Tico, Michael Schlow's award-winning venture, located at 222 Berkely St (corner of St James) is casual, fun, inviting, energized and energizing. The restaurant has a personal, somewhat eclectic, "found" feel, with lots of reclaimed wood and unusual pieces. Perfect for friends that want to share cool cocktails, plates of tasty, sometimes spicy food, while listening to great music, in a fast, uncomplicated restaurant that provides knowledgeable, quick, playful service.
The restaurant has an open kitchen with 6 stools right on the counter to watch all the action. It also boasts a large bar, dining room for 100, a chef's table, and a lush outdoor courtyard that features a fireplace, dining for 50, as well as some "soft" seating near the fire if guests wish to be outside for a drink or snack.

The service was the worst I've experienced in Boston. We were there for a business dinner and wow, we will never go back.

Nachos were delicious, as were the fried chicken tacos. The garlic shrimp was too oily, and the chicken wings were one note - too much chili pepper, not enough other flavors. Service was efficient. Blood orange margaritas were excellent. No problems with reservations or seating.

Not the Tico of past visits. I was so excited to go. The food was good not fantastic and the service was good not fantastic. I was impressed with the servers ability to take a large order without taking notes and get it all right, simply wished she would have come by more frequently. The food also came out fairly quick.

As soon as I entered I felt the vibe and wanted to dance! The excitement honestly ended there. After being seated we realized there was only one waiter in charge of around 8 tables... let’s just say he was not very attentive. In terms of food, we ordered the classic nachos, the patatas bravas, the tuna ceviche, the spicy chicken quesadilla, and the crispy chicken tacos. All of the food was below average. The only thing that saved it was the dessert. We ordered the tres leches and were extremely impressed! The passion fruit sorbet that came with it was out of this world! All in all if you are looking for a fun place to start out your night, you may enjoy Tico.

We have always loved Tico. Couple of thoughts:

1. The Fried Manchego has been removed from menu. A true shame.

2. My entree order (tacos) came over very late after my companion’s food. Had to keep asking.

Amazing food! Service was a bit slow even though the restaurant was not filled. Took a while to get someone to take our drink order. Once that was completed, service was attentive.

The entrees as well as the margaritas were blandly unimpressive. We had great hope for this menu and looked forward to trying it out but we won't be back. The server was good and certainly trying his best but the place is uninspired.

Beyond disappointed with the dinner and service. It was NYE and I had originally requested a reservation for 9:45 which was cancelled because of the inconvenience to the staff. I then rescheduled for a 8:30 dining. After being seated our server didn’t inform us until we were ready to order about the extended wait time on food. We received items we didn’t order, and many things were sold out. Patatas Bravas, a Spaniard staple of tapas, sold out on NYE?! Not even the last to be seated?! Our garlic shrimp were far over cooked, and we were never asked by our server how our food was, or had plates cleared. In addition, our server didn’t come to us until the last call for food asking if we wanted to add anything else. Half of the order didn’t come, and other half they didn’t have. Eventually we were able to make a certain substitution, but definitely not returning. Tico had a great run when it was good, now it’s time to move on.

Stopped in at 4:30 on New Years Eve with kids ages 4 and 2 on the way from Copley ice sculptures to Frog Pond ice skating performance and kids fireworks.

Super nice and helpful waitstaff. But seemed like a lot of difficulty to get the simple order correct on the tiny menu.

Fried fish tacos were excellent. Beef barbacoa tacos were also good but not amazing. $44 got us a “pitcher” of literally two margaritas each.

Prices seemed fairly exorbitant for the quality and quantity of food and drinks served. However the wait staff was excellent and the ambience / atmosphere was a great mix of comfortable and cool. Hey

Tico has changed. Gone are the days of the beautiful fried manchego cheese and best shishito peppers in Boston. Everything was mediocre and spicy - as if to conceal the lack of flavor throughout. The margaritas were undrinkable, unless you go for the sour mix. And the place was basically empty on a Friday night. Skip it.

