The place is elegant and classy. The service was impeccable. Our waiter helped us choose the perfect wine, based on our description of what we like. The bread served was fresh and fantastic- good bread is usually the harbinger of what’s to come. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.
They did forget our birthday dessert, even though I reminded them that we were there for my husband’s birthday, but we forgave them because all in all this was a wonderful evening.
This restaurant will become a favorite on our list.
After a marvelous time enjoying the tasting menu, dining room, and ambiance at Toqueville this past summer, we were terribly disappointed by our dining experience last night. True, the white truffle risotto was outstanding ($140 appetizer), however the sea bass was overwhelmed by an avalanche of mustard seeds and served inedible skin side up. The chicken galantine was not a galantine, but a breast accompanied by a chicken sausage with light foie gras.... However, the biggest disappointment was the service: our champagne by the glass was flat, we were asked if we were finished while obviously still eating (there were open tables...) not once, but twice... and the staff seemed to have attitude about it.
My friend and I have been celebrating our birthdays at Tocqueville for five years. It is a large beautiful, spacious room with beautiful art and tables spaced well apart It is a quiet luxurious space. We always get the 3-course prix fixe lunch which is a good deal. There is always a fish option and a non-fish (meat or poultry) option on the menu. THe food is exquisitely prepared and delicious. Very fine cuisine. It is served in a gracious and elegant manner. We also get the wine parings with our first two courses--which are excellent wines that go well with food--and you get full, interesting explanations of what you are getting and why. If you don't like one wine, they are happy to bring another. Because they noticed it was our birthday, they brought us a second dessert free. I don't think there is a more elegant way to celebrate a birthday lunch available in NYC and for the quality it is a great value.
We had not been to Tocqueville for a while. The atmosphere is lovely and welcoming. The food is excellent. A 5 course and a 7 course menu are mentioned but not explained. Good sommelier.
The chef is brilliant. The sea bass preparation was the best I have ever had..Bravo to Juliien
What a delightful experience. A must for lunch when you want to feel like you want great food, service and elegance.
Food was absolutely delicious!
Modern French at its best. Seamless service and outstanding food.
Best restaurant in NYC and a well kept secret. You are lucky if you come across this place. The food is impeccable and the service is wonderful.
The tastes are perfectly put together with many fresh ingredients. Certain to please even the most sophisticated palette.
Quite atmosphere, very local. Beautifully decorated restaurant, I can dine there for hours.
Toqueville is the "grown up" restaurant in my neighborhood. The food is always unusual and delicious, beautifully presented and served. The ambiance is quiet and even when the place is filled, it's possible to have real conversations without asking someone to repeat themselves. The service is perfect, everyone seems intent on making your dining experience a good one.
Good food. Almodóvar there...
You are clearly paying for the air in this place. I'm not sure where the money goes, because it isn't for the staff, an unhappy and ornery group, some lacking an ability to even enunciate enough so we can understand them. It doesn't go to the quality of the ingredients, I've never ordered such expensive duck that tasted so much like cheap ham steak. Would I recommend this? Only for someone trying to impress a cheap date who wouldn't know the difference.
Spectacular restaurant. Ambiance was quiet, sophisticated, warm. Service was perfect. Food was absolutely delicious.
Everything was perfect
Except the restaurant was very warm
A lovely restaurant that reminds me of our long-gone favorite Chanterelle
Love this special place for special occasions. And love that they make each customer feel valued.
Amazing food and service
We went for Thanksgiving. The food was cold, the menu limited, the service slow and unfriendly. The bill, however, didn't reflect any of this - quite pricey. I won't be going back.
I asked for water and no ice - room temperature- but when it arrived it was ice water with ice. I asked for water with no ice and the busboy just dumped the water and ice out and filled it with water bringing back soaking wet glasses. Turned me off. They don't carry a brand of still water in a glass bottle and I don't prefer sparkling and the only still they had was Evian in a plastic bottle. I don't like using plastic for environmental reasons. The purpose for asking for "no ice " is so there won't be bacteria in the glass. Once you dump it out the bacteria is still there. Ice is one of the grossest things you can have at a restaurant. And then I went to the bathroom to see them carrying up buckets of ice. Which is a little gross too. Cause who makes sure the buckets stay clean all day?
