Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina's contemporary Mexican bistro located in the Upper East Side. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. I bought a new friend to Toloache for dinner, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. Mexican food gets a bad rap, but Toloache provides the freshest ingredients and very creative Mexican food. It is always on my list of favorite restaurants.

Always Delicious food. There is a special Mexican Independence Day menu this weekend, in addition to the regular menu. We ordered the Chile en Nogada and it was Fabulous! Perfect! Really authentic. A must have! Plus excellent guacamole and tacos.

Was in the back part of the restaurant on a Wednesday night, extremely loud, all tables full but the noise does not drown out well, the noise was unbearable and couldn’t wait to scarf food down and get out. Food was really salty and the water couldn’t keep coming fast enough to hydrate from the salt. Spent $140 with tip on a carne asada, two tacos and two drinks.

The food was fine, honestly, the service was pretty awful. After waiting about 10 minutes even speak to my wait person, it took another 15 mins to get the drink I ordered. It took around 45+ mins for the food to arrive. We had ordered more drinks in the interim, which never appeared until we reminded the waitress (when she finally blessed us with our dinner). It wasn't busy at all, so there was no obvious reason for such poor service. I have always liked Toloache in the past, but last night was a pretty miserable experience from beginning to end

BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN NYC. PORTIONS ARE PERFECT, AND WE HAVE EATEN THERE SINCE THEY OPENED ON EAST SIDE - NEVER HAD A BAD MEAL OR A SURLY WAITER. IF MUSIC OR A/C SEEMS TOO MUCH, THEY TAKE CARE OF IT. TV ONLY IN BAR SO DOES NOT BOTHER THE OTHER PART OF THE RESTAURANT. LOVELY PATIO AND CUTE OUR DOOR DINING SHED. HAVE NEVER FOUND A RESTAURANT THAT IS SO CONSISTENT - EVEN THE FOOD DELIVERY ARRIVES IN PERFECT CONDITION, BUT WE PREFER TO EAT IN THE RESTAURANT AS IT HAS SUCH A GREAT ATMOSPHERE. POZOLE ON THE WEEKEND IS SPECTACULAR. DRINKS ARE STRONG.

Had another great experience at Toloache on 82nd St. The meal was outstanding. I highly recommend the Margarita de la Calle. The service is always good, and the atmosphere is very nice.

We had reservations for 3. I believe one or two people there. We weren’t rushed and left a 6. Able to catch up after like a year. The guacamole was so smooth, I don’t like lumpy. Will definitely go back.

I like this location so much better than the one near the theater district. Service is much better here, not snobby and pretentious, and the food is delicious. I was just there and cannot wait to go back!

Excellent creative food. I had mahi-mahi and wife had seafood and beef tacos. Both well-prepared, fresh, and delicious. Margaritas are excellent. Guacamole great. Had table in back so private and not too loud so conversation easy.

Excellent meal as always. One slight quibble: I wish the menu had indicated that the birria taco would be crispy and deep fried. All of the other tacos that I’ve had at this restaurant have been soft which I much prefer. But as I said this is a minor quibble.
