Thanksgiving Day buffet food was excellent. There was confusion as where the line started so the wait in line was long. The carving station needed 2 people to serve the delicous meats, wait was too too long.
Our family of 7 loved the variety of yummy traditional Thanksgiving food as well as the cold seafood .
Traditional Thanksgiving food (turkey, meats, potatoes and gravy, dressings real good. other stuff just
OK. Desserts were good. Buffet needs to be set up better. Need separate lines for salads, appetizers, etc. and another line for entrees. By the time you get through a lot of your food is cold.
We went to Thistles and Thyme for our Thanksgiving meal. It was terrible from start to finish. Let me explain... we made reservations several weeks before thanksgiving. We get to the restaurant and we are stuck in a line for 45 minutes with people who also had reservations and people who just walked up without reservations!
We were definitely overcharged for our meal. If you want to call it that... the food was awful... Turkey was not a turkey it was a turkey loaf... the tri tip you couldn’t even cut, let alone chew!
It was hard to figure out where the end of the line was to get started at the buffet. When you asked questions no one really knew how to answer your questions. It was a really disappointing experience, which is so sad because it was our Thanksgiving memory for 2019. We will definitely not be back. One last thing ... we drove an hour in snow to eat at this place.
We enjoyed Thanksgiving at Thistle and Thyme. Even though they were so busy due to the Thanksgiving crowds our experience was great. It seemed well planned and organized. The turkey ice sculpture was impressive and the food was great. I was impressed by the variety! Will be eating here again near year
Thanksgiving dinner
I was very pleased with the Dinner, service, hospitality they showed us. The only gripe I had was being seated in the Atrium where people lined up to pay and you had to carry your plate of food to your table by ways of splitting the people line. I will be going back next year if they can resolve the check in to pay procedures Thank You Kim
The food and dinner servers were great! The seating arrangements were very poor. The line to get in was running right through the dinning tables. Very noisy and disruptive. If they redo the line arrangements, I plan to go again next year.
Everything was very good but the menu was so limited. I was the one in our group of 7 that recommended Thistle & Thyme and was rather embarrassed that they had so little to choose from.
However, my husband and I are having our Thanksgiving Day dinner at the T&T so I'll reserve my overall
judgement until then. The atmosphere was great for our group, we could hear each other talk.
Spotty service, but pleasant enough (although our waiter disappeared at the end—not to be seen again). The food, from start to finish, was rather disappointing. Cold mashed potatoes, steak and salmon without the slightest hint of seasoning (and I mean none whatsoever). Steak and salmon are easy, so the fact that they were poorly executed was a real disappointment. SLC has so many better options. We won’t be back
The staff was very friendly, but unfortunately did not know the menu or the restaurant space. At the end of the evening, our server was not even able to tell us where the restroom was located. Cocktails were small in portion, and the Spicy Cucumber was straight alcohol with pieces of possibly cilantro floating in it. The food while not terrible is unfortunately forgettable.
This is an undiscovered gem for Sunday brunch. Great setting, great music.
Father’s Day brunch. Band was great, atmosphere was good. Service was not good. Slow and not attentive. Servers were in watching tv. Had to go in to get server to get our drinks, water refils and to take our food order. Food was really good. Would be great for more live music if they put in a stage.
Great Father’s Day brunch. Excellent food and atmosphere. The live music on the patio was a hit! This is my new favorite brunch spot.
The Sunday brunch is a hidden gem. LIve music, located in a lovely area surrounded by trees, good food reasonably priced. We'll be back.
Went here for mother's day. The ambiance was great. The food was not so great for the price. Some items had been sitting for some time. I was also discouraged that we had to pay for water and soda. That was extremely discouraging. I would expect to pay for mixed drinks/alcohol but to pay for soda and/or water is not acceptable to me.
Best. Brunch. Ever. Seriously. We went for Mother’s Day and the food was awesome. The patio, the lawn games, the live music, all of it was awesome!!! This is absolutely the best brunch spot in town!
