If you're curious about our name, it comes from the legend of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. As the story goes, Babe had an appetite as big as Bunyan himself and is rumored to have eaten 30 bales of hay a day.
Like our restaurant's big blue spirit animal, we're a pack of people that lives to eat and drink. We're endlessly in love with the Midwest and its connection to seasonal ingredients grown close to home. It's what inspires our menu and our team. And it's what inspires us as we tell our own story with the flavors and spirits of the Midwest.
Great restaurant. Dinners were wonderful. Service was very good.
Menu was good and interesting. Large portions.
What would have made it even better: chilled glasses for beer (and if served in a can... offered a glass bs having to ask) and Coke products vs. Pepsi.
Great happy hour menu! Our sever was new but super friendly and seemed very knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the fact that we could talk to each other!
Had snafus with the kitchen running out of one entre and a lengthy delay in receiving our meals, but they made it right by adjusting our bill. Not our past experience with them.
Food was very good. A great place for lunch following a Pen Pals presentation at the library across the street.
Great food in a comfortable setting. Good food choices and excellent service.
Interesting food, friendly staff. I had heard about this place from a friend and was not disappointed.
Wonderful spot in happening Hopkins!
Stopped for dinner. Kids loved their chicken tenders.
Food is great, and the servers are friendly. A nice hidden gem for the Hopkins neighborhood finally. Definitely get the pork chop!
One and done. We have been looking forward to trying 30 bales and it certainly did not meet expectations.
We ordered 2 appetizers; stuffed mushrooms (best thing we had and it didn't have much flavor) and squash/cauliflower (only could taste the pablano). Of the entrees; the salmon sandwich was fishy and not a nice piece of fish (it was like a tuna salad or something) and the worst thing was the pork chop. At best the edible meat was the size of a half dollar with mostly fat/gristle and was clearly over done. Terrible is the best way to describe it.
A bummer, to say the least. Can't recommend 30 bales.
Nice atmosphere, good food selection at reasonable prices. Place was busy, but the noise was very subdued... something you don't see much of these days. You can actually have a conversation! Will definitely be going back.
We went in for a late brunch on a Saturday and while we had reservations, they weren't necessary. Our server was very attentive and helpful. A cute local restaurant with fresh ingredients. I highly recommend the Boozy French Toast and the Giant Cinnamon Roll (shared well among 4 people to start the brunch). The Devilish Eggs were quite tasty and unique. The Bloody Mary had a nice spice to it (I like spice) and smokey taste, I wish it were a bit larger though. Cute decor inside and a nice patio out front. There are a few TVs at the bar inside that can be seen from nearby tables as well.
Great food and atmosphere. Service was excellent. I will be back.
Our server was fabulous!
Loved the fried deviled egg!
Service was very slow as the bartender was serving us at a bar table and would be fulfilling other diners drinks before doing anything for us. She was very pleasant, but we were last on her priority list. I’ve been here before for brunch—which was great. I wasn’t impressed with dinner at all and my husband’s dinner was also lackluster. This is a great location and the atmosphere is fun. They just need better food. The service we had did not seem typical as I looked around the other diners— only those sitting at bar tables. They needed a dedicated server for those tables instead of stretching the bartender too thin.
Fantastic food prepared and served perfectly! Will definitely be back!
Hamburger and cedar plank open face very good. Will not reorder the walleye sandwich since it did not meet expectations for taste, preparation or presentation.
Very good service, nice atmosphere and a very nice night outside sitting on the patio made for a great dining experience, thank you!
I really liked the atmosphere and the wait staff was very knowledgeable about the food and where it came from (local). The steak appetizer was more the size of a taste. Pork tortilla soup was good. Squash and cauliflower appetizer was good also. Decent size too.
It took awhile to get my coffee. Got the wrong plate of food.
We went for Sunday brunch and it was very good. We both enjoyed our breakfast and found the critically important coffee delicious. The genuinely enormous cinnamon roll we shared was amazing! I’m looking forward to trying the bottomless Mimosa next time we go!
Great food and interesting menu. This restaurant has become one of our "go to" places in the area
Birthday. Had cake with candle
Second time to have lunch there. Didn’t disappoint. Will be back again.
Food was quite good. Service was good. Affordable. Two specialty beverages were just a little bland.
Excellent, delicious brunch on the outdoor patio. Very quiet restaurant on a Saturday at noon - no lines, lots of available seating options indoors and outdoors. Unlimited mimosas for $12 (though I only had one delicious single mimosa this time)! After brunch, it was pleasant to visit the shops and historical museum along mainstreet with my parents and fiance. My grandma would call this place and the time our family spent there together hyggeligt!
Pleasantly surprised by the food and dining experience. Really miss Big Ten but we will be back on another date night
The food is absolutely amazing! Love going for brunch. Can't help but always get either the Campers Hash or the french toast. Best french toast I have ever had! It's defiantly the bourbon maple sauce on top that makes it incredible. The staff is always pleasant and considerate. Love the atmosphere!
Tasty food, comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. Easy to get into and has a good beer selection.
It was a quiet evening inside as most of the people chose to eat outside. The waitstaff was knowledgeable, almost to a fault with the historical and food sourcing info. The service was good as was the food generally. The strawberry, rhubarb crisp dessert was a disappointment since is was more mush than crisp.
A great mix of causal with an upscale farm to table menu. Well done.
Celebrated a birthday with a group of 6. Arrived early to get a patio table. A guy who I assumed was a manager was also sort of running the host stand. Could have really used a host constant the amount of people that I watched just stand there even they came in the for without a getting. The bartender was friendly but more interested in talking to the regulars than us. Cocktails were good. Beer list covered the basics but for trying to be local, it lacked much local beer including the brewery down the street. When we were seated, the waitress was friendly, but wasn't terribly quick or very present. She got us incorrect appetizers, but Entrees were very good. Desserts were great as well. Overall a pretty good experience on a nice patio.
Always great food & fantastic service at thirty Bales. Anytime i’m In Hopkins this is the place to go to relax and enjoy delicious healthy food. Highly recommend!!
Always great service and food! Always! One of our favorite restaurants!
Food was excellent and service was attentive- even when it downpoured the staff was accommodating when we moved inside and very friendly. Definitely not the cheapest place but was good overall.
Thirty Bales has a cute story behind its name and tasty offerings!
Drinks were great, food was just “meh”. If I am paying $60 for two people, I would like to be wowed a little bit. We had to wait a long time for our food because there was some malfunction in the kitchen. Our server was great and came to let us know, but when we got the food finally, it just wasn’t very good. Will give it another try, though.
Food took far too long to come out of the kitchen. I noticed that many of the food orders around us we're coming out piecemeal. Salads took longer than Burgers which is ridiculous. I won't be coming back here again.
