The restaurant was closed on the day of my reservation. We called, and despite standing in front of a closed gate, the automated message insisted that the restaurant was, in fact, open. Not sure how I was able to book a reservation for a closed restaurant.
Great food. Tasting menu was awesome!
My grandmother's nursing home has better food than this. The man running the brunch hour was very nice and the menu looked delicious: it was an epic disappointment. The biscuits were hard and tasteless: the jams somewhat interesting but they were served in containers that other people had used and scraps of other food were in them. The cappuccino was burnt and tasted worse than one made at a Holiday Inn. The bacon were three slabs of thick fat. It was absolutely the most disgusting meal I've ever had in New York: I'd put fast food a step ahead.
I don't know why you ask for a credit card for guarantee the reservation if is empty
I ask for a reservation at 8:00 PM and you only have at 7:30 or 9:00 PM an there is not other table all night long
Smoked duck breast was amazing !
Beef Wellington $25. Delicious. Interesting cocktails. Small place, so make reservations. We will definitely go back.
Food came out in a broken sequence. Took a while before plates were cleared. Table was left I cleaned after meals were completed. I left smelling like the kitchen, not my favorite.
Host/waiter was very sweet, looked short-staffed during my visit.
Perfect spot for brunch. Quiet, great service and excellent food.
Small intimate room seating maybe 50. Open kitchen was fun to see. Service friendly and helpful. Food was fantastic, with small plates for our group of 4 to share. Will go back.
Great food, great service and a cozy atmosphere- a real neighborhood gem!
Thelma has become our go to restaurant on the regular because of the interesting combinations fresh ingredients and really great service. It's truly amazing some of the dishes that are coming out of that small kitchen. Keep it up, and will keep on coming!
The food here was exceptional - we were actually pleasantly surprised. Especially something even as simple as the Nappa cabbage side - it was seasoned and prepared to perfection. Ditto with the smoked trout salad. You could really tell that this food was created by a superior chef. I will be going back. A great find for those who want a genuinely good meal.
Service was very kind. The pork belly was absolutely delicious! The place was quiet and dim. Great conversation place if you come and its not busy. The drinks were good too! Might come back for other dishes!
We had an early reservation, 6:45pm I believe, on a Sat night and we were the only customers when we arrived! Don't let that dissuade you. Their crowd simply comes in later so it's an ideal spot for early quiet dinner, and the food was very, very good. At first I thought the portion of pork looked small but it was very thick and filling, and it just comes apart with a touch of the fork. We'll be back!
Lovely gem. Great food with terrific taste and presentation. Romantic and intimate. Pork belly is excellent.
I'm so glad we decided to come here while visiting from Chicago. The space is charming. It's intimate, but love that it's a neighborhood spot! Decor was very homey with shelves holding jars of preserves they have for sale. I also liked that you can eat at the bar that looks into the open kitchen. Great way to get more seating in a small footprint.
We had 2 cocktails. I had the champagne cocktail with cucumber and vodka that was so refreshing...just what I needed on a super hot New York day. We shared three
Dishes - bacon-wrapped dates, octopus confit, and short ribs. The octopus was perfectly cooked, not gummy as many similar "meats" tend to be. The short rib was phenomenal. So tender and the sauce had such depth to it. You can tell it's been "brewing" for a while.
Our server, was so great and helpful. Felt like I was taking to a friend.
A perfect spot for a quiet weeknight dinner, the food is delicious, fresh and healthy. Our server was friendly, professional and took our questions and requests with aplomb.
Booked for my husbands birthday with a group of 10 on a Saturday night at 7:30pm and literally had the whole place to ourselves, Amazing! The service was top notch with a thorough knowledge of each dish.
We were treated so well and the food was beautiful. We had dishes ranging from Branzino atop a bed of fennel to duck breast and beef Wellington.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would definitely go back again.
Service not great. To much noise for me. Food was good but drinks were wrong twice.
We honestly like everything about Thelma's. It was my birthday and although it's a small place, we got the requested corner table for 2 which added to the romance. Thelma's does small plates, which is the only way I like to eat anymore -- it's great to share food and try little bit of a lot of dishes. In that regard, we especially loved the pickled muscles, the smoked duck, and the lamb shank. OTOH the white chocolate bread pudding was a bit disappointing so I will try something different for dessert when I definitely go back. The service was just right.
Wonderful experience and very accommodating when our party kept on growing at the last minute. Great food and wine. The owner and chef Melissa took such good care of our group. Will definitely be going back often!
The menu was very limited and it's not kid friendly.
We visited this restaurant twice in the past month. The food is terrific. We loved the smoke duck, the cod, the salmon, the risotto and the deviled eggs. In fact there wasn't anything that we didn't like. Two caveats, one is that there was a slight difference in serving size during our second visit. It meant ordering one more small plate, which was not a huge issue for us, but consistency is important given the price point, which came to around $45 per person. The atmosphere is casual and the service was excellent. We do think that offering a few lower priced items would help offset costs for some diners. The desserts were good, but not as amazing as the small and large plates. We will definitely be back.
