The value for the Tasting Dinner was not what expected
Only 3 of the courses were outstanding while others were ok
The value for the price not as expected
The service was also underpar if compared to other restaurants visited at same level.
ONE OF THE FEW REMAINING GIANTS OF NEW YORK CITY RESTAURANTS FOR EVERYTHING THAT MAKES DINING IN NYC THE BEST IN THE WORLD.
Amazing experience, food was superb and so was the service, perfect for date night
Celebrating my birthday at Tocqueville was perfection! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
The entire experience was lovely.
The classic French fair was just what I needed and was superb. The staff couldn't have made our visit any better. What really stands out is that everything was timed perfectly and everyone is trained
Beautifully! We are so tired of 'Hey Guys how ya doing!' school of eating, as you can't call most restaurants a dining experience. We are in a service business as well and we truly appreciate professional, high quality service and fine food.
The most perfect celebration, we will be back soon!
This is a sophisticated restaurant that offers fine food and service in a beautiful, romantic setting for discerning diners.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. Wonderful restaurant to celebrate anything !!
We celebrated a birthday & the evening was impeccable and memorable. Servers were professional: not cloying, but intuited when you needed something.
The food, across the board, was fabulous. The sauces were complex & flavorful, but also light. Fish cooked perfectly. Our vegetarian daughter was ecstatic about her quinoa & vegetable tagine. We shared the uni carbonara, which was to die for. Will definitely return for a non-Occasion.
This was a superb meal - a seven-course lunch, with every course exquisite. Bravo, Tocqueville!
One of the finest, elegant, refined restaurants in NYC. Superb dining for the most sophisticated diner. A gourmet experience.
A beautiful place, great for a quiet leisurely dinner or a special occasion. It is an oasis in a city where everyone moves fast and the noise is often a deterrent to a great conversation over dinner.
Good as always but hugely disappointing that the sea urchin bolognaise wasn’t available. I had talked it up with my colleague and we were both going to get it.
This was a stellar dining experience from start to finish. Our server Miguel was informed, efficient & eager to please. The food was exceptional & the gin cocktail w/brut & Pavon was perfection. The asparagus soup with cheese dumpling was divine-- the cheese creamy & light. The mushrooms risotto was perfectly cooked & beyond flavorful. The sea bass with mustard seeds & blood orange was the best fish I have ever had in a restaurant. My husband had the filet mignon marinated in Siracha. I don't even like filet mignon & thought it was delectable. For dessert I had the passion fruit trifle----- I have run out of superlatives. It was not too sweet but was fresh, clean tasting ---- again, one of the best desserts I have ever had in a restaurant. We will definitely be back--- & the sooner the better!!!!!
Sophisticated dining in an elegant, low-key setting.
A long-time favorite, with friends in from England wanted a place where conversation was possible. Aside from the pricey prix fixe, the a la carte prices are also quite high. Everything we ate was imaginatively prepared, beautifully presented and quite tasty. Don't recall music in the past; a mild intrusion(I'm a musician). Service pleasant. If its peace and quiet and good food, you might consider Tocqueville.
The best adult restaurant in New York for food, service and decor.
Love food ambience and quiet!!
Everything was exquisite. Delicious food served at the perfect pace. Atmosphere super comfortable and noise level such that you can actually have a conversation - rare in NYC these days! Wonderful and I can't wait to return!
This restaurant is consistently excellent. Don’t miss the mushroom risotto and the lobster!
Our food was delicious. Beautiful room and great service. Fine dining!
The staff were very attentive , courteous, and professional.
The atmosphere was very dull and subdued.
The food was certainly subpar especially for the pricing. The risotto was good; however, the Foie Gras was not special. The Wagyu picanha steak was very bland (had to add pepper and salt to give it some flavor).
May have gone there on a bad night for them but certainly this place does not match the description and ratings on Open Table and Zagat.
Old school, and all the better for it! 40 covers, so nice and intimate. Beautifully maintained 1970/80's double height interior, with good lighting, perfect for a first date, or even a night out. Small menu means no agonising about what to eat.
And it's possible to get in without booking weeks in advance!
Beautiful restaurant with top service and food. A great place for special gatherings, nothing is overlooked. Great staff and service.
