The restaurant has an open kitchen with 6 stools right on the counter to watch all the action. It also boasts a large bar, dining room for 100, a chef's table, and a lush outdoor courtyard that features a fireplace, dining for 50, as well as some "soft" seating near the fire if guests wish to be outside for a drink or snack.
Really rude waitress. Had forgotten all about a dish for one of the guests - it came when we had askes for it twice - at the same time as the checks came...!!! Without ANY excuse what so ever...!!! No all right at all. This was my last time visiting TICO
I selected Tico-Boston for its location and its menu that could satisfy budgets and food preferences for a variety of folks. We had a several small plates--crispy cauliflower with a chipotle aioli, grilled garlic shrimp with a powerful chili pepper kick not mentioned on the menu, shishito peppers--plus two taco plates, two-textured beef and roasted cauliflower. Overall the food was tasty though the shrimp were swimming a bit in oil and I would have liked to have ordered a milder dish, lighter on the surprise chili.
Since we were gathering for a business meeting (at 5pm on a Monday), I requested a quiet corner, which we discovered doesn't exist. It took about 4-5 requests to turn down the music before one of the staff revealed that the music is outsourced and piped/pumped in from an outside vendor. This is another area where transparency would have been appreciated. Tico-Boston is probably a great meeting place/watering hole for folks who don't mind having to raise their voices. It wasn't the right spot for us though the food overall was pretty good. I would recommend Tico-Boston for that, but not for a business meeting.
Service underwhelms. Went with a group of 8. One of the eight had to wait 7 minutes longer than everyone else to get his burger. There is ZERO value in the tacos. They are way to expensive for the amount of food. Overall the food is not craveable, just average.
Might be better for drinks.
Food was either incredibly salty or very bland. Food was disappointing. Service was mediocre, it wasn’t busy but drinks and apps took forever so our meals came before we had finished the apps and our drinks came just a few minutes before the meal.
The food isn’t good.
Unfortunately had a really terrible experience. Main plates took an hour to arrive, and when they did two people in our party were missing food. The food that did arrive was missing various sauces, etc. when we politely notified the waitress that one member of our party didn’t have his lunch at all, she brought over the check but no food. . Meanwhile the manager was refilling our waters and didn’t ask us if we were okay despite clearly noticing that we were missing food. He started clearing the table as the food finally arrive for the member of our party and promptly took away his fork! He ended up comping our appetizers but the experience was an utter and complete disaster. Manager was entirely unhelpful and seemingly unwilling to take responsibility for the gross error of the kitchen/staff. Will never be eating there again and would advise all to avoid it.
We loved this place. Really good services and great food. Thanks!
Underwhelming food. Underwhelming service. Poor value.
Food and drinks were very mediocre and pretty highly priced. Service was also pretty weak. Took about 20 minutes before I had to go ask someone if anyone was assigned to our table. We then had someone come by, but it was very fast/what's your order/disappear for a while kind of service.
Nothing special and not worth the price.
Honestly, I was disappointed this time around. I think the lunch menu lacks creativity and is certainly not as good as dinner. There used to be a better variety. I had recommended Tico as I've always had a good experience. This was my last lunch visit.
From my last dinner visit, the cocktail program needs some work.
Our waitress was amazing! So kind and made our night lovely!
We went for a Saturday evening date and sat outdoors, and really enjoyed ourselves. The burger was a little hard to eat because it was so juicy, but absolutely outstanding taste-wise! The brussel sprouts had the perfect kick to them as well. Will definitely be coming back for more!
Lovely place. Food was good although a tad on the pricey side.
It was a Thursday after a long weekend so it was quiet.
We sat outside which was very nice for 8pm in the evening.
Service was great and I loved practicing my Spanish with Jackie.
Amazing food and drinks, service is slower so not a place in a rush
Lovely summer day with drinks on the patio
Fabulous food, service, and atmosphere!
Larger parties take priority. Had two events occurring during my time there and I barely saw my waiter. Food was decent, not for business meetings.
