Service was very slow and the place seemed understaffed - it took over 15 minutes to get our drinks after ordering them and the food was bland.
I wish I could give this place a better rating however, I have never been treated so disrespected in my life. My friends and I had a reservation and the hostess was mad that we had only made it 20 minutes before and was refusing to seat us. So I had to request to speak to the manager—and she was absolutely fabulous and quite kind and helpful. But the hostess kept being extremely rude. And I used to be a hostess at a much nicer restaurant and if I had acted like that I would have been fired, it is customer service and granted I get you don’t always get customers you like or want to serve (I often had to be kind to people who I wish I didn’t have to serve) but she was rude over and over again and when were seated she said “You win this round” IM SORRY WHAT it was just so beyond awful. And rude and to each spend almost 100 dollars on food and drinks to be treated that way is obscene. Granted, I do want to say that the manager was very kind and helpful and our server was absolutely lovely. It’s a pity that the hostess treated us so horrifically—even when we had a reservation and put a damper on an otherwise good meal.
Saw 3 couples seated adjacent to us who arrived after we did, were served and on their way before we received our entrees. Server never came around to tell us what the delay was. When she was walking by, we waved her down and asked, she said there was a delay and rushed away. The gentleman who was bussing our table was the one who checked twice on our meal. Was such a disappointment, as the dinner was supposed to be a special occasion for my date and I.
Waited over an hour to receive our food... we did not receive our first course or our third course. We ended up just leaving before the rest of the food came out. We were there for over an hour and a half and were on time for our reservation for a pre-fixed menu. How do you screw that up? I was excited to try this restaurant as I am new to dtla but after that experience I will never be dining there again. Save your money and go elsewhere.
The price you pay is for the beautiful setting, top notch service, and amazing food. If you want someone to enjoy limited but amazingly perfected meals; this is the place.
Menu was horrible and looked like it was 20 years old, walked in and then walked out. Menu had 4 different cusines... outdated decor and just miserable
Bar was excellent, signature cocktails tasted great and happy hour meal with $1 oysters on Wednesday is worth a trip. Outdoor terrace is also great for brunch. A bit of undiscovered pleasure that makes you feel like being in Manhattan for a moment.
We were just very disappointed in the change in the menu. There was no indication that their menu has changed due to change in ownership. We specifically chose this place to try some Hungarian dishes but we were just greeted with seafood/american dishes.
Our waiter was kind, funny, and attentive. He made our entire experience a great one. I was bummed that you guys no longer had the chimichanga drink on menu, but the bartender handled and made the drink for me! I love that drink. Thanks for a great night celebrating my fiancé’s birthday!
I was expecting much more from this place. We went for a friends birthday. Typically in other restaurants they bring out a small birthday cake with a candle to celebrate, nope not here. The ambience wasn’t the greatest. Our waitress wasn’t an expert on their menu, honestly I wouldn’t go there again.
The menu online is not the menu at the restaurant. The location has been purchased and apparently they decided that the website was the last thing on the list to change. The new menu lacks every dish I was interested in trying and the prices are 20% - 30% higher. Quite a disappointment. We walked out and went elsewhere.
The menu was very limited overall. I felt like I had to pick something just because I would have felt bad walking out. More pizza options than anything else on the menu. The restaurant and bar are gorgeous, and the bar tender was friendly.
The food portion is surprisingly small but the ambience is great!
I toook my friends to dinner thinking that they would like it. It was Very disappointing. The food was pretty mediocre.
This is my 4th time at TG and I got to say I was very disappointment at the food, it is my understating that the restaurant is going through a management transition and the menu has changed. We ordered two Manhattan Cuts and the meat was hard, not well seasoned, not tender; we also ordered the Salmon..overcooked to our palate. The lamb meatball pasta dish is no longer available however they have a smaller version of the meatballs as appetizers but were a bit cold. We also ordered a couple of drinks from the bar (mojitos) not impressed at all.
Food, Service, Ambiance. You need 2 out of the 3 to stay in business. TOMGEORGE used to have amazing food and ambiance. The service was a bit slow, but probably because they were so busy! Over the last few months its gone down hill.
I understand business. The menu used to be too large, and its been tightened up, but the food was subpar, the service was subpar, and TOMGEORGE is left with only its Ambiance.
Tip for the bartender - A manhattan uses rye, not scotch and rosso vermouth, not dry. you got the cherry right, the rest of the ingredients were on the shelf, you just picked the wrong bottles.
This by far was a horrible experience overall. The waiter was rude and was yelling at the other staff. He couldn’t get his ego in check and was just rude. This was all after waiting for 50 minutes even though we had a reservation. Half the food wasn’t available that was on the menu. We left and went across the street. The vibe was so much better. Apparently the restaurant is going through an ownership change and that’s all that the manager did when we explained the behavior.
