The Yorkshire Bar and Grill
Fabulous food ,steak cooked perfectly.
Great staff, very attentive.
Very basic menu due to COVID
Seated in conservatory area which was a bit chilly and lacked any ambience
Staff were lovely and food OK if somewhat overpriced, but that's hotel restaurants for you
Due to Covid there was a restricted menu ,in addition due to a large group ordering food in the bar several items were unavailable. The food itself was well cooked and presented. The service was good, friendly and Covid safe.
We were expecting the menu as advertised via Opentable, but we’re disappointed to find that it was very different and told it was a “very old menu“.
The service was good but the food (fish and chips & burger and chips) can only be described as simple food done badly.
Limited menu (8 mains) of which two were unavailable at 6.30 on a Saturday night.
big disappointment
Poor menu choice, frozen food, very expensive wine
We didn't realise this was a hotel restaurant, and had reopened a couple of works before our visit. This explained the limited menu and lack of people, in a city where many restaurants where fully booked for a Tuesday evening. The service was very good, and the food was delicious. There was one slight problem with one of our desserts not turning up, so we were provided with a free drink each - and the dessert was subsequently provided.
All in all very good.
Great food and great service. Lovely decor and atmosphere. It was a lovely surprise that there were live music on too!
Food ok not much choice for Sunday lunch Yorkshire pudding obviously reheated
Sat in Orangey no music and no atmosphere
Overall a lovely meal, service was slow but but it worked well for us as we could enjoy our food and chat with plenty of time between courses. Waiters were excellent and very friendly
Nice decor, attentive staff and good food. Mid price menu. Went for an evening meal, looking forward to trying the afternoon tea.
Waitress seemed a bit out of her depth but was friendly and the food was nice
Terrible services would not go back
We were staying at the Hilton Doubletree in York for a birthday weekend from Friday 15th November. We had a reservation for 7-30 at the Yorkshire Bar and grill. We were shown to our table by the supervisor, handed some menus and she said I’ll be back in a couple of minutes, 22 minutes later some one realised we were sitting there with menus on the table. So a new member of staff was sent across to ask us if we had ordered to which the answer was no. He apologised and took our food order and left the table. At this point I went to the bar to order some drinks. After 45 minutes from ordering dinner we were still waiting. When the food did arrive, I enjoyed mine, but the “chef” had managed to burn the edges of the lamb steak, over cook the tomato and missed the butter off the buttered new potatoes. My wife ate her dinner only because she was hungry having waited over an hour for her main meal. My wife has special dietary requirements, she checked the options available with the supervisor and to top it all the ice cream arrived on a biscuit crumb - how do you get 3 scoops of ice cream wrong ?. On Saturday we ate at the ateo’clock restaurant in town, the service and the food was outstanding. Our advice is for the staff at the Yorkshire Bar and grill to visit ateo’clock and see how it should be done. At no point were we asked would we like a drink or would we like more drinks. So if I hadn’t gone to the bar we wouldn’t have had a drink either.
No we will not be visiting again.
It's a lovely bar if you're looking for a place to have a nice meal at a reasonable price.
The service however was not to standard and considering it's linked to a hotel I'd have expected a lot better.
The food arrived and my partner ordered a steak. No steak knife was provided. He asked for ketchup and the person serving us forgot, seeming to only remember when the table across from us requested the same but by that time we had finished eating.
The waiters didn't seem to know who was receiving what, three separate orders came to our table which was awkward.
No one came to ask us how our meal was or to see if we wanted another drink we had to call someone over to ask.
The food was ok and the place is nice but staff could do with a bit of training.
Stopped at the adjoining hotel for one night (Saturday).. it was excellent great staff and accommodation... being an ex chef of 15 years my food standards are very high and this restaurant did not disappoint from excellent food service and atmosphere nice relaxing and great value.. I will definitely be back ...
We had a Groupon Prosecco afternoon tea here at the weekend and would highly recommend this to anyone.
The sandwiches were delicious and we had a lovely selection of sweet treats too.
The layout of the tables was perfect and the decorations was very modern.
I will definitely be back. Thank you
Service was very slow, even with an expected delay for a table of 10, we were in the restaurant for 2 hours & only had 1 course. We were not offered more drinks after the initial order & no one apologised for the delay.
1 of our party was vegetarian & due to ingredients on all 3 vegetarian dishes being unavailable there was nothing on the main menu for her to eat, she had to eat a starter salad with chips & boiled carrots.
I ordered a rare steak which was over cooked, I would describe it as medium well.
Far below what I would expect from a restaurant joined to a Hilton hotel.
