Tocqueville Ratings and Reviews
The bar was well stocked with the largest variety of scotch and bourbon that I have ever seen in NYC. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. The service was impeccable without being intrusive. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. An oasis of quiet in a busy and noisy city.
Excellent if you are in the mood for a staid experience. Food is excellent: consistent, beautifully-plated, and service is also professional. Decor and atmosphere is a bit dated and heavy - think Restaurant Daniel pre-renovation. Prices are VERY high ($ 16 desserts!) but not surprisingly so.
An expense account GO!
Toqueville is well out of its slump of a few years back. Food was great and imaginative.
The beef dish portion of the tasting menu was not what my wife expected, although nothing wrong with it. They graciously offered her an alternative.
Looking forward to going back
We ordered the 5 course tasting menu. Each course got progressively worse as the meal
continued Paired with sauternes. sweet wines. Never going back again.
Having been to just about all the fine restaurants in Gramercy/Flatiron thought we would try something different. Big mistake.
My wife arranged a celebratory birthday dinner for me at Tocqueville. Fatima Zielinska worked with her on every aspect of the evening. She created a special tasting tasting menu which addressed my wife's allergy to crustaceans and satisfied my love of that food. Fatima also attentively "watched over us" during the evening as well suggesting and serving the wines which were paired with the 5 courses. This intimately sized, beautifully appointed restaurant is known to provide a highly rated classic NYC fine dining experience and richly deserves its excellent reputation. I also want to thank all staff for their high level of professional graciousness and competence and once again I say enthusiastically............THANK YOU FATIMA.
Service is impeccable and food was tastefully presented and fresh. The ambience and decor is elegant and quiet though there are lively conversations at other tables.I am sure dinner would be even better with the wine pairings and tasting menu. It was a quick get together on our way to the airport for a trip abroad. So next time ,we would have time to savor and linger.
Always good. Unfortunately, the Scottish trout turned out to be Scotish Salmon, so this time I was disappointed with the main course. It was delicious but not what I expected and nothing out of the ordinary. French is what is spoken by staff and I think this was a language issue.
The Tocqueville online reservations system is problematic. For the second time, I had no reservation when I arrived, although I had booked on line. Did on their website although booking was through OpenTable. Advise to call for reservation rather than do online here.
Still, this a gem of a restaurant.
I came with my son who's turning 18 next month to plan his birthday party with him and we just had amazing experience all around, from friendly staff , food, ambiance, decor simply put a New York gem on 15th street
While we waited for table to be set bartender Eddie was entertaining us with clever humor and delicious cocktails that time flew by before we got to our table and then we got a pleasant surprise when we ordered our food " out of this world delicious "
Appetizers from heavenly grits's and sea urchin angel hair carbonara that was so light and tasty
For main course I had lightly smoked duck breast just done right- delicious and my son had Butter poached Maine Lobster that was so tasty that my son loved it And then for desert Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut Bon Bon with hazelnut ice cream reminded me of home -Europe
Delicious food....the head waiter wasn't as attentive as needed, he never offered the wine list until asked and never stopped back over to inquire about our meal. Spending over $400.00 for a meal, you'd certainly expect more personal attention. The waitstaff were very good though. This is an adult setting with alcohol being served, and children shouldn't be present. Also, cell phone usage should be prohibited, hearing other conversations dampens the ambience and mood.
Lovely quiet room. Great for conversation. Food is very good, though not truly great. Main course selection a bit limited as to meat (only steak). Wine list not as good as it should be -- very few bargains (i.e. good bottles under $100). Elegant and understated.
A wedding brought me to NYC for the weekend, so I figured I'd secure a nice dinner at some point while in the city. The food and overall dining experience were excellent. Yes, it is pricey but unlike some restaurants I felt this one was worth it. The service matched the elegance of the food quality.
