Tico Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I were in Boston for the weekend to watch our son race at BU. Tico was a block from our hotel and we always enjoy the variety of eating tapas. We were not disappointed in the food, which was outstanding, creative and reasonably priced. The restaurant's large bar area was crowded with 20 somethings enjoying a Valentines Day fundraiser so the noice level was extremely high. Not sure if this occurs on a regular Saturday night but we will not hesitate to return and see.
We had a business lunch here this week and although the staff and the service was great but the food was just average. Two of us had tacos plates and were less than impressed. The flour tortillas served with them were like eating cold cardboard. It would have been nice if they had warmed or grilled them before serving. Portion size was rather small too given the price point. My colleague said shrimp salad was good but a bit ordinary and uninspired. The restroom was so filthy we had to mention it to the host.
I've been to Tico several times, and it never disappoints! I've been there on a date, to celebrate birthdays, girls night out, and each time everyone has loved it. The food is excellent as are the drinks! The service is not as consistent, as I've had servers that were exceptional, and others that were less engaged and seemed rushed. But I will continue to go to Tico and look forward to future meals/drinks, as my overall experience each time has been quite enjoyable.
Rude waiter. Felt the need to lecture us about the difference between Hispanic and Latino. Which had nothing to do with the question asked AND made no difference. Also described a dish in detail AFTER telling us they didn't have any. Waited 20min after finishing dessert to get the check. Food was good, though.
Decided to try this place because the menu looked interesting. I was seated and waited and waited and waited, I was at the point of getting up and walking out when someone came over and asked if I had been helped. The food was good but not timed to arrive properly. I was in the middle of my appetizer as they brought over the main course. I can't recommend and will not be back again.
Food is delicious, several small plates and taps style dishes to share. Plates are spicy and made with authentic South American flare. Everything we tried was delicious and each dish had a unique flavor profiles setting Tico apart from other restaurants. Would definitely recommend.
Waitress was great, hostess stand was awful. Didn't want to seat us a little early, didn't let us know when table was ready, booked us as a "no show" on Open Table when we decided to stay/eat at the bar area. Not sure why there is that attitude, restaurant was less than half full...
Underwhelming...I ordered a margarita and it was in a tall water glass, no salt rim. Service was fair--waiter was not familiar with the menu, and seemed like he was rushing us out, which was weird as we were there at 5:30 on a weekday and there was only one other table with people! Dessert was never offered, but at that point we were pretty ready to go.
Had the most amazing night there tonight. Our server, Amanda, was adorable. Food was amazing. Every recommendation was on point. Wine was reasonably priced. Everyone from the host, to the food runners (and our server obviously) were so sweet, and friendly, and amiable. Michael Schlow's restaurants are so amazing and warm and friendly. I'd give tonight 6 stars if I could!!! Thanks TICO!!
My friends and I dined here on a Tuesday night and ordered the "Kind of Hungry" option, which came with seven individual dishes and more than filled us up! Each dish was unique and delicious. We are so happy we ate at Tico and feel like we got great value from the "Kind of Hungry" dish!
I've walked by this place dozens of times, and every time thought, "I need to try out Tico." We finally did and were happy we did. We were in a bit of a hurry to get to a show at the Wilbur but had interesting cocktails, apps, and mains well inside of an hour without feeling rushed. And everything was good. The guacamole tasting was very interesting and delicious. Service was really good; at the table frequently but not hovering. And they kept our water glasses full, which I always appreciate!
I have eaten here many times and the food is usually excellent but today it was lackluster - little flavor, food that should have been cooked was underdone and cold. Always a problem here is the noise level- recorded music is always too loud- on this day there was live music which was way too loud. We like to have conversation at restaurant meals and we could neither hear nor be heard
I wanted to love this place because it was referred to us by a friend. Upon entering the Boston eatery, the ambiance and the menu all seemed to point to a thumbs up experience. Even the cocktail menu had an enticing Maple Syrup Margarita that managed to prevent me from ordering my usual glass of wine before dinner . That's when the bough of the "Happy Happy Joy Joy" tree started to break. After the first couple of sips from the Maple Margarita, my palate was desperately longing for the taste of maple, but unfortunately, there was none to be found. The Maple beverage was really no more than a very sweet traditional Margarita. I started to miss my glass of Pinot Noir like the deserts miss the rain. But then came the salads...a much needed diversion. To my dismay, the salads came drenched in olive oil, to the point where the weight from the oil made the salad as limp as sleeping bizkit. Unfortunately the heavy hand didn't stop there. Our Quesadillas were floating on a river of grease and even our server nearly threw us an anchor! The manager could not have been nicer though. She seemed slightly embarrassed when she asked us if she could get us something else. At that point I was so hungry my belly thought my throat had been cut, so I politely asked, "How about the phone number to the restaurant across the street pleases!" She politely laughed and we bee-lined to the exit sign!
I have dined at Tico's several times and love the fact that it is very welcoming. It is large enough to take a late reservation or even a walk in, which is rare in Boston. I think that the menu has excellent options and can be a lot of fun for folks who like to share food. There are a good variety of options. I strongly recommend.
Fantastic food, great service, wonderful ambience. We enjoyed the incredible treatment we received, the great seat by the window for our large group of 8, and the amazing small plates. I'd been to the Tico Washington DC and loved it - and Tico boston is equally incredible
