Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. The food was very good as always, but the service was terrible last night. I had let the restaurant know we were celebrating my granddaughter‘s 10th birthday and our server never acknowledged it. She was hard to track down to get our drinks refilled. We left without even having dessert because we had spent so much time Just getting her attention. She never smiled did not have a good attitude overall. It was disappointing. We had celebrated a different birthday there about a year ago, and the experience was amazing. The manager in the server made a fuss. They were friendly we felt welcomed. This was the exact opposite.

Loud, food was just ok and very expensive. 3 people, 1 sparking water, 1 margarita, 1 salad, 3 orders of tacos and 1 guac, $148… pre tax.

As always, Toloache delivers! I always stop here when I’m in town, and bring friends if I can. This time, I was by myself but the experience is still special. The octopus ceviche was a standout! Highly recommended.

Had a fabulous dinner of yummy appetizers and salads. Suggest sharing to be able to try different dishes. Very fresh ingredients and vibrant tastes. Perfect pre theater fare!

Excellent food and extensive menu. Everything we ordered was delicious. In particular, we really enjoyed the Tuna Tiradito ceviche, the Ensalada de Jicama with shrimp, the Costilla & Tuetano tacos (beef short rib), and the Pollo Toloache with the sweet corn relish. We have been here in the past and will keep coming back.

We have been many times here. Its usually great. This time it was okay. We had the chicken breast dish. Was moist which was good. But not much flavor. And the salsa and corn strewn all over the plate added nothing. Server was very nice. Ambiance nice but noisy
