If you're curious about our name, it comes from the legend of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. As the story goes, Babe had an appetite as big as Bunyan himself and is rumored to have eaten 30 bales of hay a day.
Like our restaurant's big blue spirit animal, we're a pack of people that lives to eat and drink. We're endlessly in love with the Midwest and its connection to seasonal ingredients grown close to home. It's what inspires our menu and our team. And it's what inspires us as we tell our own story with the flavors and spirits of the Midwest.
Great food as always. Service is a little slow, but the food makes it worth it.
Our first time here. We had soups, salads, and dessert because we wanted to start with simple meals. The Wedge and Caesar salads were delicious. Possibly the best we’ve had in a long while. The special chicken and fennel soup was tasty. We can’t wait to go back and try more. This just may become our new “go to” place. Highly recommended.
The deep fried deviled eggs were awesome and a must try if you go. The salmon carbonara was very delicious. I am glad we checked it out.
Nice menu with a wide variety of options. Wide variety of drink options, including some creative mocktails. Food and service were good. It's a little loud.
Good food, good service, good place to have a discussion over lunch.
Been here a few times and the food is always great.
Cheese tray and wine delicious!
Walleye lacked flavor and had way too much celery
The food and service were outstanding! We loved everything about this place. If you have a large group request the big wooden table in the back - the perfect space!
The food delivery was slow. But it was an enjoyable time with our family before going to stages. One person in our party was almost done by the time I got my meal. The server was aware of that and apologized and took my meal off the bill.
It was our first time and it all looked so good we couldn't decide. So we tried a variety of things. The Brussel sprouts were divine and the Deviled eggs were amazing - I wish we had ordered more of those. We ended with a bread pudding I couldn't stop eating. Definitely will go back again!
Have been here 2x. Seems understaffed. Food (burgers) over cooked and flavorless. The pickled veggies are tasty. Wings were excellent. Overall good concept, but execution needs some help, and I think it is just that they need more hands to make it all happen. Long waits for poured, non-specialty drinks for example.
Cocktails were horrible and the server had no idea how to handle a table with children. This was our 2nd attempt and I don’t think we’ll be back. 😕
The food appealed to all - from a 4 year old to 74 year old; and the service was great!
Great happy hour, nice atmosphere, loved the food and drinks!
Modern adult place to visit and enjoy good food and drink after work without having to work extra to pay for the relaxation!! Parking in the ramp is so easy! Love the tomato root soup, tacos and flatbread on the happy hour menu as well as the white wine “blend”!!! Will definitively be back!!
This place has much potential! They fall a bit short tho. Most items seem to be made from scratch which is awesome but some things need a little tweaking. We ordered the chicken lettuce cups as an appetizer. U can skip those. Although the chicken chunks had good flavor, it’s just a small bowl (the size of a soup cup) of a few pieces of chicken and tons of big chunks of grilled bell peppers. Then on the side r a few romaine lettuce leaves. Not exactly “lettuce cups”... more like lettuce boats. Just kind of a strange presentation too.My husband got the crispy buffalo chicken sandwich. He wasn’t blown away. The chicken was a little too breaded for his liking. The raspberry sauce on the side was great tho & very unique. Loved that! The fries on the side were good as well. He wanted to order the pork & noodles but the waitress said it wasn’t her favorite... he wished he had gone with that instead! I ordered the grains & greens bowl with chicken. Actually very good. I’m on a health kick right now so it was nice to have a healthier option besides a salad that was good. It was a little spendy but was fresh! Oh,it came with a fried devil egg that was
Our waitress definitely forgot about us & I had to ask an employee walking by to get my husband a beverage after I had already ordered a drink. She kept going to the table right next to us but kept forgetting to come back to us. Then she was very unknowledgeable about the menu. She didn’t know what was in the grains & green bowl. Not what grains they used or if there were peppers in it (although she said she eats that meal every day for lunch). The only verb she seemed to know when asked about specific menu items was... “um it’s good” & she’s say, “I’m not sure what’s in that, let me ask the chef.” Maybe she has an off day or maybe she just has a bad memory? I guess if I were the owner I’d be more specific on the menu items. We will have to try it again sometime & see if it’s better. I really think this place has potential!
Drinks were not very strong. I had three and barely felt anything. At $9 per one would expect better.
