Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. We looking forward to seeing you soon.

Upscale mexican is lively atmosphere. Enjoyed spicy guacamole and seafood paella and would definitely return. Good find!

Too tight a table. No privacy at all. Also so dark—couldn’t read menu without using light on our phones—and we weren’t the only ones. And giant tv cheapened the ambiance. Food was tasty but small portions. Did not like the ceviche at all. Margarita and guacamole were excellent, tho. Service was timely but no personality or interest in creating anything but a mediocre experience. Wouldn’t go back.

Great service- unobtrusive- interesting take on Mexican food- all dishes tasty and beautifully plated. Warm setting, nice decor. Tequila list looked fabulous.

The food was expensive for small portions and was not advertised as such

Wonderful food and service. Delicious flavors of authentic cuisine. Enjoyed every moment before a broadway show.

My husband and I had dinner at Toloache before a show on a Friday night. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was perfect, and the food was outstanding. We enjoyed the lively atmosphere, but diners are seated pretty closely, so if you're looking for quiet or privacy this isn't the place. We'll go back to Toloache on future trips to NYC.

Went before theater and it was great. We needed to get out quickly and they were attentive to our needs. Food was terrific too.

Overcooked sea bass, supposedly special margarita tasted like nothing and I mean no sour, no tequila, no taste whatsoever

Food so good. Had restaurant week lunch special. The lobster soup was amazing and the skirt steak was perfectly cooked. Bravo!

Food is mediocre. Guacamole portion is small. The spicy guacamole was mild.

Best damn margarita I’ve ever had. Tacos and ahi tuna were number 1.

Came for restaurant week - generous portions of amazing food. We also ordered off the regular menu, which had many options. Everything was delicious!

Staff is amazing. We come here every time we are in town, which is only once or twice a year, and they always remember us and treat us special. Food is so good. Trio of guacamole is a must, as is the tortilla soup. We were there for restaurant week this time and did the special menu. It did not disappoint. Like all NYC restaurants it is packed tight and noisy, but it is a festive atmosphere and never too overwhelming. Definitely try this place if you like Mexican food.

great place for a pre-theater meal. very loud and cramped quarters. hostess staff was not very welcoming but the wait staff was great. food was excellent and drinks perfect. tacos were only two small ones on a plate for $15 and the guacamole portion was very small for the money. otherwise, a great meal and they got us out quickly.

Loved the hacienda decor and the food was great. We had shrimp tacos that were crisp and flavorful, the bass and skirt steak. Service was great, not at all rushed. We were there for pre theater and during restaurant week--I would absolutely go back. Only issue was it was freezing downstairs. The weather was quite cold out and the door system they have didn't cut it. Ask for upstairs or go in warmer times!

The place is nice and cozy and has a live vibe. Unfortunately it being my first time here our waiter was awful. We were sitting for at least 20 mins before he finally came over. When we asked how is it the table next to us got appetizers and they arrived after us he said "you looked so involved in conversation" - which is odd for a restaurant! Yes, we're engrossed in conversation and waiting to be served. He was very slow and wasn't very pleasant. That in & of itself will make me think twice before I go back or recommend anyone. Service plays a huge part in your restaurant experience!

Friendly host. Too warm upstairs. Gave us a table by the rail which was much appreciated, as other seats too crowded.

We have frequented Toloache numerous times pre-theater in the past 1.5 years. It's an absolute standard for my friends and I....margarita loving, guac craving crew. Must haves with every visit the fruit guacomole with warm chips. They could just give me a spoon and leave me for the evening! Fresh made to every order. I like mine without onions and this is a godsend. Margaritas are totally on point and the house version at $13 is fair and actually has adequate amounts of tequila to make it worthwhile. Last visit during theatre week yielded a yummy sea bass (?) three course dinner including their delicious flan and lobster soup. Everything flavorful and served at the proper temperature....I like my hot food hot. (and that's not the service you get at all ny restaurants!) Speaking of was FREEZING outside the night of our last visit and inside temp was PERFECT. not to hot...not too cold (a difficult task considering they have two levels of dining open to each other) Add to that Attentive service that was not overbearing or pushing you out the door but mindful of your curtain time. We will continue to patronize this place for some time to come! Makes it hard to try others when you know you'll get what you need/want here. :)
