My favorite beer was back in stock, in a new variation, which was even better than before. My husband liked his as well. Some of the dishes were as good as ever; i.e. mushrooms on flat bread but some were a disappointment. The shrimp were very small and over cooked. The potatoes were dried out in the patatas bravas. The harvest salad with kale and roast squash was good. The best dish was the roasted delicata squash. Service was wonderful. Still a fun place.
We came in for the Sunday night flamenco, being flamenco musicians ourselves. The flamenco, a singer, a guitarist and two dancers, were of the highest caliber and put on an astounding show. The service was excellent, the food and sangria essentially good but not great.
I under-booked my tables for Sunday night Flamenco but the host and hostess we're incredibly accommodating. The wait staff was also very friendly and helpful. Thank you all for being flexible and helping make my guests comfortable. I come here several times a year, and each time I leave full, and happy.
Organic brewery with great ale/ lager selection. Tapas are super good with a good variety. Lots of gluten free items. Service was really good, our waiter was well versed in the food and beer selections and made some very nice recommendations. We have been coming here for years and are always very satisfied.
A great evening with friends! Gets very loud inside. Food was good. Paella was ok. Not really traditionally made. No crisp at the bottom. Flatbread was eh. Summer salad was nice. Green beans were the best part of the meal. Calamari almost too crispy. Churros and chocolate tasty. Beer was excellent! Tried several. So go for the beer!
I planned to take my young niece to watch the flamenco show, so I decided to make a reservation via OpenTable, and made a note requesting to have a table next to the stage. I even added that if it wasn't possible, to contact me.
Upon my arrival, I saw that there were no tables available next to the stage. It completely defeated the purpose of taking my niece to watch the show, as she could not see.
If the request couldn't be accommodated, I would have appreciated advanced notice. I dont know if this was a mistake on the restaurant's part for not looking at the notes or OpenTable for not making the notes available. If I did it again, I probably would have called directly.
Been wanting to try this place for years, but will never again...
Service is ok, waitress is attentive, but food is quite terrible!
Seafood are NOT fresh, meats are tough, and beers are monotonously over flavored with hops.
May go there for game watching or happy hour, but food totally not enjoyable!
We were there on a Thursday evening, during a Warriors game. (We were not there for sports) It was very loud. The waiter had a hard time hearing us give our order. We did get a table in the back which made it a bit less noisy. All the food was very tasty. Paella, salad with goat cheese, seared tuna. Service was fair at best, but all the staff seemed to be covering each other and we got what we needed.
I have been there for Flamenco on Sundays, which is a calmer night.
We went for lunch on Friday and it was quiet but I've been there when it's been very loud during happy hour or dinnertime. The outstanding tapas we had were the ceviche and the short ribs. The fried calamari and green beans were adequate. Great beer selection.
We were on holiday in San Francisco and visited the Thirsty Bear on our last day in the city. I was pleased and surprised to find traditional hand pumps as one of the dispense methods for the beers, indeed two of the home brews were available on hand pump, both of which were excellent.
The tapas menu was varied and we tried four of the options. The potato dish, the ribs and, in particular, the squid were all excellent. The prawns however were a trifle gritty and of poor quality we felt, but this didn't detract from an enjoyable evening out.
The service and atmosphere were excellent and we would heartily recommend the venue
I just wrote a review for our first visit to Thirsty Bear. We went a second time 3 nights later, when we had another event at YBCA. We liked our second night's food choices even better, and again appreciated what a good location this is -- across from SF MOMA, just half a block from YBCA, when we were there (6 p.m. each time), not too crowded, and with quieter seating at the back of the restaurant.
Wait staff are helpful and attentive. This time one of us had the chorizo - arugula flatbread, the other had the garlic gambas, and we split the roasted green beans with red pepper and good olive oil. Recommend these, if one like spiciness and garlic!
