I went there for prix-fixe lunch with friends to celebrate a birthday. Service was very elegant, warm and friendly and food quality and presentation was excellent. They somehow knew it was a birthday and brought out a special dessert to celebrate. I loved my entree and can't wait to go back.
Overall, an excellent experience. The food was quite good although my cod fish entree was a bit bland with little to no accompaniments on the plate. Service was very good but unusually hurried for a restaurant of this caliber. All In, the meal was completed in just over 1 hour. Beautiful space.
Small number of tables, nicely spaced, keeps the noise level down. Also wonderful jazz/romantic music played at a low volume. The menu is small, but all the dishes are well prepared and presented. We eat there several times a year for over a decade. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable.
Overall a perfect experience, we had the 7 course tasting with wine pairing , every course was amazing if anything too generous, the servers were so hospitable and explained every course w/ detail , we can't wait to came back, best kept secret in NY, worth every dime!
Sublime, delicious cuisine (try the tasting menu) with gracious service. Delightful, cozy ambience with generous spacing between comfortable tables and high ceilings.
We dined here a couple of days ago and have to say that the food overall was exceptionally very good & lived up to our expectations! I also think that this restaurant is underrated and well deserves more accolades from the NY Times and Michelin rating, only if they could have improved & upgrade in their services, although the waiter & sommelier were very friendly & courteous...
We will definitely come back for more!
Impeccable on every level. The staff should give training to some other high-end eateries on how to look after guests seamlessly. WW
Impressive chef’s special. truth passion, not a technic.
We were very happy everything in tocqueville.
Duck’s skin(signiture dish) contained unique and long aroma like a bouquet of great wine.
We came for lunch on a snow day but were treated as if they were happy to be there only for us! The food was surprising and excellent, as was the service. Would recommend to anyone.
We wanted a relatively quiet restaurant with good food, attentive service and romantic atmosphere. Tocqueville met our expectations especially the service. We felt like our server was ours alone and that made a special occasion very special.
The was very hospitable. They kindly took our coats and were very attentive to our needs throughout the dining experience. The food was prepared elegantly. We loved the tenderness of the duck breast and the contrasting texture of the Granny Smith apple tart.
Excellent food and service . The sommelier was outstanding
It is a beautiful room and the food quite good as is the service. You can enjoy the meal in a quiet, classy room. My one complaint is that we did arrive in time for their 5:30-6:30 pre-fixe menu, but the menu was not offered to us. We were treating the other couple, and I felt uncomfortable asking for the menu in front of them, as if saying that they should order from it.
As a result the meal was very enjoyable, but more expensive than it might have been.
For my birthday I chose Tocqueville. We had a very bad traffic experience and Tocqueville was so kind to let us come a bit later. We ordered a la carte— for me the cheddar salad, scallops with one and a chocolate soufflé. All dishes were exceptional quality and the service was excellent. I would return.
Very expensive, and not quite worth it from the quality of the food preparation. In particular, their signature appetizer dish, angel hair pasta with California sea urchins was over-cooked in such a way that the pasta stuck together. The sea scallops with foie gras was a little over salty. These were not fatal flaws, but when you are spending $100+ per head, you expect quality commensurate with price.
Wines by the glass could stand a greater variety. In general a very nice evening, but I doubt that I will return..
As always, I had a lovely dinner. The service is omniscient with out being overbearing. The food is perfectly portioned and is as beautiful as it is delectable. The dining room is large with high ceilings giving an elevated experience a bit more grandeur. The art is also complimentary and quite lovely.
Very pleasant , calm, elegant dining room. Nicely balanced menu. Trout tartar , Lobster Ravioli starters are outstanding. Cod, Sea Trout entree equally very good. Wine list is broad and extensive with huge price point availability ($50-$14,000) including some lesser known producers and regions. Outstanding sommelier. Service is professional, efficient, and attentive.
Very nice restaurant to enjoy food, ambiance and service. Also very nice location.
We had a wonderful "special occasion" meal at Tocqueville. Each dish was carefully crafted and very enjoyable. The wine list was expansive. We will be back!
We had a lovely evening from the service right down to the last crumb. The food was deliciously executed and the wine pairings were on point. Anything but average. Would recommend to anyone seeking a great quality experience.
In fact it was my last meal in newyork! I was so fascinated about your signature drinks cause it was so nice! Overall the server was the kindest man I’ve ever met and the dishes I served was absolutely nice and fine among the fine dining restaurants in newyork!
Very nice atmosphere and service is great. Perfect for special occasions.
Tocqueville was outstanding. Everyone is our group thought each course was exceptional. The service was very good and not intrusive. The room is beautiful and every table has a great deal of space. What a New York treasure- so civilized.
