Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. We looking forward to seeing you soon.

Occasion was trip to New York with 7 year old grandson. Close to our hotel, weather was bad, and the food was reasonable and very good especially the Branzino which was a special I think that night. We would go back with our without grand children.

Girls day in NY for Escape to Margaritaville. This was the perfect pre-show meal and of course Margaritas. The Margaritas were very good and the food was terrific too. I will definitely return and tell friends about it.

Needed something close to the theater.
Service was excellent and the food was, too.
Great margaritas, guacamole and the entrees, too.
Had the braised short ribs and marrow tacos and the chicken tacos, both excellent as were the sides. We thoroughly enjoyed our Experience!

The food was decent but the service needs to be a lot better. Even though we had reservations, we had to wait for another 25minutes to be seated which defeats the purpose of having reservations. On top of that, the lady wasn’t telling us the truth and originally told us the table was available. Once we seated, the waitress was nice, but we told her we were there for a BD and we wanted to get a dessert, and she said sure, but we had to remind her a couple of times and then had to seak her out to make the request because she never brought us the dessert menu. On top of that, when it was time for her to leave, she just left without telling us that her shift was over and didn’t even ask if we needed anything. So, we had to wait another 20 minutes for the check. I have been here in the past and had such bad service

Worth the wait to sit down, this place is bustling, and with good reason, the food is probably the best Mexican in midtown. Unexpected flavor combinations, exquisite home made tortillas, and great courteous service. The ladies at the front desk are lovely, just give them time to find your table, this place is always really busy, be patient, it will be worth it.

A friend recommended we eat here. It did not disappoint. Margaritas were awesome! Three out of 4 entrees were great. I did not love the paella. The seafood was over cooked, and overall the dish was very dry. I will not order it the next time I visit.

We LOVED Toloache! It was intimate and the bartender and waitstaff were professional and very attentive, even though it was a busy Friday night. We arrived 15 minutes earlier than our reservation, but they were able to seat us very soon after we got there. The food was very authentic and delicious. I'll just add that our table in the beautifully decorated upstairs area reminded me of the scene in Love Actually when Colin Firth's character proposes to Aurelia:)

OK Mexican food - found it over-priced and the drinks/guac meh. Had to call 3x to update our booking because it was never properly updated either.

I like Rosa Mexicana/Dos Caminos better.

Our server was lovely, and the food was delicious! Highly recommend any of the shrimp, lobster or brisket tacos. If also recommend the Toloache margarita!

Low quality food that has no resemblance to Mexican food. Chicken breast was pieces of grizzle. Salsa is like cream of red sauce. Tables.are.tight together with deafening noise. Hard to get waiters attention. Very expensive eespecially for Mex food even if the food were good. Our 16 year old grandson could.not eat the horrible.skirt steal. Do not go here.

New favorite before a show

The paella was delicious. Guacamole was good, but mild is REALLY mild. Pollo tolache was delish too. Desserts look great but we were to full to partake.

Great service too.

Don’t go before a show without reservations.

We enjoyed a lunch at Toloache with a large party of 12 guests. The restaurant seated half of the guests and was patient in waiting for the remaining guests to arrive. Meal was excellent and service was great. Staff was courteous and helpful. They related well with adults and children.

Welcoming and friendly, the service was exceptional. We had all ages in the group and the menu held something for all. The service was quick. The waiters even remembered where each dish went in our large group. We'd certainly visit again.

We started with the guacamole trio. One was better than the other. Could not stop eating those chips! I had the carne asada. It was cooked perfectly. I did not like the sauce on the cheese enchilada, however. Red sangria paired nicely, yum!

Arrived 30 min early for 6:00 reservation for 2 said we would be happy to get seated early but was told to go to the bar-had a great margarita. At 6 we checked with hostess and was told they would come get us in a few min. Crowd was increasing. At 6:10 went back to hostess and was told just a few more minutes. At 6:20 we checked back and told they gave our table away! But they would find one. Another 10 minutes later...They stuck a table at top of stairs for us - and crowded the table of 12 next to us into smaller space. Asked to speak to manager to express dissatisfaction but he never came to talk to us. Just felt they treated us very poorly. We were going to a show so we couldn’t leave to find another restaurant and just ordered a few apps so we wouldn’t miss curtain. VERY SORRY WE SELECTED TOLOACHE.

Good food, very crowded and cramped, not very accommodating for picky children, no kids menu. But it is in time square area near theatres so I guess all this is understandable.

We had dinner with friends and enjoyed it very much. We went there on easter sunday for dinner as we want to try the mexican cousine. The food was excellent, especially the fresh made guacamole. Also the offered cocktals and beer tasted very good.
We had an awsome dining and could recommend this restaurant to everyone who loves typical mexican food.

We dined at Toloache-Midtown for my fiancé's birthday but also pre-show for a matinee on Broadway. The table was ready when we arrived for our 12:00 PM reservation so we were seated immediately.

Service early in the meal was very attentive and the food was very good. Our table had a mix of tacos, the guacamole trio, fish, and quesadillas. All were very flavorful and very good especially the guacamole.

We did have a few issues while there:

1) During the meal, some spices must have got into the ventilation system or were released from the kitchen as we had upstairs seating and almost the entire area started coughing over a 10 minute period. Very strange but it did go away.

2) I had pre-arranged a dessert for my fiancé for her birthday. Something very simple with churros for the table and a candle. It took almost 1/2 hour for that to arrive which made us have to rush at the end of the meal in order to make our show. Not sure what happened because the rest of the service was very good. They just fell down when it came to the dessert.

Overall the meal was very good outside of the two issues above so I would still recommend Toloache-Midtown. I would just make sure if you have anything special arranged, that you push for it to be delivered early to your table to avoid the rush we had to deal with.