Love having this place in Hopkins. The food is interesting and the ingredients are fresh and healthy. Great beer list also. We haven’t had a bad meal yet. My only wish is that they would sell that bacon jam to take home- I’m so addicted! That alone is worth the trip.
I had the walleye, hubby had the salmon, We were both impressed with sides. I had enough to share. enjoyed and will be back. glad I had a reservation it was packed at 6:00 pm I saw alot of people having appetizers and a drink and leaving maybe for a show or movie in town. great place!
Beet salad was wonderful!
It was our first time in and really didn't know what to expect. We came mid-happy hour and were able to start with a $5 appetizer, and $5 draught beers (wide selection). Our dinner selections were sandwiches which came with either their cabin salad or crinkle cut fries. The $ was on par with like establishments, but of course we're "old" and remember prices back in the day...
Food was great! Nice vegetarian options.
The cinnamon roll was enormous, and wonderful!!!
Serve was wonderful! Nice job!
First time customer. The restaurant is very sleek and modern looking, but the furniture is not very comfortable to sit it. Upon entering, the check in was very disorganized and we waiting for 5 minutes until someone even came up to us to set us/get our reservation.
Service was very slow. I think they are significantly understaffed. After our server (finally) came to us, she was very nice and professional, giving us a little background on the restaurant and which items we should consider. They have an extensive beer selection and nice wine list (which I thought was extremely overpriced per glass and for the bottle.)
The food, was great. We all ordered completely different items and the food was brought out promptly, tasted good and was presented nicely. I'm glad we ordered our drinks and food at the same time - with the scarcity of help, it worked out well (I'd suggest that for anyone who goes there.)
I hope they work out their service issues as we'd like to back again.
Food was excellent! Ambiance was modern, but casual. Great for a family breakfast!
I had the short rib sandwich and it was very good. My wife had the pulled pork and it wasn't all that interesting. Salad dressing on the side of my wife's salad had separated with no good way to stir it up in the container provided. Bread pudding was delicious.
Food was excellent!! Wonderful combinations. Options for everyone -- vegetarian, gluten free, as well as for omnivores. Fresh and not your run of the mill menu, yet not so unique that your unadventurous eater can't find something too. Highly recommend it. We will be back!
Love the hot drink... inside sweater. Group of six , five different meals, all outstanding. Favorite Hopkins eatery. We will be back, lunch, dinner... before play, after movie.
Our experience was really great, Quick service. Great Latte! I would be back.
We miss Big 10! It was busy when we got there. In between movies. We found a place at the bar, until our table opened up. Bartender was rude and could not have cared less that we were there. Got seated. Server was nice and food was quickly served. Quality was average at best. I’d go to sit at the bar and have a cocktail before or after the movie next door, and hope the surly bartender isn’t there! Otherwise, food at 819 or wild boar is much better.
Food was ok and a bit over priced.
Loved the food and the service was great. We will be back.
The pork chop dinner with the mushroom risotto hands down the best I have ever had.. my husband had the Walleye and said it was amazing... the blueberry crisp was ok could have had more crisp .. waitress was great... great way to celebrate ...
Waited over an hour for food and the restaurant was not busy. Wait staff and cooks need additional training.
Some gentle suggestions: For a place with a "foodie" menu and vibe, the servers should be much more engaged and on top of things. Add a coat tree or coat hooks or someplace for Minnesotans to put all our coats and scarves and hats. The music is a wee bit "golden oldie" - perhaps play something that came out in the last 10 years? However, the food was AWESOME! Thank you.
I had the crab and it was ok, but nothing over the top. My friend had the beet salad and grain bowl, which also didn't seem that special. They were out of several things and that coupled with the limited menu makes it more challenging. The atmosphere was okay. Our waitress was nice. May go back, but have other places I'd try first.
Food arrived cold. We complained. Hash browns must have been put in microwave because they came back warm and dry. Glasses and some silverware was dirty. Asked for extra napkins. Never got them. My medium burger that was supposed to have some pink in it, had none. The place was not very busy but we felt ignored. I miss the Big Ten.
Convenient and good food and service
Good creative casual menu selectiom.
Food was plentiful and appealing. Anxious to try other menu items. We will return. Sports bar type atmosphere but not too intense or noisy.
We went with a group of 8 people and it was a good experience. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday afternoon. The food was good and I liked the breakfast and lunch options.