Celebrated post-Valentine's Dinner and wife's birthday, and it was a phenomenal experience & cuisine. Ordered off the a la carte menu with some customization. Our splendid waiter was quite helpful with specifics & wine pairings by the glass. Some not even on the menu. Our table for two was recessed and so romantic. Service was impeccable. The discreet remembrance of my wife’s birthday was quite nice with a custom dessert to accompany the one we ordered.
Everything we had - we loved. Truly amazing was the artic char tartare, Followed by Sea Urchin pasta and duck. We were not be disappointed with anything on the menu and could not ask for better service.
We celebrated Valentine's Day a day late and were not disappointed by the food or the service. The service was attentive with out being overbearing and very warm. We both ordered the Wagyu Steak dish and were blown away by the tender meat and its succulent juices. We also had wine pairing with the help of the knowledgeable and courteous Somm. We will definitely be coming back again to experience more of the expertly chosen wine list. Dessert was perfectly portioned and capped off the meal wonderfully. We finished our meal with a lovely Hennessey Paradis.
Booked a month in advance and were seated upstairs in the hall by the bathrooms. Guess we just don't deserve the main dining room. Service was slow and food was completely average. Yes it was Valentine's Day. They were packing us in and doubling the prices. The meal was worth about a third of what we paid. Should have known better.
I began my evening at Tocqueville greeted with smiles and warmth. The service was impeccable and the food was truly lovely. I had the very rich and creamy Uni Carbarnara, which was delicious but not for anyone on a diet. I later had the Trout dish, which was both visually and palette pleasing as well as totally creative. For dessert my guest and I shared an assortment of house made ice-creams and sorbets. The overall ambiance of the restuarant was classy and still cozy and comfortable. The staff was very informative and friendly. Cannot wait to come back again to try the duck dish.
A definite must try. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu which turned out to be more like 11 courses. First came a few bite size courses from off the menu and each was delicious. Then we had our 7 courses and the portions were appropriately sized and each dish excelled in taste and presentation. It was nice that we also had some flexibility in what we chose from the menu. A variety of sweets to follow the dessert course rounded out the 11th course.
Cocktails were good. We didn't do the wine pairing.
Service was excellent.
OUTSTANDING. REALLY SPECIAL. DESERVES MORE ACCLAIM. LOVED IT.
Tocqueville is excellent in every way. From the perfect oysters trough the blue cheese course, food, service and ambience are world class. The wine list is excellent as well.
Calm, professional, beautifully understated, delicious!
My husband and I celebrated our 3 year Anniversary here at Tocqueville and I am thrilled to say this place is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The Ambiance , The Food, The drinks and the service was beyond expectations! We ordered appetizers, entrees, and desserts and each course was quite impressive. Our server made our night very special and I would recommend anyone that is celebrating a romantic night to dine here.
really amazing! food was delicious and the service was impeccable
Tocqueville is truly one of the Gems in NYC. As I entered the restaurant the ambiance was very sophisticated and elegant. The host welcomed me with a smile and overall the service was very pleasing. I ordered the California Sea Urchin and Angel Hair Carbonara as an appetizer and it was delicious and creamy!, the Smoked Duck Breast was exceptional. My date and I had an amazing time, I cannot wait to come back again.
Friendly, elegant with great food. Loved the tasting menu and wine pairing.
Excellent restaurant. We eat here every time we come to New York and are never disappointed. Wonderful wait staff, great wine pairings and beautiful quiet dining room. We love this restaurant!
Their lunch continues to be my favorite way to spend a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon. Delicious from start to finish, delightful and welcoming staff, well priced for what you get, and a peaceful respite from chaotic and noisy atmospheres compared to damn near every other option.
This trip was partly inspired by a somewhat lackluster experience earlier in the week at a midtown Restaurant Week option. The service and food at that Fifth Avenue option left me craving Tocqueville all the more, and I was relieved and refreshed to enjoy once again the wonderful focaccia, the cheese puffs (that should be enjoyed swiftly while warm!), the always-good salads, tasty and comforting duck parmentier, and the housemade ice creams and sorbets.
Tocqueville is a small masterpiece of a French restaurant. From the moment you enter this its aura of luxurious, yet simple, ambiance, you are embraced by the attentive and highly professional staff. Details of fine dining are meticulously executed as to comfort, service, knowledge of food and wine and, of course, splendid classic French cuisine designed with imagination and cooked with formidable skill. Note that the atmosphere and tone of the house is wonderfully civilized, yet never stuffy. Tocqueville understands that its clients come for a delightful dining experience, and that is precisely what they get. Enjoyment prevails.
One of the best meals I️ have hand in a long Time. Very good potion sizes, and the service was amazing. I️ will come back as long as it is there.
