is home from college; and it was a nostalgic treat to bring her, since we have enjoyed dining here with her for 17 years.
Great food - great value - great service!! What else can you say. Our family goes any time we have a get together.
We made a reservation and requested a high chair. Everything was waiting for us when we arrived, even the crayons and coloring menu for the little one! Wonderful experience for our family.
We love Tomatina!!
We go all the time and the food was, as usual, fresh and excellent. I just wish you didn't take the Lasagne off the menu! That was my favorite dish over the last year.
Plus I'm not sure why you don't have an item like lasagne on an Italian menu. Please consider putting it back on, all four of us love it!
Overall, we love Tomatina for the good price for well prepared food!
Celebrated my birthday lunch here Friday afternoon before Xmas....bunch of my gal pals started drinking wine early and were having a blast by the time 2pm came around. Janette, our server, performed in an awesome manner like a true professional handling a large party with ease and the pizzas here from the wood oven are the best in town!
Will not be returning here after poor service and mediocre food.
Service was too slow. Had to ask for serving utensils as the salads were large enough to share, party of 8. Seemed like having to ask for things instead of foresight and being provided without asking.
Nice waitress and good food.
The salmon dinner was bland, and the chicken parmigiana was also bland. I used to love coming to this restaurant, but I may consider a different one next time.
Enjoyed the fall menu. However Butternut squash ravioli pictured as having cranberries had none and the brown butter was too brown.
Very friendly waitstaff. Never returned to refill our water.
Having the tasting menu for the staff right near the entry where customers wait was convenient for the staff to grab a bite as they passed but not so appetizing seeing uneaten food remaining on a table. Made it look as though the bus staff not doing their job.
Hostess was rude. Service was friendly but bad. Food was Ok.
Happy Hour drink and appetizers are the best deal in town. Still good service and food quality is consistently high. But expect prices to rise where even pizza will become unaffordable to the masses......LOL!!
Great service by Alia and Dominique!! Happy Hour is the best time for this family-friendly Pizza joint in Alameda. And the other stuff is not bad!!!
I have been here many times and order the same thing - the Caprese piadini and a glass of wine. I love the crispy tortilla and fresh lettuce, tasty sun dried tomato’s and fresh mozzarella cheese with pesto sauce. This is what I come for. Unfortunately the last two times have been s miss. The tortilla was too soft - not crispy enough and the lettuce was obviously wilted - flabby and showing brown marks on the leaves. The slices of mozzarella were too thick. They messed it up! I will give them one more shot at making it right . I would have sent it back but they were busy . it took a while to get the order and I was starving so I ended up eating it. This was not an enjoyable meal.
Nice family joint for outstanding pizza and pasta. Service is pretty solid no matter how busy. Best value in Alameda!
The cheese pizza tasted like card board and the salad was wilted and salty. I was very disappointed. It cost $130!
Happy Hours 3-6pm weekdays are really a god deal for food and drink!!!
A nice lunch spot. Reasonable and good, hearty Italian dishes. Can’t go wrong bringing kids and guests. An Alameda favorite for get together.
I go to the Tomatina in Alameda. There is a new host/ assistant manager at this location. He has been there for about 4 weeks now. He is SUPER RUDE. I don’t know where all of the friendly, competent hosts/ assistant managers are. But, he probably ran them off. He is not nice, he is rude, he nods his head to where you should go. Jeez. Just speak to me. The assistant manager/ bartender is still there and the server/ assistant manager is still there, but this guy is terrible.
The lunch special at $10.95 may be the best deal in town......
A comfortable place without high pressure, relaxed. Nothing was spectacular, but that was just the point.
Waitress was great except the helpers delivered foods and picked up plates, we were sharing with few dishes and still eating, she picked up our foods, and asked nicely to get it back, she said, "i asked you did not say yes" and walker away with an attitude, it was Tuesday night dinner the place was not busy, if it was busy we could understand it, first time there, and do not plan to return
Great lunch or dinner pizza and pasta joint, I believe the best deal in Alameda as far as family dining is concerned. Everything is prepared very well and tasteful and fresh. Full professional service is reliable and hands-on. No need to get dressed up, just bring the kids and the creepy uncle!!
Food is always well prepared. Ambience is comfortable and friendly. A good place for a casual family get together. Creative cocktails as well.
We love Tomatina! It’s a family friendly place with fantastic food. I like the open kitchen and that they use fresh ingredients.
Delicious food, great server and outside patio was much quieter than inside the restaurant for an early dinner. Looking forward to my next visit!
This is a tricky question. I generally like this place, but last experience was horrible. They did not have my reservation reasy, made me wait half hour and seated a bunch of people in front of me, while I was waiting for a seat on the bar.
Very friendly and good service. The only problem was the seating. Not easy to get in and out of the booths. Will sit at a table or combo table/booth by window next time.
Had a great Valentine’s Day dinner.. The food was really delicious and service was great.
Great service and food choices were good. Recommended for family night out.
Great place for dinner with the family but every time we go my stepdad orders a club soda with a lime. He never gets the lime, it’s usually nothing or a lemon slice. It’s become a running joke to see if his order will be right. So far no!
We really like Tomatina's. The food is consistently good. It's not gourmet food but everyday casual food. The only thing was our server was not that attentive but she looked exhausted.
Love Tomatina, but they don’t have a fryer so no can do fried calamari. That said, everything else on the menu is superb and the service to match. It is just a local favorite in Alameda despite the throngs of other pizza joints around Park St. Go for it!
Solid everything!!!! Great job to Tomatina in Alameda, a family style joint thatreally serves delicious pasta and pizzas. And service is very professional, just got to love this place!!!
I made a reservation by internet, when we arrived and told them, they suddenly realized that, they didn’t check for reservations so they didn’t have anything reserved and gave us whatever table they had. Big NEGATIVE . What would be the point to make a reservation then.
