Tomatina - Alameda
**We are open for Dine in, outdoor dining, Takeout, Curbside pickup and Delivery**
Tomatina is a classic Italian restaurant. This is a casual and relaxed Italian neighborhood restaurant. As a sharp contrast to fine Italian dining, this is a place to enjoy a glass of wine and unwind with unpretentious pasta dishes served in hearty portions. Tomatina is designed to appeal to as many people as possible, which is why they carry a vegetarian, gluten-free and children's menu in addition to their regular ones. Each month, Tomatina offers seasonal specials in addition to the normal menu. These offerings have included a chicken apple salad, roasted cauliflower pizza and even a proscuitto and fig piadine. Staples of the menu that guests can always count on are dishes such as the ravioli di formaggi, mini-hand tossed pizzas.
Great family place
Tomatina was a wonderful date night experience. On Wednesdays, they have house wine and draft/bottled beer for $3. Before this visit, I signed up for their rewards program and received an additional discount code for our purchase. The staff was very attentive, and everything that passed us from the kitchen looked delicious—cocktails included. I can’t wait to go back!
All I can say is Tomatina is doing the best possible given all the circumstances of Covid. Their Happy Hour on Mon/Wed is the best deal in Alameda. $3 beer/wine and $6 pizza and meat balls. Nick the Dude waiter is not only cool but a great waiter. Like every restaurant these days, being short staffed is the norm. But all their available staff are dedicated and working hard!! And the food is still superb!! Love their summer pasta special!!
Great customer service! Our server was very friendly and attentive.
Dined outdoors on the patio again. Happy Hour is the deal. Nick served us very nicely and enjoyed a warm autumn evening in Alameda.
Haven’t been here in months. Sat on the outdoor but nicely toasted patio with my pooch. Happy Hour is the best deal in Alameda, suds and fermented grape juice only $3 bucks!!!! Meatballs too. Couldn’t order pizza because of Type 2 but the Chicken Marsala was very delectable. Decent and motivated service is pretty challenging for all sit down joints these days so no sense commenting on that aspect…….
Great! Kids loved it. Patio was warm. Decent food. We’re happy.
We had the worst service at Tomatina. Ordered by scanning a QR code, as the table directs. We were two adults and two children. They brought the adult food out first, which I dismissed as strange, but assumed the kids food would follow shortly. Wrong.
We both got salads with modifications that were incorrect. My salad had cheese on it, which I can’t eat. We both had grilled salmon on our salads, which was cold. Not hot.
Then came out the kids pasta a short time later. The other child ordered kids pizza which took 50 minutes to come out. We didn’t get our drinks until about 45 minutes after we ordered when we asked for them. A server rarely came to check on us, and when we asked about the pizza, he told us it would be out in two minutes. And it never was.
One of the worst experiences I can remember ever having at a restaurant because their seemed to be little to no regard for the children.
Food was just OK, lacked taste, selection was small
Delicious lunch time fare. Quiet patio with lots of space between tables.
Yummy, fresh food. Great service, very responsive.
The service was lacking, we had get the attention of the wait staff when our table needed anything. We shared a seasonal salad that was very good. The pasta dishes were average. Due to Covid we tip well, we certainly over tipped in this situation.
Food was great! Menu felt limited. Service was slow and they forgot my kids food. The place was a little dark and had flies and gnats bugging me during my meal. Perhaps a little better lighting would help. I enjoyed my meal, but not sure if I would want to dine there again.
Good eats. Next best thing to Pasta Pomodoro RIP.
All I know is Christina was absolutely superwoman all by herself upon the doors opening for lunch. Hats off to the back of the house for delicious Summer Pappardelle Pasta, Garden Pizza, Minestrone Soup and Caesar Salad. Tomatina is still Alameda’s best family restaurant!
Waited more than 50 minutes. When we did the pick up it took 10
Minutes at all. Pizza not well
Cooked. They have to
Ask twice which one was gluten free
What I ordered was delicious.
The food was very good, but the service was very unsatisfactory. Our server was obviously inexperienced. We were seated and waited 10 minutes before we were even given water. We were not told about the prixe fixe dinner items until we asked about it. The server couldn't answer a question about it. We waited almost an hour to get bread after asking the server and bus boy several times. Neither of them even came back to the table to let us know the status. We finally expressed our poor service to the server who apologized. The manager apologized, saying that the servers were new and comped us for our wine and gave us 15% off. However, it didn't make up for our disappointing experience at this restaurant. Despite the good food, we won't be back for a long time.
