Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. We looking forward to seeing you soon.

Toloache-Midtown Ratings and Reviews
It was so packed with people that there was no place to put any personal items. Tables were very close, too, but luckily the staff is talented at gliding between chairs and handling all groups. The food was high-end and came out very quickly. If it weren't so loud in this place, I would definitely go back again, so if yelling across a table doesn't bother you, I highly recommend the food and service!
This is my favorite NY restaurant hands down!!! It's always packed (ususally with the theather crowd) and you have to reserve in advance to get in but ...the food and service is amazing! And they margaritas and wine list are great too. They never ever have an "off" night. 5 stars!!
Diverse selection of food, secret vegetarian menu, and an AMAZING list of margaritas! Service was very attentive and social and seats were not crowded, as some reviews suggested. We sat downstairs and had a great time but I saw several regulars ask to be switched to upstairs.
great mexican restaurant! service was great, and the food was too, although as other diners have written, the portions were very small. The guacamole was excellent, and at my table we had the paella, the shrimp quesadilla, and the enchiladas. We ordered side order of rice and black beans - 2 - and 1 would have been plenty - that is the one thing that was plentiful. Really good 'skinny' margarita.
Close to a "5" but a few points off for portion sizes (a tad small) and noise level (we were seated next to the kitchen and guacamole preparation area). We made an early pre-theatre reservation and had plenty of time to savor a bottle of wine, our meal, coffee and dessert. Food is excellent and nicely presented; really appreciate that there are numerous vegetarian options. Highly recommend the Spicy Guacamole; (could have made a meal of that alone) and the dessert sampler. Nice, reasonably priced wine list. Great to find a quality, interesting Mexican choice in the theatre district; location can't be beat. Great waiter; treated us to post-coffee tequila that was unique and delicious. Will definitely return and highly recommend!
Quesadilla w/Truffle, Corn w/Cotija, Grilled Tilapia Tacos are just a few of our favorites that we order each time we go to Toloache during our annual visit to NYC. This is a must-dine stop during each of our visits to NYC. Though it's located in the theater district, Toloache is a delicious destination whether or not you are going to the theater. ...and keep the margaritas and guacamole coming! Can't wait to go back!!!
We arrived early, IT was packed and we decided not to wait for our table and sat at the bar instead. The vibe was fun, seating is tight.
Mango Mojito – delicious, Sangria- Fresh fruit was added to red wine and fruit juice. We shared Apps and the Paella for dinner.Chips with fresh guacamole-very good
JM Hamachi -Yellowtail, meyer lemon, cucumber, huichol salsa, crispy avocado – fantastic
De Lechon -Suckling pig carnitas, cactus salad, salsa verde - (2) small taco shells stuffed with the perfect combination of crunchy pork skin and moist pork meat. Next time I will get the dinner portion it was so amazing.
Tumbada paella- epazote-scented rice, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, tilapia, clams, octopus. Very fresh and the rice favorful. So Good!
We went there before a 7p show and had a 530p reservation. My party got there before me and they told them that they only had an hour. When I talked to the hostess she assured me that that was not true and there was no rush. However the whole meal I felt very rushed and the wait staff seemed to be hovering around us the whole time. Not a place I would return before a show.
Enjoyed experience at Toloache. The guacamole was perfection and the small plates were great for sharing and as a main course per-theater.Service was very good, informative. Chef's specialty quesadilla was delicious. Excellent seasoning on carne asada attractive plating. Would definitely return
A great find in the vicinity of the Theater District. Our table was in a great location and the restaurant was buzzing for a Tuesday evening. Service was speedy and the waiter was very friendly although a little pushy with some of the recommendations which were often the most expensive on the menu. Overall, one of the better Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood.
If you like Mexican, you will love this place. I've been here about 8 times, usually with a small group, and no one has ever been disappointed. They have really nice specialty margaritas, my favorite is one made with jalapenos and cucumber with a spicy chili salt rimming the glass. It's all good, but the guacamole sampler (3 different kinds) is a must (obviously if you like guac,) also the fish tacos and the carne asado are off the hook. The staff is also really considerate about getting you through your meal on time if you are going to see a show, but they won't hurry you if you don't.
Went on Saturday night with 2 friends. Place was packed and lively. No problem getting seated right away. In terms of getting our orders taken, and drinks served, right away, it was fast and efficient. The food came so quickly, we have hardly taken a bite from our appetizers. Our waiter seemed intent to take our plates away from us before we could even eat. So, I would say that the only downside to the meal was that we were absolutely rushed through our dinner. I know that they were trying to turn over tables, but 75 minutes from drinks through dessert felt pressured. Other than that - a wonderful experience.