The food was good. Loved the truffle tagliatelle and the tuna tartare. The main waiter was good although it took awhile for us to order even though we said "we are ready to order". It was still another 10 minutes. I don't recommend the Thanksgiving Sundae. It was not made fresh. It had been previously made and stuck in the freezer. A little unappetizing but my husband's chocolate cake was excellent. And the sommelier was super cool.
Had great time and best french in NYC for our 10 years wedding anniversary
Everything was fantastic. The sommelier made on point recommendations and our server was extremely attentive to our pace. Never rushing in any way.
We had theater tickets for an 8 p.m. curtain so we arrived at 6.10 and it worked out extremely well.
We were greeted warmly and whisked to a great table. Service was impeccable, reserved but friendly. Absolutely first class.
Our two courses with wine pairing were terrific. The wine presentation was especially wonderful. Could not have asked for a
Better dinner. We look forward to returning for the tasting menu.
A fantastic meal and very attentive staff. Will definitely go there again
The experience was enjoyable except for my partner's lobster was undercooked which necessitated him having to order something else off the menu.
Tocqueville never disappoints! Two friends and I enjoyed the 3-course Greenmarket Prix Fixe lunch - everything was beautifully presented and served, and delicious. Totally worth the $36. The suggested wine pairing was well-matched to the dishes and a veritable bargain at $16 for 2 different wines, one with starter and one with main. The room is so lovely and comfortable. Tables are spaced far apart, so one can really enjoy a good conversation. We will definitely go back!
Loved everything about the place. Food is top notch. Service is professional and just the right amount of friendly. Can’t wait to go back
Outstanding. One of the best and most enjoyable meals in recent memory. Classic, elegant and delicious in equal proportions.
Food is very good, wine list is superb. Unfortunately the service was horrible. We were not seated right away, even though our table was ready. Had to ask to coat girl to find our waiter after sitting with the menu for about 30 minutes. The time between the apps and entree's was way too long. This is not a restaurant where a Saturday night dinner should take 3 hours for a party of 5. Will never return as there are thousands of other restaurants in NYC.
Tocqueville never disappoints! Everything is on target and the impeccable service combined with the delicious food in a lovely atmosphere is deserving of 5 stars!
Tocqueville maintains its level of excellence year after year. The food is superb. The staff is excellent. They are always so happy to see you. They anticipate your every need. No sooner do I think "Oh that bread was delicious", than the waiter is there with more bread. I always enjoy my visits there.
If you are looking for a declicious lunch in a quiet, comfortable and elegant setting that is probably the best value in Manhattan, look no further than Tocqueville!
Foreign friends visiting
This is my favorite restaurant in New York City (and I live here and go to many restaurants).
The the service is always terrific; the place is lovely; and the food is magnificent. The dishes
are creative, beautiful, and always taste delicious.
Lunch is a fun time to go as it is never crowded and they have a lovely 3 course pre fixe for $36. I had
a wonderful cauliflower soup followed by Wild Sea Bass that had tiny pieces of vegetables, croutons, and
seasoning on the top. I had never had Sea Bass and suspect that I will never have any as good as this dish was.
Dessert was an incredible apple tart that tasted as though it was made in Vienna or Paris.
Food was terrific, service excellent in a lovely quiet environment
While the restaurant offered a lovely atmosphere and attentive service, portions were absurdly small, particularly the signature scallops. Only two scallops for an entree size portion at these prices is rather ridiculous. As s group of eight, all diners felt portions were strangely small. We’ve all dined here before, but last evening was rather disappointing.
Excellent food and great wine list (albeit a bit over priced). We loved the place great meal tons of service and incredible flavor. The dining room is very nice, conservative but appropriate. Not a place for kids, but for a special night out it was great!
Everything was delicious! Very lovely dinner.
Loved the tasting menu. The meal was really perfect, although expensive. You get what you pay for!
Always a great place to go for their tasting menu. A couple of dishes didn’t quite hit but overall fantastic.
Excellent food and value. Every dish was spot on and comparable to the one Michelin star resturants in the area. It was our second time and we look forward to the next time.
