Open and inviting. Innovative and energetic. Playful surprises are found throughout the menu, as well as the restaurant itself. The menu has been designed to give you options, is perfect for sharing and you are encouraged to order however the mood strikes you, so don’t be shy about ordering more of… Well, anything. Salads and pastas created with greens and veggies from the rooftop garden should please locavores. While burger lovers will appreciate the balance of the house grind that blends brisket, short rib and sirloin. Between bites be sure to take a look at the beautiful, “Living Wall”. A wall of plants and herbs living and growing inside the restaurant itself. Take a peak at the “Peninsula Room”, an homage to the Hotel Benjamin Franklin located directly in front the exhibition kitchen.
The beverage program takes a backseat to none. Eight rotating craft beers, hand-crafted cocktails, and a first-class wine program.

On the up side, the space is nice. However, inattentive staff dressed like they were going to be cleaning horse stalls and really disappointing food...I mean how can any one completely screw up scrambled eggs?! We won’t be back and will tell anyone who asks to definitely avoid. Too bad, San Mateo could use a decent breakfast place and Three is 100% not one.

My husband were at Three for breakfast. Food was delicious, lots to choose from on the menu. Our waitress and staff were friendly and great. Will go back to try dinner.

Wait staff was trying to turn the table over very quickly. We were still trying to finish up our drinks and brunch but they kept coming over and brought the bill over as well while we were still chatting and finishing up. I was also disappointed how I asked the waiter to write no capers on my smoked salmon Benedict but instead it came with no hollandaise sauce. Also towards the end of our meal when they kept coming up to us, we were only at our table for like 45 minutes max.

We had a great experience here. Awesome food and great service. My boyfriend arrived early and was seated right away and offered a drink. Our server was great and the food came out fast and tasted delicious. Would absolutely come back again.

The restaurant was so loud that we could not hear one another speak. We were a table of five and could only hear the person next to one another. Very frustrating.

Wow, they have gone down a notch or two since previous times we have eaten here. My wife ordered a lamb burger and it arrived with no garnish, over cooked, small, on a large plate by itself. I ordered a pawn mushroom pasta. You have to wash porcini mushrooms very carefully -- well they didn't so my pasta was full of sand. Beet salad was very good as was my son's burger. Waiter was fairly clueless, offered no amends.

Was here to celebrate a birthday. Service was just right not intrusive but came by just enough to make sure our water glasses were filled and we didn't need anything else. Food was delicious and servings were big enough where we had leftovers. Would definitely come back here.

The pastas we had was nice and chewy and quite tasty. However the fried chicken was poorly done with lots of batter but dry pieces of chicken inside. Kentucky fried chicken tastes so much better and a fraction of the cost. The service was excellent, but the food left much to be desired. I wouldn't come back again for dinner with all the other choices there are in downtown San Mateo.

We got there right at the right time, 10:30am on a Sunday for brunch. Three was a little quite when we got there and then the crowds started to roll in! Very accommodating with our little one, food was ok, service was ok, ambiance was ok, we will most likely be back. Nothing bad to say.

First time dining at Three... Food choices were good, the Seafood Risotto was excellent as was the Hamburger. The waiter was a bit of a mystery because he could explain how great the hamburger might be - because he doesn't eat meat. Further, he wouldn't bring over another server to answer the questions we were asking about. Other than that oddity, I will be back.

Service was attentive and helpful with the menu (first time visitors) for our after work dinner. Loved the wild mushroom stogies, the salmon dish and the hoho for dessert. Ambiance is lively, family-friendly.

Took a bridal group here for brunch after dress fitting. It was close by and we could walk without reparking car in downtown San Mateo. The service was erratic, 4 orders were brought out in a timely fashion, and the remaining two took some time, despite the fact that both orders were nothing more than 2 eggs scrambled. The in house music system was very loud and we were seated under the speaker. It was so loud it was difficult to hear each other during the meal.

I had a wonderful experience there for a Sunday brunch however tried it twice for dinner and both times it was a huge flop. Went back the second time to be fair wondering if it was just a bad night. The front desk was indifferent to almost a rude feel, the food was very disappointing but the waiter was delightful.

The service was mediocre at best. When they brought the food out, they just put plates down anywhere did not even ask people what they had. We were a party of 7 and had to pass the plates around. 3 of us ordered eggs benedict and it was ice cold. The manager heard me and said can I get you another order (We were already half way through our food because our waiter never came by to ask how everything was) and declined. Literally as we were getting ready to leave, the eggs came out again. We came down from Sonoma County to take my daughter out for her bday. I expected way better service and food in San Mateo; you can get much better in Sonoma and Napa. Would not recommend at all.

disappointed w/ the waffle w/ bacon and chicken- waffle seemed like it’s been sitting around for an hour before getting on my table; pomegranate lemonade was disgustingly sweet and jar was sticky

We always enjoy three restaurant. The food is delicious and there are always seasonal specials, and the staff members are friendly and helpful.

I highly recommend Three Restaurant to anyone who knows good food.

New Years eve. We had not been to this local restaurant in at least a year. Remembered it as having some good small plates. We ordered 2 apps, calamari and the Maple Chipotle chicken wings. Wings were outstanding, Calamari was pretty good...
3 meals; Chicken Apple salad, pulled pork and squash and the hanger steak. All were very good. We were just hoping for something decent since we made reservations at the last minute. 3 was not my first choice. However, we had a great experience, good service, great food in a really cozy spot. Only ding was for the lack of Champaign by the glass, especially on New Years eve.
We will be back!

Ordered chicken waffle and deep fried French toast. Chicken was just okay while waffle was not tasty. Was expecting a fresh crispy waffle: however, the waffle was not crispy and not fresh at all. Was the worst fried chicken waffle I have ever had. Deep fried french toast was very oily but since it is deep fried, it was what I was expected. Inside ambience is great and servers are nice.
