About

Chef Maycoll Calderón was born in Venezuela, and grew up with a passion for cooking. He embarked on a journey to Spain to launch his career under the mentorship of chefs including Karlos Arguiñano, Juan María Arzak, and Ferran Adria, learning from some of the best in the world. He eventually landed in New York, where he worked for Jean-Geroges Vongerichten, developing and opening several restaurants around the world with him, including Jean-Georges and The Mark by Jean-Georges in NYC, Fern in Puerto Rico, and J&G Grill in Mexico City. Calderón oversees his restaurants down to the last detail, spending his days and nights in the kitchen, interacting with guests, and constantly creating new dishes. The success of Huset inspired Calderón and Meyenberg to bring their forward-thinking, truly Mexico City-style of cuisine to Los Angeles with the opening of Tintorera

This place is closed! Drove all the way there and it’s not open. Remove from open table options. Such a waste of time.

We had a reservation, when we showed up the door was locked and nobody picked up the phone. Would have been nice if you found a way to notify people who have reservations that you do not intend to work that day.

The restaurant was closed, so not really sure how Open Table can have reservations available for restaurants that are closed permanently. It was very inconvenient to travel 1hr across LA to find the restaurant not operating on a Saturday night.

why on earth is this restaurant still on here taking reservations. Its closed and not only, we, but others turned up to eat on Friday! How ridiculous the Restaurant doesnt let people know its closed. It really does spoil at celebratory Friday night when you find out the place you booked isnt even operating.

This restaurant was closed when we tried to go there. We had a reservation for Easter Brunch through Open Table, but no one bothered to contact us to let us know that the restaurant was permanently closed. Huge disappointment.

I was so excited to celebrate my birthday here based on the rave reviews, a friend's recommendation, and overall vibe of the restaurant. I tried to make reservations for my party over the phone but after days of unresponsiveness, I started to worry that they were closed despite having an active social media presence inviting followers to join for "brunch". I had to see for myself, so I visited the restaurant on a day they were supposedly open, and not to my surprise the front door was locked. There was no sign indicating Tintorera was closed for the day. Having thought it was a one-time incident, I visited the place once more and the same situation occurred. Door locked. People outside w/ reservations from Open Table and Resy totally confused. There was 0 communication. It's such a shame, because this restaurant had the potential to be one of the best and most unique in the heart of Silver Lake. Not sure what happened, but would have been courteous of them to notify Open Table, Resy and their potential visitors that they are temporarily out of business.

Anyway! My two cents! Wish them well and hope there is an opportunity in the future to review an actual visit.

The restaurant is closed but they don't bother to shut down the online reservation. We showed up to a closed restaurant no sign nothing. Apparently it's been closed for weeks.

Showed up at our 8pm reservation time to find the restaurant closed. No sign in the window just closed. Heard from the valet that they were closed due to the recent rains (two days previous) and that they were renovating? Ran into two other groups who showed up for their reservations as well. I cannot believe they didn't call and let their customers know when it didn't seem like a last minute emergency closure. Luckily someone else mentioned going to Cliff's Edge and we followed them there and had a great time.

Made a reservation two days in advance as it was our first time coming here. We arrived 5 min before our reservation and the place was entirely shut. It had rained that day and they didn’t feel like calling to tell us they would be closed. I saw a security man for the parking lot next door and he said they do this all the time and people with reservations are just stuck outside. We then had to walk around Silverlake looking for a new restaurant with balloons, cake, etc. Absolutely ruined the birthday dinner and we won’t be back.

We made a reservation, showed up and the restaurant was locked. We tried to see if there was another entrance but there wasn’t. We’ve eaten there previously and really enjoyed it. We were super disappointed. Have they gone out of business? If so, they certainly didn’t notify those with reservations.

We showed up for our reservation and the restaurant was closed! We were stuck in the rain and our Uber had already left. We had to get another Uber (so took and paid for a wasted ride) and had to wait to get seated at another place. Why weren’t they open?

We had come with high hopes and things started well with pre dinner drinks in the bar. However, once we sat down for dinner, the service fell to pieces. One guest didn’t get their app and it took 15+ minutes for the server to come close enough to be flagged down. The time between apps and mains was exorbitantly long - close to an hour. By the end, we had been there with two young kids for close to 2.5 hours. Despite this, the restaurant was only moderately busy and well staffed with floor waiters. To cap things off, this was literally our most expensive dinner in 4 years of living in LA. All in all, very disappointing.

The wait staff was super gracious! We loved the food!
Delighted when the music was turned down because it was a bit loud.

The kitchen was a little slow and the chips were a bit too dry/crunchy? something.

But we loved the place, the staff, the tastes, and will definitely return!

A great find!

They didn’t have a table for us like reserved. Upon booking, the app gave us an option for indoors or outdoors seating. We chose indoors. It didn't show them what we chose and they didn't have a table for us indoors. They tried to seat us outside, on one of the coldest days of the year. They attempted to put two heaters next to us...both were broken. The guy just left and went and started taking drinks to the tables. He never came back. Someone else came. He got one to work. Then it stopped working. We went to another table, it was too cold. So we decided to try the bar. The bar tender had left the bar and didn't return for over 10 minutes. Finally the barback came to us and said she could help us, but she wasn't able to submit the order til the bartender came back. Since he didn't come back for so long, we decided to leave. I was excited about this restaurant because of the review they had in the Hollywood Reporter, as one of the top new restaurants. Obviously the restaurant knew when they were going and took very good care of them because they're a journalist and a food critic. But for the average customer they don't really care, or that's how it seemed.

The ceviche / Aguachiles are not cured prepared properly. I have had them twice - and they are overloaded with oil and the flavor is highly acidic. I have the octopus and I took my boyfriend, and he had to send the shrimp aguachile back. Everything cooked there is amazing and the cocktails are awesome. I had a filet mignon with my friend and it was PERFECT. The mezcal drinks are created perfectly. I normally don’t drink mezcal, but I will here. The raw plates are cured the day of so Iguess that is the explanation for a lack of favor.

Loved this place! Was looking for a romantic evening, late Valentines and this knocked it out of the park. Great vibe great food and very reasonable prices!

Main measure of how much we enjoyed it is, 'Would we go back?", answer is "we CANT wait'!!!!

What a special place: gorgeous completely outdoor dining right on Sunset Blvd - but you’d never know it. The service is friendly and informed. And oh, the food. This is not your everyday LA Mexican food. It’s very specific to CDMX - which is awesome. I can’t stop thinking about the mussels with mint. They were perfectly cooked and so flavorful. One thing that I did not like was the $35 corkage fee. Or the scum valet, but neither spoiled the evening!

Was O.K. Another restaurant that the prices of the cocktails are more than some of the entrees. Returned from a trip to Spain, glass of wine about $3.00, food price reasonable. Dinner in Spain, 3 courses with wine, about $28.00 INCLUDING tax and tip. Our restaurants are really pricing themselves out of existence. Hpe this does not happen here.

Been wanting to go to Tintorera since it opened so was very excited for our date night.
The ambiance is absolutely gorgeous...
Service and food were great! (only bummer was they were out of several dishes that we’d been hoping to try but chalk that up to it was a Sunday night.

Can’t wait to go back
