I have had high tea here before and it was fantastic. This time, however, the service was very slow. It took over 20 minutes just to get our teas. The server did not know the menu at all and was unsure what was being served. We had a guest with us that had allergies, and they still brought out food with her allergens in it. Some of our food was also forgotten and we had to ask for it again. Overall, it was not worth the money.
Presentation was exceptional!! And tasty as always.
This experience was one that I won't forget. I treated my parents to an afternoon tea at the Hotel Vancouver. The service and ambiance was impeccable and made for great memories ! The servers were friendly and made the experience easy. The "TEA ROOM" was beautifully decorated with in a colorful and cheerful holiday theme. The table setting, complete with silver place settings, white table cloths and fine bone china also made the experience warm and inviting. Some of the sandwiches and canapes were dry. It was evident that they were made in advance and later plated for service. The sweet selections on the trays were delicious! Overall the $65 was pricey but I would pay this again for the time I was able to spend with my parents and see them reminisce about having tea many years ago at the historic Hotel Vancouver.
The setting and food was really great! I heard a lot of great things from my friends who have went so it lived up to expectations. Also the portions were much bigger than other high tea places.
We had a great experience. The atmosphere and the presentation was top notch. The service was great. They remembered that it was my wife’s birthday and brought a cake! Definitely recommend this place for afternoon tea.
We never been told there was a 2-hour time limit for the afternoon tea. After an hour sitting there, I felt being rushed. There weren’t enough staff so the service level is just average. Given the price they charged ($65 per person) which is double many afternoon tea places, I expect better service, better food quality and not being rushed . The ambiance of the place is probably the only thing valued.
The fact that they theme the tea and offer changes on a regular basis makes this tea a fresh experience every time. The room is lovely and the service great. Well worth a stop.
You can’t go wrong with afternoon tea at the Hotel Vancouver!
Friendly severs but had to wait a while for more hot water. Beautiful room. Food was good but too many sweets and not enough savoury sandwiches. We had fun though.
We had the Enchanted Tea during the summer, and it was delicious, every single item was very tasty. This Winter Wonderland, however, didn’t live up to expectations. The savoury items were just okay, however the sweet items were just sugar. Literally just sickly sweet. As someone who loves chocolate and all sorts of desserts, I’m no stranger to sweet foods, but these didn’t even taste good, they just tasted like someone accidentally poured an extra bag of sugar into everything and the kitchen didn’t bother to fix the mistake.
I’ll definitely try whatever new theme they have next, but I’d recommend skipping this Winter Wonderland theme.
As with all hotel afternoon teas, this one is pricey. We were there during Christmas, when they had a special "festive" menu. The savory and sweet treats were all named something relevant to the holiday, and they were intricately shaped. Think: a meringue snowman, penguins shaped from soft cheese decorated with poppy seeds, sandwiches made to look like presents. It was a lovely presentation, but I think I would have preferred just the traditional tea sandwiches. It was, of course, more food than anyone could manage in one sitting. We ended up taking most of the sweets with us. It was a fun holiday event to do while visiting Vancouver. Note, the lighting in the tea room is god-awful. Lots of down-lights, making it basically impossible to get a decent photo. It also makes all the people look rather ghoulish. Why restaurants don't take lighting into consideration in this day and age is beyond me.
Really unfortunate expereince. Went for a Holiday experience with a friend and was shuttled to a room so packed that it was very noisy. It took almost 10 mins for a server to greet us and ask us what we'd like for our teas. There was also a pomegranate seed on the chair which my hand crushed but thank god I wasn't wearing anything white! Both the savouries and sweet petit fours were pretty, but almost tasteless. Really not the normal tea experience I go for. I went to a hole in the wall tea house the next day and they were way better in food, tea options and service. For a 1/3 of the price. Would not go back for tea.
The restrooms are terribly smelly it's unbearable to use the facilites. For a classy hotel like this one it's absolutely appalling. It's been like this everytime we dine at the restaurant so its not just a one time encounter!
Certainly was not worth the price. Disappointing decor for holiday theme. Nothing special - but a very special price!
It was a wonderful experience except for the heartburn right after we left and all the next day. My friend and I both experienced this.
We were there for afternoon tea. Because we came around Christmas time, they have the Winter wonderland theme. They gave you plenty of small bites and sweets and each person can choose a pot of tea of her choice. I found the some of the sweets are way too sweet for me. The service was great and the Christmasy vibe was one of the kind. Overall it was a great experience if you have never been there. I wish they make their food less sweet.
Greatly appreciated the plum pudding with a candle for my friend’s birthday. Perfect!
The tall awkward boxes that the food was displayed in were blocking my view of my table guests, thus making it hard to have a conversation with them. Totally an inappropriate choice for a table presentation. I would have preferred more savoury items. I was aware of what I was paying but I didn’t see the value in the experience. We were a party of 6 so three of the display boxes were overwhelming.