I made a 5:00 reservation 4 days in advance for dinner for two. When I arrived I was told there was only bar seating because they were holding an event that evening at 5:00. I didn't expect this. Bar was super loud.
Delicious food, beautiful ambience. Great art around the restaurant, many types of tables. Drinks were divine!
My party enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Our server needed work - she would get one bit of information from us then leave and not come back for ten minutes at a time. Once the food arrived, she only checked on us once. And, at one point, we didn’t see her for over 25 minutes.
Drinks were not good. They weren’t that busy, but staff was playing around a lot. Most of the food was good but not worth the price. It’s tapas and small portions. You could go to a better restaurant and eat better food for the same price. Restaurant was totally empty when we got there at 8 pm.
We always have the best meals at Tico. Their menu items recently changed, taking away some of our favorite dishes, but also made some wonderful new additions. One of the new additions that we really enjoyed were the Papas Bravas - smoked red potatoes with a light cheese sauce - incredible flavor!! Just note that they are also quite filling when looking at the rest of your tapas roster ;) In addition to great food, ambiance is always great and the Blood Orange Margarita is always perfect!
Excellent food. Great drinks. Great staff! Everything about our visit was amazing!
Great food, service was meh.
Food came out wrong, the food is very mediocre once we got served. They need to clean up and rebrand as it feels tired.
Tico was a really great place to go and unwind with a few good friends. The atmosphere and mysic was great. The decor- super and so was the food.
We were seated in the high tips in the bar area due to a private party in the main restaurant. Food was delicious and service was good. Cabbage salad is a must and any of the tacos are delicious. We had a mix up and received cauliflower instead of shrimp tacos (one bite revealed they were not shrimp but super tasty! Maybe next time) They fixed it quickly and brought us the correct item. Everyone enjoyed the food! One of our favorites in the Back Bay!
The staff is always incredibly accommodating and kind, and the food is fantastic!
Went to dinner with my sister and her husband. We got a few small plates. To start, We got the nachos to start which were quite good. We shared the duck quesadilla which was quite good. After that everything was rather mediocre. I got the fried chicken tacos which were ok; not great. Additionally, I got the Mac and cheese which was again good but not the best Mac and cheese I’ve ever had. I should also mention that we got a pitcher of the pineapple coconut margarita which was rather meh.
It’s a decent place but the bill was quite expensive and I don’t see the value. I don’t mind paying for a great meal but I’d rather spend my money elsewhere. There are too many good places in Boston that do what the lay do but better.
The waitress was courteous and the atmosphere was nice, but the food wasn't very tasty at all. The shrimp tacos were incredibly bland and the guac tasted like it had come out of a bag. Definitely not worth the price.
The food was pretty good, except the beef had a weird crunch to it. There were two disappointments.
We asked whether getting a margarita pitcher qualified us for the Cinco de Mayo special of $3 beef tacos, we were told yes, but were charged full price.
Also, when I pay almost $30 for 3 tacos, I am expecting this to be a full meal, 3 small shells, 3 table spoons of beef, and 3 slices of radishes.
Ridiculously horrible value. Would recommend against eating there.
Modern Mexican taco restaurant. Cauliflower tacos were great. Drinks average
Food was beyond amazing. Service was not equal to the food.
Food and drinks were average. Waitress was distant and unaware. She did not seem to be in the game.
Loved the music, ambience, painted walls in the bathroom! Staff was very friendly and service-oriented. Would have liked a few more choices on the menu, but food was very good! We’ll be back!
Best food we had while in Boston.
Everything tastes so good! Even the wine list is wonderful.
Went for lunch. Was *very* busy and seemed understaffed. Our waiter was very good, when we could get his attention. Had to ask for water refills multiple times and waited for a while before anyone came to greet us after being seated.
Food was good.
There is a major construction project going on literally right outside the window we were seated next to. Not enjoyable listening to the construction and having the workers right outside the window.
Will go back, but expect better.
Good food, great ambiance! Service was fast and they accommodated our large group very well.
Good food. Great drinks. Slow service.