The food and service were both excellent . Thoroughly recommend
Pre booked a table the week before we got there and when we turned up they didn't have a clue we were meant to be arriving. Took them 10 minutes to make a table up despite us being the only people in the place. Only offered us 1 round of drinks for the entire 2 hours we were there. Ordered a bottle of prosecco and they tried to fob us off with a bottle of Brut. When I asked them about this they offered a bottle of "Fizzesco" instead, a low alcohol prosecco! Apparently they could not find the keys to the cellar to get us an actual bottle however they said they would try and obtain one for us. An hour later, we finally got one as the meal was over.
The food itself was good however 1 meal didn't even turn up and another fish and chips meal was all batter. There was literally no fish inside. The mains took 45 minutes to arrive again despite us being the only people in the restaurant.
Overall a very poor experience and I have no intention of going back. No wonder it was completely empty on a busy bank holiday weekend.
Lovely food and setting, the only reason didn’t give 5* review was husbands steak was cooked well and he’d ordered medium. My burger was delicious.
We’ve been twice recently to the Yorkshire Bar and Grill. Both times, our servers were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. On the first evening, I had the Fresh Pea and Asparagus soup, which was certainly the best pea soup I’ve ever had: the flavour was bright and delicious. Our second visit was for a Saturday steak night, and we were in no way disappointed by the steak (tender and perfectly medium-rare as ordered) and the included bottle of house red . It was a lovely evening and satisfyingly tasty.
Service was outstanding, both servers we had were lovely and accommodating. The food was so good the only thing I regret is not wearing stretchier clothing.
Staff were disinterested I had to ask for a menu, ask for salt and pepper and ask for the bill.
Server had very terrible body odor (perspiration).
Not happy and left the restaurant. I decided to have lunch at another restaurant nearby instead.
Staff were excellent.
We explained that we needed to be in & out quite quickly we were. It was much appreciated.
Good meal although no specials available on a Monday night
Poor food. Not even busy and yet waiting staff stood out of view avoiding the customers.
Food that came was very poor. Would suggest avoiding and trying some other places in York.
Absolutely terrible...booked for Father’s Day for my husband and children - 1st of all no beef, then the soup my husband chose wasn’t available...next my children wanted Lasagne but that too was off the menu. By now we were thinking that this was a joke ! When our mains arrived the roast pork was served with a tomato and flat mushroom - they had obviously run out of veg too ! The children’s main came and was advertised as penne with mixed vegetables, tomato sauce and topped with cheese. It came and was purely penne with chopped tomatoes...I wouldn’t serve that to anyone !!! As I booked this restaurant I feel that we should have been warned about the lack of options before we arrived !! We won’t be back !!!
Excellent food, we had a slight problem with one order which was quickly picked up by the manager, great service throughout the meal, lovely laid back atmosphere
Staff disinterested at check in desk.
They did not check that we had booked as the restaurant was not busy. Service OK. Place not clean. Table next to us had cutlery and food on the floor and this was not cleaned up until just as we left. Salt pot was filthy. Food really average. No atmosphere. We had not known it was a hotel restaurant.
Sorry- just not good enough. Noise from the bar( we presume) was horrendous.
Especially impressed with the bespoke shepherds pie which was delightful, great food and service.
Easter Sunday family gathering
Oh, dear! I booked this as it was close to our accommodation. The menu looked quite good and the waitress was attentive. However the food let everything down. My 40 day aged steak was more medium than med rare, but no matter if it was tasty. Sadly this was not the case, the beef had very little flavour and was a shame as this restaurant uses ingredients sourced locally (within 30 miles). My husband’s fish looked more like coley than cod. Both meals were edible, but underwhelming and were offered free desserts to compensate. Okay, time to redeem itself - chocolate tart and hazelnut cream - not happening, sorry. The pastry crust was more biscuit than pastry and needed a knife to cut up! The chocolate filling was tasty but very firm. I won’t say what I thought of the hazelnut cream.
The Yorkshire Grill was good value for money but nothing special. My wife said she would have been disappointed if she had provided such food. We had two other meals in York during our stay, better but also more expensive.
Good service, hearty food that is well prepared and cooked plus sufficient to fil you up
Very nice meal, we enjoyed all of the dishes. Good value, we will visit again.
I had a lovely meal and the staff were very attentive.
Saturday is gin day at the Yorkshire Bar and Grill with a good selection and good value. The food was locally sourced which was a good reason for our visit. The food was good.
Me and my partner went for food here as we always do when we visit York. However this time the service wasnt very good they didnt seem interested in whether we enjoyed the meal or not. We both ordered steak and they got how we would like the steak cooked mixed up with eachothers. So this kinda spoilt the meal.
Service was ok, we had a gin spilt over 2 of us with no offer of refund or a free one to compensate. My food was good but my work colleagues who all had steak said it was ok they have had better.
