We dined at this restaurant after a memorial service. We were seated in a private space, which was nice. Our server was pleasant, but was incompetent. It took a long time for him just to take the orders, and did not refill water or drinks without prompting. We were not offered condiments with or food; we requested tartar and cocktail sauce and there was a long wait. Many in our party ordered the cream of crab soup and it was so bland. His suggestion was to add Old Bay. (Would it have been better to alert the chef or offer something else?). The food was reminiscent of hospital food, that was unsalted. So what would have been a good crab cake was tasteless. We enjoyed the private space, but the meal was awful.
Generous portions. The crab cake, shrimp and scallops were very good. The lobster tail not so much. I had the broiled seafood platter. If I were to go again, I’d stick to the crab cake.
First and foremost biggest crab cake I have ever had. Other dishes ordered were excellent. The only drawback was the ambience. The interior is an old version of a 1960's Baltimore restaurant.
Food and ambiance were amazing.
Service was slow, but orders were correct.
Crab cake was ‘eh’. But the lobster was fantastic!! Price was fair.
The open table app allows you to make outdoor seating reservations however they do not have outdoor seating.
Zack our waiter was amazing. The food was perfect and delicious. Will return very soon!
We had a great time. The food was very good. I had the Prime Rib, and it was very good but there was no aujus on the side. The size was huge. Enough for two.
Wife had Crab Imperial. Also huge portion, and delicious. Server was good, but disappeared a lot.
My wife and I have not been to Timbuktu for many years and now live in Pennsylvania. For our anniversary we would normally go to Chrisfields restaurant in downtown Silver Spring where my wife enjoys their stuffed twin lobster tail dinner. Unfortunately since the pandemic they have never reopened their dining room and we did not want such a meal as carryout. I went online in search of a restaurant that has stuffed lobster tail and found your restaurant. The cream of crab soup and the fried calamari were good.
The stuffed lobster tail and my Seafood Cobb salad were noting to get excited about. I also had one draft beer. For $150 I felt the value was not there.
Home of the best Crab cakes in Maryland, and it's true. Simple dining experience, though, pass on the potatoes, they could use some flavoring.
My rockfish had no flavor. My daughter's pork chops were dry.
From Chicago, first Maryland Crab Cake. It was awesome!
Food and ambience and staff are all wonderful; love the steaks on steak night
Always excellent. Had not been there for 2 years and really enjoyed.
We have visited Timbuktu too many times to count, pre-covid. Our recent visit was not up to standards. Besides the sky high prices that are common everywhere, the available sides were limited. The crab cake that is so renowned was in my opnion not of the same quality. Overall, very disappointed.
Can't beat the Monday special of 2 lobsters for $35. Plus the crab cakes are top of the list in my book.
While everyone there was friendly, we sat at the table for at least 20mins before anyone approached our table for service. Many staff members just kept walking past. I saw a table that was seated after me, get their salad before we even had our waitress take the drink orders. The waitress was unapologetic but was respectful and not rude. But she definitely did not want to be at work. Outside of the slow service, the place was nice. Food was excellent.
Good stuff, portions more than we should have eaten.
Amazing crab. We were stopping by before our evening flight. Crab cakes were delicious. the burger was great. And the salad with fresh crab was delicious. So fresh! The plexiglass between each table was a great perk because we have a kid who is too young to be vaccinated. Greatly appreciated this attention to detail and safety.
Food is amazing…but service was slow to start. Took almost 10 minutes for anyone to ask for drink order. But once wait or came, we ordered drinks, apps and dinner all at once to make sure we didn’t have to wait again. Food came out still a little later, but definitely helped to order right away.
Visited Timbuktu August/2021. Ordered a seafood platter and the shrimp, lobster and scallops were overcooked. The crab cake had a plain taste. The waiter was all over the place and unorganized. Do not waste your money.
Good foods, great service
the pasta with shrimp and crab etc had lots of meat however.... there tons of shells in the pasta had to pick thru, not something you would expect from a nice restauarant. I have friends that run limo services and bring groups there. not a good thing. that could be a lawsuit.. bec someone could actually swallow all the little shells in pasta, also we waited forever be checked on to see if we wanted to order food etc.
pasta was good if no shells.. drinks were good.
we had get manager to get waiter to finally come over and excuse was , was waiting for rest of party to come thru, they should have checked regardless.
