I ate at Toloache with some friends to celebrate my 40th birthday and had a fantastic time. The food was outstanding - try the tuna belly taquito ceviche, the huitlacoche and nopalitos tacos, and the guacamole frutas. The service was excellent as well.
The waitress was really good and so were the foods and drinks. However, the hostess was not very friendly. I arrived on time and took my seat. My friend was 10 minutes behind and the hostess came up to me asking how long my friend would be because they had another reservation in an hour. I don't understand why would only allot an hour for dinner. I should be able to enjoy my dinner for as long as I would like. That aside, everything else was good.
Nice atmosphere and good food! Service was very good too!
The food at Tolache is always very, very good. The service was slow and not very attentive. The Soho location doesn't have the best ambience but its fine for a casual get together.
All good...execpt tip included for 2 people.
Overall, a generally disappointing evening . We were starting to see the signs of the same thing, i.e. trouble, at the 50th Street Toloache before deciding to try the sister establishment in the West Village. When the drinks and the appetizers are the best part of the meal, you know that spells trouble. And the cost? Through the roof.....and if only it were worth half of what we paid. 4 people, one round of drinks, one appetizer, and four entrees (no salads, no desserts) should not come to $55 per person. That borders on the ridiculous. The main courses were pedestrian: meat was tough and chewy for a top-of-the-line steak, quesadilla and taco portions were small. And diner beware: If you make the mistake of saying "Yes, please" to the waiter's invitation ,"Want more chips or tortillas?", so you have something to put the fundido or guacamole on, count on an extra unannounced charge appearing on your bill .....because that's just the kind of place, Toloache is: penny wise, pound foolish. Treat people right, give them great food and they come back. Treat them like this and they never will.
My wife and I had dinner before a comedy show and the it was terrific! We had been on e before. The food was fabulous, the service was very friendly and attentive, it’s a bit pricey but you get what you pay for it and everything was great!
Great date night place. The food was amazing, as were the margaritas. It's a bit pricey, but the flavors deliver.
The worst service of any restaurant I have experienced anywhere in 10 years!!!
This was my first time at this location and the food was really excellent. I have been to another location before that is also quite good but for some reason it was particularly good this night. I had the pork carnitas which were amazing. Guac was excellent. The queso with chorizo was also very tasty with just the right amount of heat. Our waitress was very good. I did send back my cocktail as it was not to my liking and she was gracious and did not make me feel bad. My husband had the shrimp tacos which he devoured. We will definitely come back.
Overall it was a pleasant dining experience. The cocktails were very good. Nice to have a vegetarian menu. A bit pricey but nice portions and well made food. I would return.
A very good choice - better than many of mid priced Mexican restaurants in Manhattan.
We enjoyed every course.
Had dinner with a friend, all the food and drinks were great. We saw at least 3 birthday parties during our meal, so this place seems like a good spot for larger gatherings. The tables are sort of crammed together upstairs and I was bumped by wait staff at least 5 times (on each side of my chair) so don't go here if you can't handle being close to everyone! They were very busy on a Saturday night and the service was a little spotty (we had our guacamole to eat for awhile before anyone took our meal order, had to ask for our check a few times, etc.). Overall I'd go back, good location and great meal.
The service was good, the wine was good and the food was good. I liked the one in the theater district better for whatever reason. I also like Tacuba (by the same chef) better.
Won’t be coming back here. After we paid, our waitress came to our table asking if everything was ok. We said yes. She said “well you’re supposed to tip 18-20%, and since I was given such a horrible tip I want to know if I did something wrong.” That takes some nerve, especially when the tip was 15%. Service wasn’t outstanding, so I found nothing wrong with this. Either way, waitress was extremely rude and I will not be coming back.
We had our firm’s holiday dinner at Toloache Thompson and it was unbelievable! Great drinks and fresh, awesome dinner options. Definitely recommend this place!
The food is fun and innovative - not to mention delicious.
Small and not inviting. The service was fair and the hostess was rude. Too bad. I love the midtown location.
Food and service were excellent. My only quibble - the cold wind slips into the restaurant and makes dining in winter a chilly experience.
We decided to go to Toloache Thompson St after the 82nd street location was booked. I am 8 1/2 months pregnant, and they insisted on seating us upstairs. After trekking up the steep staircase, they wanted to seat us at a table at the very top of the stairs, in the way of the waiters and patrons coming up and down. We refused the table, so they sat us at another table. About 5 minutes after we started eating our appetizers, a manager/host came over and said he needed the table for a large party and we had to move to a different table in the back of the restaurant. We were not given an option about moving, nor were we compensated in any way for the inconvenience. The manager/host did not even say thank you, despite me having to push through a rowdy crowd of people to get to the table. It was so loud my husband and I could not even have a conversation. We will not be visiting this location again -- horrible experience.
This is a super noisy party spot
We had a great time and enjoyed both dinner and the service. Will definitely be back soon!
The black cod was amazing melt in your mouth. The portions could have been bigger though and I was surprised the tip had been added to the bill and we were only a party of 3. This is a real turnoff for me. I don't remember seeing anything indicating tips being added automatically. Not sure if I'd be back.
Went before show at the Skirball Center. My friend and I each had one order of tacos and then another order of tacos and a quesadilla. Great flavors and a lot of food. Service couldn't have been better. We were there at 5 pm so not noisy. I've been to the Toloache in the theatre district and will definitely go again.
We love the food and always have a great dining experience.
Easy bottomless brunch spot. Our waiter was very kind and the service was good. However, the ambience and quality of menu choices and the food itself was lacking.
Everything was perfect until the lead host or manager, whoever she was, asked us to leave or go to the bar so that they could turn the table for another reservation. This is terribly tacky and not a way to treat your paying customers. We had a reservation, had drinks, etc., so they definitely got their money’s worth. From the time we sat and left, was under or at 90 minutes. Would never go back to this location.
It was great! Good food and cosy! Perfect Halloweenplace!
I'm from Los Angeles, I celebrated my birthday here and you guys did not disappoint. The food was great and the margarita that had habiscus and blueberries was fantastic!
I highly recommend this place.
Toloache is a charming restaurant with delicious cuisine. I'm always happy to eat there.
This place is always a great spot. Perfect for any night of the week to enjoy a delicious meal. Nothing overly fancy so it is very comfortable.
Good mexican food (for New York) in the heart of Greenwich Village on Thompson Street. They have some unusual items, like grasshopper (as in the insect) tacos. The style is Veracruz - a little more tomato saucy than northern Mexico. They also have a good selection of seafood and vegetarian dishes. I'd go again.
Loved this spot!
Best Mexican food ever. Each dish was a wonderful new taste.
Great food and cocktails- best Queso ever!
Toloache is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The staff is always very friendly, always have an amazing service and the food is excellent!!
There is a lot of up selling going on here. It's my belief that the food should speak for itself and not require the wait staff to continually try to get you buy more ora more expensive version of what you ordered. I had their 'special' Blanco Oro margarita ($15), tasted like any other margarita, nothing special but the price.
Really good dining experience. Food was good, staff were excellent, all in all would recommend.
My wife and I have been to this restaurant four times in the last twelve months... we basically visit the restaurant every time we are in New York City. We truly enjoyed our first visit back in 2016, but since then both the service and the food have disappointed us. Our last visit was a poor experience. The waitress basically had no listening ability and the food was the worst of our four visits. Don't get me wrong... the food is fine, simply nowhere near the level it once used to be. Message to the owners: let this be a warning that proper attention is required at your Thompson St restaurant.
