Born in Naples, Italy and raised in Milan, Bruno Abate was inspired at an early age by his parents for his passion for food and fashion. Bruno opened his first company in Milan, selling fish and caviar to high-end restaurants. His extensive travels around the world helped him appreciate fine food and design and eventually led him to Chicago in 1999, where he combined his passions. In Chicago, Bruno brought together his vision to marry authentic Italian cuisine with a modern design when he opened his first restaurant Follia, in the meatpacking district and currently, Tocco in Winnetka.

The concept was simple, make authentic Italian Cuisine with the finest ingredients and give diners an experience like they were in Italy.

Food very average, and not as good as past visits. Service was marginal with no olive oil or butter served with the not great bread. Overall, disappointing.

Server pushing to turn table. Had to ask for bread, had to ask for olive oil, then $3 charge for oil, plus service charge. $165 for pasta and 2 glasses of wine? Surprised no fee for silverware. Won’t be back.

Hello, We appreciate your review. The service fee added covers the cost of the credit card processing fee which many restaurants in the area charge. The receipt states that we would be glad to remove the fee for you if asked. We use the freshest ingredients and import everything from Italy except our vegetables and meat, which we get in fresh daily. Our olive oil comes directly from Calabria, Toscana, Puglia and costs $24 per ltr plus transportation, storage and tariff. Our goal is to make our customers feel light and not having any problems with digestion; having to depend on TUMS to control the acidity. We appreciate your visit and I will be more than happy next time to offer you a free bottle of our olive oil. - Looking forward to seeing you in the future, Chef Bruno Abate

Usually we enjoy Tocco very much but our last visit was disappointing. They were out of almost all fish and other dishes that we wanted so had to compromise on everything we ordered. It was graduation weekend so I understand it was busy but there should have been better planning and more food ordered in anticipation.

it's great when you look forward to a dinner an it exceeds your expectation....especially when it is your wife's birthday....food, setting and staff were great...I appreciated Tocco's attention, conversation and for making this a plus experience

The food was superb, The lentil soup as well as the entrees met with the entrees surpassed our expetations. the only negative was the outdoor seating. It was not up to their usual standard. They placed us in an unfinished "tent room." WE were reseated in the dining area which was great.