The waiter said the restaurant was changing owners. Menu was more limited than what is shown on line. Definitely had the going out of business feel and very disappointing. They added 20% gratuity to a party of six. Food was just ok to poor.
Food was served warm (not hot). Nothing memorable about any of the three dishes we ordered. With so many other choices downtown, no reason to return.
The short ribs special was great! Definitely recommend that.
Great place to get together with friends, drinks and dinner. The wine selection too!
The food has kind of went down here, did they start getting cheaper more generic food to save costs, not sure if ownership has changed or not. The service is great though, at least they are not snooty hipsters like Fundamentals. This is more after work thing, just feel like something is lacking though, used to love it but now I do not really want to go here anymore. Maybe re-visit the menus you had last year...
Lovely room great ambiance. Food and service were impeccable. Just a great evening out before the theater
I was very disappointing. I regretted not making a reservation somewhere else!
My food arrived incomplete, wrong, took forever and waiter disappear for long periods. I had to ask other waiters to get me the food. and it was just a salad!
Unassuming place from the outside but once you get inside it has a great interior. Spacious and trendy. Great vibe. We started with some really good appetizers then dinner. The Hungarian Pizza's were killer...our favorite. I had the pasta with a lamb ragout which was really good. Our service was the bomb as well. Took great care of us. Definitely a place to visit again.
Beautiful restaurant, but the food was a bit sub-par (under seasoned and a little lackluster). Might be just a good place to stop for drinks.
They didnt get the drinks out fast and the drinks were terrible
Better than expectations. Burrata Pizza and Penne Vodca was pretty good. Had a dinner and a take out for pizza.
Went to TOMGEORGE for the first time with a couple of friends who are visiting from Brazil. We were in the mood for Moderate Casual - not too fancy, not too pricey. TOMGEORGE was pretty much spot on for what we were looking for. The ambience has a good vibe, with lighting and decor that reflects the energy of a good place to start a night out in DTLA. We kept it to pasta with each of the three of us ordering something different. The options were accessible, and the flavors good, and the pasta, to my mouth, cooked just about ideally, but on the slightly soft side. But, being half-sicilian, I tend to like my pasta a bit more al dente. This is certainly NOT a complaint, rather a reflection of knowing the audience. The wine options were good, and we were able to pick a Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay which was a lovely local option for visitors to California to get to experience.
I will definitely be back.
I’ve been to Tom George three times. On previous occasions I thought it was OK – and I liked the fact that it was easy to get a table. This time, however, we had a negative experience. We ordered The prosciutto pizza and asked to substitute mozzarella for goat cheese. They said they would do it but would charge us three dollars more. We weren’t thrilled about that but we agreed and we appreciated that they checked with us before charging us more. We also have the fennel salad which was overwhelmed by an old-school balsamic reduction. In addition, we ordered two glasses of wine. When the bill came we noticed there was a discrepancy between the amount charged for the wine and the price listed on the menu. When we pointed it out to the waitress, she indicated that she was aware of the discrepancy and had already brought it to the attention of the manager. The manager came over and adjusted the bill – but it left a bad taste in our mouth that had we been less vigilant, we would’ve been overcharged. It’s not cool for the menu not to reflect the true price of items unless one is specifically informed ahead of time. We won’t be back.
The ambiance is cool, but the food was underwhelming.
they were not open even thru they confirmed reservation
Food was mostly good (other than an excessively salty cauliflower/eggplant appetizer), but appetizer/salad/entree were all brought out too quickly and in the wrong order. We were also disappointed to see a charge for soft drink refills, which was not disclosed.
I love the relaxed fee opf this place. I will return and invite friends to this place and try more dishes. Service was friendly.
Interior decor and ambiance are cool and the menu sounded good. Overall the food was good, however, two of us ordered the 3 pigs sandwich, which the waiter recommended, and it was fine, but not great. I would not order it again or recommend it to anyone. It was missing cheese and something unctuous like an aioli to bring the whole thing together. The brussels sprouts and calamari were good.
We walked in right as they closed the kitchen and they still provided outstanding service to us!!! Thank you so much to the restaurant for not turning us away made my day!
Terrible service. Never got acknowledged while in the bar waiting for our reservation to be ready. And then never was acknowledged when we got seated to our table. After waiting for some time to order drinks and good we decided to leave. Don’t go, not worth it.
Great location and beautiful facility. Thought the menu was a bit limiting, went here because they have a location in Budapest Hungary and we had a great experience there. Unfortunately, the location in Los Angeles did not live up to our expectations.
Great place and service... the menu was very different that what was advertised. I would not consider it an Italian restaurant. Very poor menu selections.