I think of the 4 times that I joined Notch 8 for their themed afternoon tea, this was a little disappointing. The decorations were underwhelming, service was slow (we did not see our server for the last half of our dining), and food was mediocre. The gift box with the savory and sweet goodies was beautifully presented but I found that there were too many desserts and they were too sweet (and chocolate is one of my main food groups so that goes to say how sweet it was). I wish there were more lights to brighten the mood and have a warmer, more Christmas-y vibe to the experience.
Compared to all their themes, I think the Winter Wonderland has room for improvement (the Enchanted theme was just too magical)!
Best experience ever for my moms birthday and will definitely be back
It was good to try as a new experience, however, I learnt afternoon tea is not for me. The courses consist of too much sugar, which left me feeling sluggish and gross. It was a shame to also learn this about myself whilst spending over $70 on a few average quality sandwiches, and six higher quality desserts. The establishment did nothing wrong since afternoon tea is an indulgent experience, it's more spending lots of money on food that isn't substantial is not for me.
We enjoyed the tea but found it to be too heavy on the sweets and joy enough savoury. We ended up taking several items home with us. I think a better balance between sweet and savoury, as well as more substantial savoury items (the sandwiches) would have left us feeling less of a sugar crash and sick to our stomachs.
Our server was outstanding, friendly and made us feel special.
The Christmas decoration is lovely. The food and service are great. I will definitely go again. The only thing I would suggest is that choose a seat without an overhead light. Those lights are too strong and don't look good in the photo if intended to take one.
The high tea was good but the sweets were way too sweet.
Nice decor, Good service, but the food is horrible. Everything is like bought from CVS, super sweet and low quality. We feel like paid 65 for pictures.
We went for the Enchanted Forest theme tea party and it was amazing. Food was cute and delicious! The restaurant was nicely decorated and dimly lit; Overall it really did feel magical. The service was quick and the server we had was extremely polite and made us feel welcomed. I would definitely come back for all the themed tea parties as this has made #1 on my list.
The atmosphere and decor were nice, but this themed tea was very overpriced. We should have been offered more than one pot of tea, and the food portions were very tiny (besides the scones). I have enjoyed high tea at other places that were less expensive, included champagne, and the food was even tastier. Plus, we were offered unlimited tea.
We felt a bit rushed at the end. Take away boxes were brought to the table without us asking. The Fairmont is a nice place, if you don’t mind paying a LOT for it.
My grown daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the Enchanted Forest tea . The room was cozy with “enchanting” style. The food was beautiful and delicious (and the first time I’ve taken photos of a meal). Our server provided just the right amount of attention. It was as perfect as it could be!
We were so glad we didn’t miss this woodland sojourn. Thank you and we can hardly wait for the Winter Wonderland event.
This was my second time taking my mother to Notch8 for their high tea service. The first time, I was blown away, by both the menu and by the service. This time, the experience wasn't nearly as great. The menu wasn't as appealing (just personal tastes, perhaps), the scones weren't as light, and the service wasn't nearly as attentive.
I may go back again, but I'm not nearly as eager to do so. I will be paying much closer attention to the menu offerings prior to any return visit, and I will be hoping for better scones and service.
It was my birthday and the most magical tea I could have ever hoped for :)
Waited 25mins to get served. The waitress worked as a robot, just followed the program setting.
Although this was a nice idea, I thought it was a bit lax for a Fairmont tea. The price falls into line with other afternoon teas but the service was a bit lacking for a traditional tea. The decor was nicely put together and the pastries were good. The tea sandwiches creative but a bit stale and small. The scones were pleasant but unlike the sandwiches they could have been smaller and the compote served with them did not really compliment the flavors of the scones.
Overall a nice afternoon but there are better afternoon tea options in the city.
I brought my two little girls to the Enchanted Forest Afternoon Tea recently. It was so wonderful. Our server, Serge, was very friendly and perfectly accommodating with the girls, and didn’t patronize us with kiddie tea cups (your kids will need to be well behaved and quiet for this event - we left when mine started losing it).
The only change I’d make is a bit more lighting in the centre of the tea room - the food is so photogenic, it’s a shame it’s all in shadow if you’re not in one of the exterior booths.
Altogether a lovely experience that I’d do again as an annual tradition, but not too regularly as the bill for two adults and two kids (plus tip) was $220!!
They were able to accommodate a gluten free and dairy free set but I didn't always know what the alternative options were. The biscuits need to be less cardboard but a really good job and I preferred my brulee alternative
Our server was outstanding and the food was delicious and beautifully presented.
I honestly expected a bit more in terms of the decor for the enchanted garden theme but overall it was a lovely afternoon. Thank you.
Was very quaint and a nice thing to do. Very pricey for what you get and couple that with downtown parking or valet parking makes it very very pricey.
It was a wonderful experience. Everyone was very helpful, including the valet service.