Food was delicious and servers were great, but service was slow as it definitely looked like they are short-staffed. We had an early dinner (5 pm) and our server was attentive, but it got busy. I noticed that he was also the one making the cocktails.
There is an option to order by phone. We ordered our second drinks this way because we couldn’t get anyone’s attention— but we were also sitting outdoors. Phone ordering seems to be faster.
I still recommend this restaurant because the cocktails and food were great. Definitely check out the seasonal menu. Just be aware that they might still be short-staffed (as many restaurants and bars seem to be post pandemic) so you might have to wait. But this is definitely a great place to eat and chill with a friend or friends.
Staff was very friendly, food was fab, we were able to have a conversation without yelling to hear each other. Golden Beet Salad was amazing! and of course the Garlic rolls were amazing as always.
Good for family dining.
Made a reservation for 8 of us on what should be a chill time of day, must have been very understaffed. Our drinks took over 30min to come out. Waitstaff was very apologetic but still... Food was good, just a small pizza to share. Dissappointing service is all.
The servers were very nice, but too busy. Food was good.
Never disappoints, and it is our go-to place for family dining in Alameda. Great menu. Efficient, friendly service. Great value. Our vegetarian granddaughter is home from college; and it was a nostalgic treat to bring her, since we have enjoyed dining here with her for 17 years.
Great food - great value - great service!! What else can you say. Our family goes any time we have a get together.
We made a reservation and requested a high chair. Everything was waiting for us when we arrived, even the crayons and coloring menu for the little one! Wonderful experience for our family.
We love Tomatina!!
We go all the time and the food was, as usual, fresh and excellent. I just wish you didn't take the Lasagne off the menu! That was my favorite dish over the last year.
Plus I'm not sure why you don't have an item like lasagne on an Italian menu. Please consider putting it back on, all four of us love it!
Overall, we love Tomatina for the good price for well prepared food!
Celebrated my birthday lunch here Friday afternoon before Xmas....bunch of my gal pals started drinking wine early and were having a blast by the time 2pm came around. Janette, our server, performed in an awesome manner like a true professional handling a large party with ease and the pizzas here from the wood oven are the best in town!
Will not be returning here after poor service and mediocre food.
Service was too slow. Had to ask for serving utensils as the salads were large enough to share, party of 8. Seemed like having to ask for things instead of foresight and being provided without asking.
Nice waitress and good food.
The salmon dinner was bland, and the chicken parmigiana was also bland. I used to love coming to this restaurant, but I may consider a different one next time.
Enjoyed the fall menu. However Butternut squash ravioli pictured as having cranberries had none and the brown butter was too brown.
Very friendly waitstaff. Never returned to refill our water.
Having the tasting menu for the staff right near the entry where customers wait was convenient for the staff to grab a bite as they passed but not so appetizing seeing uneaten food remaining on a table. Made it look as though the bus staff not doing their job.
Hostess was rude. Service was friendly but bad. Food was Ok.
Happy Hour drink and appetizers are the best deal in town. Still good service and food quality is consistently high. But expect prices to rise where even pizza will become unaffordable to the masses......LOL!!
Great service by Alia and Dominique!! Happy Hour is the best time for this family-friendly Pizza joint in Alameda. And the other stuff is not bad!!!
I have been here many times and order the same thing - the Caprese piadini and a glass of wine. I love the crispy tortilla and fresh lettuce, tasty sun dried tomato’s and fresh mozzarella cheese with pesto sauce. This is what I come for. Unfortunately the last two times have been s miss. The tortilla was too soft - not crispy enough and the lettuce was obviously wilted - flabby and showing brown marks on the leaves. The slices of mozzarella were too thick. They messed it up! I will give them one more shot at making it right . I would have sent it back but they were busy . it took a while to get the order and I was starving so I ended up eating it. This was not an enjoyable meal.
Nice family joint for outstanding pizza and pasta. Service is pretty solid no matter how busy. Best value in Alameda!
The cheese pizza tasted like card board and the salad was wilted and salty. I was very disappointed. It cost $130!
