The place was extremely noisy. food was ok but not something to come back to. Service was mediocre.
Lobster in paella was cod and so tough I literally couldn’t chew it. Waiters friendly.
Food excellent; service superb! What more can you ask for?
TOLOACHE is the best Mexican restaurant ever. We live near Boston and Toloache is always
A Must whenever we come to NY. The food is delicious whether you want spicy or not, the staff is always warm and welcoming and the GUAC is to die for.
We have been there quite a few times. This time we were disappointed. So noisy. We just had taco and quasadia. Next time we’ll go for the entrees.
Best Red Sangria in town. Service a food very good.
Excellent! One of our favorites.
We don’t normally try Mexican places while on holiday, since we worry they won’t taste authentic- not a concern here! Toloache offers amazing Mexican food - to be specific, the Guacamole, the carne asada, and OMG the creamy side rice- not to mention the Churros, the Flan, so pretty much everything we tried was on the great side. The drinks were outstanding, and the service very courteous and friendly- I took points off value, just because the 14 dollar tacos seemed overpriced, but NY in general is that way, so no surprises there - full marks on everything else
food is well prepared and very good. I took my 76 yrs old friend there for dinner and on the reservation site I mentioned the it was my friend’s birthday...but no attention was paid ...!
So do not go there for special occasion..also, stay away on friday night, very crowded and loud...they said sunday night is best...I will return, but not on my birthday nor friday !
Party of 3 was sorely disappointed with this not inexpensive restaurant. We had been at our table for 2 hours when an employee came to our table and aggressively stated we had "been at the table since 6 (reservation was for 7:15) and they needed to turn the table". There are so many ways of politely letting dinners know it was a busy night (Restaurant Management 101), this was not one. When we responded that we had not been there since 6 and, while capable of understanding a polite inquiry as to our timing, did not feel his behavior was respectful in any way, he became more aggressive.
There are so many good restaurants in NYC. Find some place else.
Toloache is a mainstay in our neighborhood rotation of restaurants; the food is great, they have an interesting list of margaritas and high-end tequilas, and the staff members are friendly and attentive.
The chef mixes the usual staple of soft tacos (all of which are delicious) with some enticing traditional Mexican dishes and fusion offerings, so it is easy to eat here time and time again and not get bored with the menu.
It can be difficult to get a table on a Friday or Saturday night, but early in the week generally is ok. I recommend it highly for a couple or a group; fun place that should be around for quite some time to come.
Loved the food . The service was good except it was hard to get him to tell us what are the most popular dishes or recommendations since it was our first time. The only thing I didn’t like was the avocado fries. They were paired with ketchup not very good at all needed salads or something more Mexican. But the spicy lobster taco and the truffle quesadilla amazing plus the shrimp main course. We loved it!!
Tried the shrimp tacos (Camaron) for the first time, and I think I have a new favorite! It was so yummy!!
The rest of the food was also really really good as always
Everything was delish, but noisy
Too loud but good food.
Very good guacamole and chips . Tacos are your choice.
Food was excellent. The service was good. They have a guacamole bar which was extremely good. I had the vegetarian enchiladas, and they have an entire separate menu for vegetarians. The value was OK (dinner for 2 without drinks including tip was around $100, with one appetizer). Overall a nice place to dine.
Was very nice to get back to my favorite spot
There for brunch on Sunday, which had the same excellent Mexican menu, with some more traditional brunch items added. Much quieter and less crowded than for evening meals we've had there in the past.
Although the food was very good and the service prompt and courteous, the noise level of the back room was nearly deafening. My husband and I had to give up on any real conversation. Yes, it was a Saturday night and the place was full, but please - add some fabric to the walls or panels to the ceiling. All it took was one loud table to cause every one there to raise their voices, and the end result practically prohibited any enjoyment of an otherwise very nice meal. I will think twice about making reservations there again.
Carne Asada was cooked perfectly but the short rib tacos were insanely tough to eat
Supposed to be a great place near the Met. But two vegetarian entrees were too spicy and essentially inedible. The guacamole, however, was terrific.
Great guacamole !!
AMAZING Brussels sprouts
Too noisy. I couldn’t hear my dinner guest talk.
Best Mexican food I’ve had in NYC in a very long time. The ambiance is great and there is a good vibe throughout. I’ll be a regular!
Always a tasty experience, from authentic guacamole to veggie-crunchy fish tacos- a joy! But, a struggle to get seated in the front dining room, what does it take???
Food was delicious but i felt overpriced. They also brought ceviche (which was ordered as a main course) out to the table 15 minutes before all the other warm food. not expectable!
Everything was great the wait staff was attentive the food was delicious. The only negative was the noise level We will definitely be going back Would highly recommend
My husband is tremendously picky... and was happy with his order!!! We had a great meal, the service was warm and friendly. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was really comfortable, great mix of people — we will go back!
Great food as always. Margarita was mediocre and quite expensive at $18 for a glass mostly full of ice
The food was authentic and flavorful.
very good, out of the ordinary food based on unique recipes. interesting tequila and mezcal-based cocktails. very attentive service. a little pricey but good value because the food is way, way better than average. definitely recommended for a new UES dining experience.
My personal upper east side favorite - when in NY I always pop by with friends for great margaritas and authentic and always delicious Mexican fare. Great vibe and lots of locals. Summer dining in the garden is lovely. Often see Geraldo Rivera and other media celebs. Always a yum and fun time!
Great guacamole and margaritas
Terrific selection of tacos
Had the Cod for the 3rd time. It’s really a fabulous dish. Perfectly cooked every time. The skirt steak is amazing and flavorful. Love the Brussel sprouts as a side.
Oh ....and the choice of tequila awesome!
Service was terrible - waiter was inattentive and in addition just plain rude. the table for 5 was next to the service station and thruway...not ideal. Food was not that great and lacked flavor and finesse. Very disappointing as previous experiences had been positive.
Excellent. Cannot wait to return. The food is authentic, creative and good value for NYC restaurants.
Food great, wish it was a bit more quiet! I enjoyed it anyway, though
