We saw them microwave our soup. Food was ok. I would not go there again.
We walked by the Tokyo Perl several times and it looked inviting, with tables outside and heaters to keep you comfortable. Their write up says that their servers wear masks and we expect that because DC is still under mandatory masks order. So we decided to check them out.
When we came, the greeter, who also turned out to be our server, was NOT wearing a mask. We felt uncomfortable. Even though we are vaccinated, with rising Delta cases, we do not spend time without masks around people, whose vaccination status we do not know. Not only it increases the risk, it also tells us they don’t much care about their customers.
We got the table outside as far as we could from the unmasked server and put our masks in when she came to our table. This make it less pleasant, even though our food and drinks were very good.
We won’t be back until they fix this problem or COVID is over.
Very cool outdoor dining area right in the heart of DuPont Circle
First, the hours on Open Table and Google differ from their actual opening hours. I made a reservation for 2:15, but they don't open until 3:00 on Sundays. We ended up getting a drink next door while we waited, and when my friend went to go double check on our table at 3:22, she was greeted with a "NO. No, no" from a staff member. We ended up sitting outside (which was fine) but our server didn't know how to turn on the heaters and didn't even make an attempt to do so. Finally, the prices on the menu did not match the prices online. Small portions, and mediocre quality. I won't be returning.
They were closed during the time I made my reservation :( don’t make brunch reservations here!!
The sushi was good, but it took some time to get waited on for drinks and food. They then disappeared for about 30 minutes while we were waiting for the check. They tried to take food not once but twice while we were still eating the edamame, like holding it in our hand eating it tried to take the bowl.
Great happy hour with strong, yummy drinks and $5 sushi! Usually quieter on weekdays. Love the blue crab & avo roll!
Absolutely loved it! Many different good selections and great HH!!!
Service checked in only once every 30 minutes. Charged automatic 25% gratuity. Disappointing.
Went to dinner and it wasn’t busy at all when we got there. We had been there for an hour and only our two appetizers and two beverages were brought out. Ordered one maki roll and when our waitress came back ordered dessert and the check because we were going to a comedy club that we were now going to be a little tight on time for. Our waitress was confused when we asked when the roll I ordered would be out when she was confused and asked that I haven’t received it. (Clearly not if I’m asking) we ordered the mochi with fresh berries and 10 minutes later, we received two freezer burned mochi, cut in half, loaded with chocolate syrup and sprinkles. We were very much expecting mochi with strawberries and other mixed berries, not Hershey syrup. Overall a very disappointing meal and did not feel that the 20% tip they added to my bill was an appropriate tip based on my experience.
Sushi didn’t taste fresh. And the overuse mayo based sauces on everything. But very cool vibe and ambiance. Go for drinks and Apps. Skip the sushi
it was cool.
Loud, sushi just ok.
The restaurant doubles as a night club. Be prepared for a lively dining experience. There was also a "pandemic fee" on the bill that the waitress could not explain and mandatory 20% gratuity.
Good food, service needs work. Wine is super expensive for the quality.
The server was very helpful. The food was poor; the sushi rolls tasted off.
the food wasnt horrible but the service was terrible & the table and area underneath were dirty when we were seated
Great food and ambiance, menu was a bit limited but food was tasty!
Amazing staff, the waiters and waitress very attentive will come back
Delicious sushi at an amazing happy hour price!
Service was good however the sushi rice was mushy and the tuna had a weird off taste to it.
When you enter, you may want to second guess your choice, but the patio seating instantly changes your mind. I enjoyed sitting in the swing as a I enjoyed my drinks and sushi. I had to order extra rolls becasue they were small, but everything was fresh and the service was welcoming and friendly.
Terrible. Drinks were overly sweet and slow to come out. Sushi was warm. Tuna tacos are just tortilla chips with tuna from a roll slapped on top.
We showed up for our reserved table and were informed that they weren't serving anything but appetizers because they didn't have the equipment to roll sushi or something, which sounds unbelievable for a sushi restaurant. They only had appetizers (miso and edamame) so we had to scramble to find another place to eat. No apology. Seems like they should have notified us in advance that dinner was not possible so we could have made alternative plans.
The date went well. But the selection of food was lacking. No fried rice or sake. Was not too happy about that.
Wait staff had no knowledge of the menu and the sushi was just okay... I won’t go back but it wasn’t horrible. Go to a mom and pop place in Chinatown and you’d be better served.
Great Happy Hour Specials! Would come back for those. Sushi was moderately priced for DC which was great but also felt quality of the fish was not top shelf.
Cool atmosphere outside, especially if you sit in one of the hanging chairs! The happy hour deals were good prices and the sushi tasted great!
Overall, a fine place to come for a happy hour, but maybe not dinner. We had a great time, but the service was very, very slow. The sushi was fresh, but just not a wide selection. Would definitely recommend this place for a happy hour, but maybe not date night.
I've visited Toyko Pearl pre-covid and post covid. I don't see this place lasting very long. They serve what is the equivalent of airport sushi, with average service, and unprofessional staff. During our visit we were told the bartender was late (and seemed to never show up the whole time we were there), staff were drinking while working, and it was just poor quality all around. The drinks were terrible and expensive for a basic rail drink. The back patio is an absolute mess. Ladders, wires, and paint everywhere. It looks dirty and unkempt. It's not clear at all whether they're open or not. Back when they had hookah and a good happy hour and cute back patio it was worth going. Now it's a disaster.
Subpar service despite the restaurant being almost empty. All but one drafts were out of stock and our service was very slow. Ambiance was nice and I’m sure this would be a great weekend spot once normal bar life returns.
Made a reservation, followed the hours posted and arrived to find the restaurant closed. Call ahead to confirm hours before so you aren’t stuck in a hard position.
Wanted to take a friend to a nice sushi place in DC for dinner. Was recommended Tokyo pearl from a friend and was not disappointed. From the food, to the customer service, to the ambiance.. we were more than satisfied with our dining experience. We will be back very soon.
Tokyo Pearl was a great Friday night find! My boyfriend and I loved the extensive cocktail list and the food was as delicious as it was instagrammable. The COVID precautions, outdoor dining and distanced tables definitely put my mind at ease.
BEAUTIFUL PATIO! had a great experience. My food was amazing, some of the best sushi in town! My cocktail was also great, my server was very knowledgeable in helping me chose what to drink.
Try the love of fate and the highway to hell for cocktails. The love of fate has q lovey fall autumn taste and feeling, the highway to hell is a refreshing drink bringing me back to a Mediterranean vibe. Sushi was really good, we had the volcano blow, dragon, and the double pearl.
the cocktails were really good and the sushi was fresh and tasty!!! Always coming back here! The sushi chef does wonders! And the cocktails are one of a kind!