Dry good for a Mother’s Day brunch. Food was good. Ambiance better. The music was good
I made reservations for 9. They were not prepared for us. Seemed surprise by the number. Put us in the middle of room. Certainly not fair for other dinners.
Fair for a hotel restaurant. The food was a hit on a couple of dishes and a miss on others, but the presentation and the service were very good. The lamb meatball appetizer was a miss, the meat was dry and lacked seasoning, but the sauce around it was great. The one dish that was truly wonderful was the Brussel Sprouts, perfect seasoning and texture, we would highly recommend them - hit! The beet salad was also very good. The steak was cooked to order and nicely seasoned.
The shrimp details were left on. Chicken and waffles were super sweet and not the best I've had. Service was great and quiet ambient. Ok for a hotel restaurant.
The daily chef specials are excellent and better than the food on the regular menu.
Although we had made a reservation for our large party, they weren't prepared for us. One end of the table we sat at was never cleaned. We waited a long time for coffee. The menu was a completely different menu from what we had seen online. "Grapefruit juice" wasn't grapefruit juice, but clearly was a sugary "grapefruit juice drink." Some people were happy with their food. The omelettes were very small, definitely not "3 eggs," and came only with a very small portion of hashbrowns (about 4 bites). Most of the plate the omelette was served on was empty. The regular, less expensive 2-egg + bacon breakfast was considerably more food.
The meatballs are phenomenal along with the grilled cheese! Definitely elevated comfort food!
One of the best hotel restaurants that I've ever dined at. I don't often enjoy eating in a hotel, but Thistle & Thyme overachieved on both the food and service. Our first night in town and it was nice to enjoy a quiet dinner of comfort food.
Under staffed. No one greeted us for at least 20-25 minutes. Manager served us and we felt like we were putting him out. Hummus was watery and runny. Staff wasn’t very professional when it came to the way they acted on the floor. The had a bloody MMA fight on the t.v., and at the same time offering a fix 4 course Valentines Day dinner. Just wasn’t my favorite experience.
they need to do something about the adult beverage service. watching the servers literally run the stairs with drinks is both crazy and takes time away from serving customers. great restaurant and great food but they need to invest in a remodel. this is a marriott property.
The place is quite nice and the view of the lawn is pleasant. The steak & frites and the chicken & waffles were both delicious. Our server was very nice, but overworked and flustered while we were there on Valentines.
First off, I missed the fact that Thistle & Thyme is located in the Marriott Hotel...in the basement. Had I known this before making a reservation (which wasn't necessary as there were only two other tables seated when we arrived) I would have chosen a different restaurant. Our server, Andrew, was great! He was friendly and attentive but not overwhelming. They were out of the soda my partner ordered and I ordered a Fever Tree Ginger Beer but it was actually Cock & Bull...these two ginger beers taste nothing alike so I decided on something else. My partner & I shared the lamb meatballs to start which were delicious but I found a very fine hair in one meatball. I ordered the 'Health Nut' salad and my partner ordered the shortrib grilled cheese. On the menu the salad was described as having a mix of kale & arugula but instead it was spring mix. Also, I'm pretty sure the dressing was Newman's or something similar which isn't uncommon for corporate restaurants but I was hoping for something better. My partner's grilled cheese wasn't great either. The bread (garlic Texas toast which wasn't mentioned on the menu) was slightly crunchy on the outside but totally soggy on the inside. This was a date night so I'll admit that my expectations were high, maybe higher than they should have been but we really didn't enjoy the experience. We definitely will not be eating at Thistle & Thyme in the future.
We had been to the hotel where the restaurant is located for a Christmas party, and the menu looked good, so we gave it a try. Boy was it worth it! From the very professional server who took our entire food and drink order without writing anything down, to the excellent food and timing of service, Thistle & Thyme was a very "un-Utah" like experience. The food offerings were varied, and the small plates were spot on. Shishito peppers, candied bacon and so many others we have to return and try. My wife had the shrimp and grits, which compared to what you would get in NOLA. I had the short rib pappardelle, which was superbly seasoned and the pasta done to perfection. Great wine list, nice custom cocktails. And all of this for about 25-30% less than one would pay for lesser food and service in downtown Salt Lake.