Tico used to be an upscale romantic mexican/southwestern restaurant. The kind of place you would take a date. Taking cues from hiphop culture, and night-life bar/eateries, it has been transformed to a performance space for DJs. Food was OK but it mpossible to have a conversation or enjoy the meal.

I will start by saying the service was excellent, and the ambiance was fun and great for an evening out. All and all though the food was lacking. Of the small plates and main dishes I have to say the chips and guacamole is the only item we would order again. The nachos had a fast food feel and the calamari was under fried. Where I wouldn’t say it was a bad night out, we wouldn’t go again.

Had a ladies' night with 5 friends at Tico on a Saturday night in November. The ambiance was warm and inviting with a variety of patrons both young and old. Initially service was very attentive with drinks coming out quickly and the waitress checking multiple times on our readiness to order food. Food was delicious, we tried a number of options on the "Small Plates" section of the menu and the mac n cheese was the crowd favorite. However it seems that after a large party arrived, our table may have become less of a priority. The second round of drinks (margaritas) had too much lime and when we asked for another pitcher and to have our food packed up, we were instead brought the bill and the food was cleared away. Not sure if our waitress was overwhelmed or if there was some confusion in communication - the energy got very lively towards the end of our meal and it might have been hard to hear. All in all the food was certainly worth the trip and all of us were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable check!

Tico has delicious and unique food options, for an affordable price for a young adult/working profession! Big inside with lots of seating and groovy lighting. Would recommend for a dinner with friends or a casual date night!

We went to the restaurant to celebrate a special event and asked if they could help make it special. They ended up surprising us with campaign and desert on them which made the evening so special. Our server was wonderful and he really made the night extra special!

We went to Tico with an OpenTable gift card and I was disappointed with the food. The guacamole and shrimp ceviche were bland. The guacamole came out so fast, we had to wait a while for our drinks, and we had to wait even longer when we ordered a second round. The restaurant was not busy so there really wasn’t an excuse for waiting so long for drinks. On the other hand the food came out too fast. We ordered the paella for dinner which was good but it was really the only think we enjoyed. If I didn’t have a gift card I would have been upset by the quality and price of the food.

I selected Tico-Boston for its location and its menu that could satisfy budgets and food preferences for a variety of folks. We had a several small plates--crispy cauliflower with a chipotle aioli, grilled garlic shrimp with a powerful chili pepper kick not mentioned on the menu, shishito peppers--plus two taco plates, two-textured beef and roasted cauliflower. Overall the food was tasty though the shrimp were swimming a bit in oil and I would have liked to have ordered a milder dish, lighter on the surprise chili.
Since we were gathering for a business meeting (at 5pm on a Monday), I requested a quiet corner, which we discovered doesn't exist. It took about 4-5 requests to turn down the music before one of the staff revealed that the music is outsourced and piped/pumped in from an outside vendor. This is another area where transparency would have been appreciated. Tico-Boston is probably a great meeting place/watering hole for folks who don't mind having to raise their voices. It wasn't the right spot for us though the food overall was pretty good. I would recommend Tico-Boston for that, but not for a business meeting.

Service underwhelms. Went with a group of 8. One of the eight had to wait 7 minutes longer than everyone else to get his burger. There is ZERO value in the tacos. They are way to expensive for the amount of food. Overall the food is not craveable, just average.
Might be better for drinks.

Food was either incredibly salty or very bland. Food was disappointing. Service was mediocre, it wasn’t busy but drinks and apps took forever so our meals came before we had finished the apps and our drinks came just a few minutes before the meal.

Unfortunately had a really terrible experience. Main plates took an hour to arrive, and when they did two people in our party were missing food. The food that did arrive was missing various sauces, etc. when we politely notified the waitress that one member of our party didn’t have his lunch at all, she brought over the check but no food. . Meanwhile the manager was refilling our waters and didn’t ask us if we were okay despite clearly noticing that we were missing food. He started clearing the table as the food finally arrive for the member of our party and promptly took away his fork! He ended up comping our appetizers but the experience was an utter and complete disaster. Manager was entirely unhelpful and seemingly unwilling to take responsibility for the gross error of the kitchen/staff. Will never be eating there again and would advise all to avoid it.