I love Tocqueville. It's super elegant and the food is amazing. I'm always puzzled that so few people take advantage of the prix fixe lunch, because the quality far surpasses any other meal I've gotten at this price anywhere else in New York (I've done the prix fixe lunch twice). Unlike other fixed menus, you get to choose any appetizer, any main, and any dessert. My friend had the grits, eggs, & lardon for starters with steak for main and cheesecake for dessert (all was great, but too heavy a combo for me). I had a beautiful salad followed by fish (there were oranges and mustard seeds and chopped pickles - sounds odd but it was really special). For dessert I had a chocolate & hazelnut 'truffle' (large - almost a terrine) with gelato. It's a great place to go with someone who can't tolerate a noisy dining room.
Space, ambiance, quiet are the reason to return. Service was nothing to complain about but a little off, shy of impeccable. Food was good... not top top end but higher end. Value was as expected for slightly more formal French dining out. The amuse bouche and the complimentary additional sorbets at the end were appreciated... the sorbets were excellent. The flourless warm chocolate cake fine but not different than expected. We shared a starter salad (VERY good... with frisee etc, and a nicely acidic vinaigrette) and entree (Sea Bass... it was rich! and glad we shared it. Portions were as fish servings are --- very adequate but not hugmongous) and we had a side vegetable.
As soon as we walked in we knew we were in for a true French dining experience . My wife and I lived in France during the 1960s and dined regularly in world class restaurants. Tocqueville lives up to those memories. A quiet, calm ambience, perfect for an evening out with our daughter and her husband awaited us. The food and service matched our expectations. We plan on returning soon with out of town friends who love to dine well.
Appetizers and desserts are outstanding. The restaurant is elegant and the service is good. The best attraction for me is that it is quiet enough to allow for conversation.
We loved the amuse bouche, asparagus soup with raviolo, the egg and bacon appetizer, the Moroccan lamb "osso buco" (which should be called "osso agno") and the chocolate soufflé. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. We were particularly grateful when we were permitted to move form one table to another. We will return.
Such a great restaurant. Start with the food - inventive with classical roots. Really exceptional flavors and of course beautiful presentations. I especially appreciated the civilized, grown up atmosphere. No screamers. Just a pleasant setting to enjoy the dinner and the company. Oh, and a beautiful room.
Not cheap, but worth it. It’s a rare gem.
Tocqueville is phenomenal! My wife and I have eaten at Tocqueville many times. We are always happy to return, and we have never been disappointed. The five-course tasting menu reflects the chef's exquisite talent for combining flavors, each of which delicately enhances the others. It is a special treat for a discriminating palate, and the five-course lunch is a bargain for a thinning wallet. Go to this gem of culinary delight and enjoy!

It deserves its high reputation as one of new York's best.
The restaurant is expensive, but good. The service is wonderful. But I only go on special occasions.
Great meal. One of the best duck dishes I have ever had. Lobster was also superb.
Always outstanding -try the asparagus appetizer- truly amazing!
Tocqueville always provides a great relaxing and seamless dining experience. The staff genuinely enjoy sharing their wonderfully crafted fare with their guests. The menu is fairly stable, which is just fine with me. They've perfected the dishes they serve.
This is not the place for cutting-edge food, but you will not be disappointed. This is a great place for special occasions!
We enjoyed the ambiance and the food was good, not particularly inventive but certainly good. Overall, it just wasn't worth the prices we paid. We were disappointed by our service--staff did not bring wine when we ordered it, but did consistently interrupt us whenever we were visibly having a particularly romantic or intimate moment. They were not able to offer particularly helpful advice around what to order. For the hefty price tag, we would have been be better off going somewhere else.
Tocqueville is absolutely amazing! The food is outstanding, the ambiance is perfect, the service is impeccable! It is definitely a destination restaurant for an evening out. I took my best friend for her birthday celebration and we were blown away. It is expensive but perfect for a special occasion splurge. We will definitely return to celebrate my upcoming 75th birthday.
I hadn’t gone there before but thought I would try it. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! We loved the food, the service, the whole place. We are definitely going back! Thanks for also makkng it so easy to make a reservation.
Fine food and service. Interesting wine list. Great for special occasion
Food and service were perfect.Wine was perfectly paired with food.Perfect elegant evening.
Pleasant surprise to enter a quiet peaceful space. Food was excellent as were the wines. However all wines were pricey with no economical choices. Will definitely return