Our second visit to Thistle&Thyme, and it won’t be our last. We started with the chef’s deviled eggs: Five generous halves stuffed with a flavorful and unctuous purèe of yolks and butter, and garnished with a little heap of American sturgeon caviar and a touch of smoked sea salt. The flatiron steak salad had a fine mixture of tender greens, cukes, tomatoes and avocado. The beef itself is nicely cooked to order, well-seasoned and sliced thin for extra tenderness. We tried a special: Crèpes filled with tender chopped shrimp, julienned and sautèed vegetables and creamy sauce with a hint of tomato.
Service was attentive but not intrusive, servers are knowledgeable about the menu and techniques, and they contribute to the overall pleasurable experience.
Good comfort food, good quiet atmosphere. A little cool temperature probably because it is open to the hotel's atrium. Ideal for holiday meal with small group of family members.
The meals were good for a night in at the Marriott. Quite large so we had some g
This is a hotel restaurant located sort of out of the way in the University of Utah Research Park. We went to a special Thanksgiving Day buffet. Overall it was a good meal, but it was a mixed experience. There was a quite variety of dishes besides the traditional turkey. The turkey was a boneless roast. It was dry and not particularly flavorful. The roast Tri-tip was excellent, however. The accompanying horseradish sauce was about as bland as I have ever tasted. Arby's has better in the plastic packets. The buttermilk mashed potatoes could have been mashed a little more for my taste. The stuffing was soggy, but nicely seasoned. The sweet potatoes were a runny mess with marshmallow. I didn't try them. The bourbon butternut squash was excellent. Another high point was the huge bowl of large cocktail shrimp and mussels. There were crab legs also. The green beans were better than average, not overcooked. The roasted brussels sprouts were great. I enjoyed the butter lettuce with pears, roasted walnuts, and blue cheese salad There was also a good looking classic Cesare. . There were a lot of other offerings, notably a mack and cheese bar where a server mixed in whatever additions you requested., rolls, deserts--including gluten free, fruit salad, hummus, etc. Service was indifferent. We had to fetch our own water from a table across the room.
We went to the Thanksgiving buffet. It was amazing, food very delicious. The make your own mac and cheese bar brought my 17 year old son to tears several times it was so good. Someone forgot to update the schedule on OpenTable for the holiday, fortunately they called me Wednesday asking if I'd like to come in earlier, since they were closing at 5PM, which is when OpenTable had the reservations starting.
We were there for their Thanksgiving buffet. There was an abundance of food; great variety. They planned well for a large crowd and didn't have to stand in lines. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would have liked a little more ambiance and coziness, but realize that's difficult when you are being served and eating in a huge conference room space.
My wife and I visited their Thanksgiving buffet (available only on holidays), and enjoyed it much. Very efficient servers and bussers reminded me of the restaurant dance scene from "Hello, Dolly." Turkey (of course) was tender, ham, tri-tip roast beef, salmon (a little fishy), sides, killer cranberry sauce, salads, pasta bar with sauces made to order by a sous-chef, cold cuts, and of course a dessert table with a selection of gluten-free desserts. Price typical for holiday buffets, but half price for senior citizens. Yay!
We had Thanksgiving buffet dinner there. First experience at this restaurant. We were absolutely delighted with the fantastic array of food offerings. It couldn't have been better. The staff removed empty plates quickly and were very personable. The fact that senior citizens paid only half was a tribute to the restaurant's dignified offering of not only fantastic food, but affordability for the senior segment. Thank you very kindly. We shall see you more often now that we have experienced this wonderful place.
Loved the ice turkey~ The Mac & Cheese Station was great! The Tri-Tip was my favorite! Ham came in 2nd!
The setting was quiet but the food was average. My party of 4 was just the 2nd table with people in the restaurant and the food took forever to get out. it was average food and not worth a 2nd visit.
The chef introduced himself and his food was wonderful!