This restaurant was brought to our attention through Blackboard Eats though we did not use the coupon for this Saturday evening dinner. We are international diners and bring a level of experience with us but I must say, across the board, that the food was very, very good. We felt the smoked duck was terrific as well as the cod and salmon larger plates. We also enjoyed the risotto and the curried vegetables, which were not overcooked as can sometimes be the case. We thought the bread pudding was tasty but might have prefered a little more sauce. Four diners shared 2 small and 3 large plates, 1 dessert plus bread and wine, which was fine. We are definitely returning to this restaurant.
We went for dinner on Saturday. We had a very friendly and attentive server. The dates wrapped in bacon were divine. The pearl onion risotto was delicious and so was the cream of cauliflower soup. We tried the salmon. The cucumbers that it is served with is a great addition to that dish. The codfish grandmere was a hearty, flavorful dish. But the best thing we had may have been the napa cabbage side with almonds. What a great, fresh flavor dish! We had some great cocktails also. Adorable place. Will recommend it to friends.
THERE REALLY ISN'T ANYTHING MUCH MORE I HAVE TO ADD ... also love the set up of the place, color patterns and the music (MGMT, Foster the people and Empire Sun ... such great choices). I really enjoyed my time!
Great find in the east Village. Welcoming staff and cozy feel. The very definition of a great neighborhood restaurant but well worth the cab ride from Midtown. Excellent sharing menu, well stocked bar and wine list with reasonable prices. Will most definitely return.
Our dishes were delicious but the space was bland, there wasn't any buzz, and the service as average. If you live in the area, its a cute place, but nothing I would travel for.
Had a great Valentine brunch with my daughter among a mixed crowd of daters, families and friends. The atmosphere was energetic and fun. Even though it was literally the coldest day of the year and a little chilly inside too, no one left and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The food was cooked perfectly. And I highly recommend the Bloody Mary's
If you need a dinner date spot on a Friday night and want to make sure it's good but not too loud (so you can have an actual conversation) this is your spot. I booked it blindly since I wasn't too familiar with restaurants in the area. Cocktails were top notch and the food was delicious. It's pretty much the perfect balance that I look for in such a situation. As soon as I walked in there I was like, "Okay great, this is exactly what I was hoping for." Good times.
Went to this place while in NYC as it was recommended on a few web sites. It is in an u"untidy" part of the Lower East Side. The place had one other table occupied on a Tuesday night and the waiter was super-friendly and welcoming. It is a "small plate" restaurant and the menu is a little confusing but was explained by our waiter. We ordered pickled egg and dates wrapped in bacon all cooked in a tiny open kitchen. The pickled egg had no real pickle taste and was overpriced but the dates were excellent. We also had Thai vegetable curry, short ribs, salmon in miso sauce and risotto. The salmon was nice and tasty, the short ribs very oily, the risotto was excellent but the curry lacked any taste and badly needed salt.
We ended with creme brule that was too runny to eat . It was sent back and replaced with another dessert at no charge. Overall the place, food and service was good but a little too eclectic for our tastes. The cost was high for the quantity and quality.
service was great - the head chef/owner even came out and spoke to us. drinks were very good, as was the food. the short rib was excellent.
The food was great, service was excellent. The chicken liver mousse was out of this world! Will definitely be back.
Quaint, tiny little restaurant with surprisingly unique and unforgettable fare. When we arrived we were honestly in awe as to how the tiny little kitchen was capable of being so quick and serving such generous portions. We couldn't have been more wrong. The risotto was one of a kind, the cauliflower soup was a truffle dip for our side potatoes and our smoked trout salad was phenomenal. Bartender was super nice and gave us drinks on the house because the beer was a little flat.
Excellent food, service and ambiance!
The salmon with poached eggs and mashed potatoes combination was delicious. The chamomile
Tea was exquisite. Service was incredible by Sarah and Janelle. The drinks made by Carina were excellent. A neighborhood gem. Nice music. Beautiful decor and great ambiance.
This place is terrific. The wait staff is lovely, the food is outstanding and the prices are very reasonable. Located in a funky neighborhood, it's a good place to go on a Sunday afternoon for brunch, followed by a walk around the hood. Great place. Don't miss it.
My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful brunch here. A highlight was the biscuits with homemade preserves. YUM! The design/ambiance was lovely, the servers were very attentive, and the food was so flavorful and fresh. I hope to return--this time for dinner--soon!
Marvelous food at a reasonable price! Wonderful service. Why didn't we know about this place sooner??
All around great spot, nice for sharing... Try the bacon wrapped dates!