The Crab cakes are amazing.
Took 20 minutes for someone to recognize we were even sitting there . Service needs some training
We were celebrating my 60th birthday. Was so excited to eat there. Unfortunately our server was very very slow and unattentive. But food was awesome as usual.
We have been planning to dine at Timbuktu for awhile to try the lobster Monday night special. Something always happens that prevented us from going. We finally went last night at 7 pm, but was very disappointed to learn that they ran out of lobsters. We were told that we should come at 4 pm if we wanted the lobsters. This is ridiculous! I can understand running out of lobsters late at night, but not at 7 pm!!!! Was it just a trick to get diners to come?
This is a special treat for us and we drive about 50 miles to get here. The food and drinks are consistently outstanding and we love our waitress of choice, Anna.
Our waiter was pleasant and patient with our table. He got our order correct first time. The food was great and plentiful
I heard good things about the restaurant and finally had to go. We had the crab dip and it was kind of bland and too cheesy. For my entree I had the stuff shrimp with a side of whipped potatoes and salad. The stuff shrimp were extremely salty, the whipped potatoes were very bland, and there was a hair in my salad. I told the waiter and he apologized and offered to get me another but I declined. I did not make a fuss about it at that point I was just turned off and over it. When we received the bill the waiter shared that he removed my meal and apologized again. The waiter was excellent! They offer great portions but the taste is not worth the prices.
OMG, I must tell you the truth, that compared to the previous day before when we had received the food. Today it was served on the correct size plate for our daughter's kid meal of chicken and french fries. Again, the chicken was overcooked and dry but this server quickly responded by making sure our daughter's kid meal was not overcooked and she was happy with a fresh replacement meal. He had also provided us with all the needed compliments to ensure that we were pleased with the meal. I got to truly enjoy my crab cakes without having to share most of my meal without her asking for some of mine. The chief that was cooking last night wanted our daughter to enjoy her chicken meal too.
We hadn't been to Timbuktu in couple of years since our daughter was born, but I was wondering if they still cooked those crab cakes just right for my taste buds. Well, they do! Well the only true disappointment was the food that was served to our daughter off the kid menu. The chicken was overcooked for a child teeth to chew and super dry in taste for us. She mostly consumed the french fries. The chicken along with french fries kept falling off her plate. The plate for her was way too small to be serving her food because her food kept falling off onto the table. So of course she wanted to eat it off the table but with Covid-19 now; we do not allow her to eat off public places anymore. Her plate was meant for appetizers.
We were seated very quickly and the service was quick.
Food, service, atmosphere was great. Always enjoy a great meal every time I visit. I travel from NJ to MD. Worth the trip.
Great customer service and great food. One question why do they add the gratuity on the check
Our server Eddie was all over the place. Other tables being served by other workers got bread with their meals our table did not. We ordered more drinks that never came out until I had to remind our server again. Would not recommend.
Food was good. Enjoyed having Charlie’s service as the waiter. He made the visit very pleasant. I’ll visit again just to experience Charlie’s delightful personality.
The restaurant has some annoying insects flying around the room. The restroom can definitely use some attention.
Love love the food. Especially the crab cakes! They were able to accommodate us a party of 8 for my daughter's birthday.
Food was trash crab cake was old had odor sent back fish fried to hard no flavor this establishment has fallen off Waitress was wonderful establishment was clean but Quality of Food don’t match price tag sorry not sorry
Food was exceptional . The only thing was odd was the Caesar salad came with Italian dressing on it🤔
Service was not good, my waitress up charged me without telling me, for a salad that was suppose to be a side with my order , then got an attitude when I asked her to modify the check.
You could see the entire change in how she handled me and my wife afterwards. Not to mention, we had to flag her down for everything-example- refill on drinks, napkins, straws, and to remove unused plates.
Totally unprofessional and not called for.
Won’t be returning as a direct result of the twisted lip attitude we received from our waitress….😡
