The Yorkshire Bar and Grill
Saturday is gin day at the Yorkshire Bar and Grill with a good selection and good value. The food was locally sourced which was a good reason for our visit. The food was good.
Me and my partner went for food here as we always do when we visit York. However this time the service wasnt very good they didnt seem interested in whether we enjoyed the meal or not. We both ordered steak and they got how we would like the steak cooked mixed up with eachothers. So this kinda spoilt the meal.
Service was ok, we had a gin spilt over 2 of us with no offer of refund or a free one to compensate. My food was good but my work colleagues who all had steak said it was ok they have had better.
The Chateaubriand was very tasty and perfect cooked.
The service was not good staff appeared uninterested, we waited over 20 mins for the Christmas menu to be served. The couple next to us ordered off the main menu and were served within 10 minutes. At no time were we asked if the food was OK which is was and no attempt to ask if we required anymore drinks. Will not be returning there sorry.
We visited the Doubletree Hotel and had a lovely time but our meal in The Yorkshire Bar and Grill wasn’t great! We had the classic burgers which tasted just like a frozen basic value burger that had been grilled to a crisp once it was cooked. The tables either side of us were complaining about their food too. Definitely not worth the price and definitely wouldn’t recommend!!
We chose this place as it was my husband's birthday and our wedding anniversary. As it was Wednesday my husband and son chose the Steak deal which was 2 for £30 with a bottle of wine. Steaks were tasty though not amazing. Drinks were reasonably priced. The restaurant is in a good spot in the city centre and the breakfast facilities which serve the adjoining hotel looked fabulous.
The restaurant however lacked atmosphere and the serving staff did not engage with us at all.
Very good food, used meerkat meals code. The steak was cooked perfectly. Only negative point was the atmosphere was slightly lacklustre, however that might have been because we dined on a Thursday evening. Couldn't have had a nicer meal. Thank you
Good service. Tasty food. Very good price, but we did use merecat 2-4-1
Very disappointed when we were shown to our table the place was not even half full but we only being the two of us were sat next to a larger table who was making some noise, we had been left for about 20 minutes before any one come back to us the waitress never asked us if we would like a drink when we sat down it should be the first thing not 20 minutes later we asked to be moved and we did then asked for a drink we placed our order the food took just short of 60 minutes to come and then it was sent to someone's else's table the food was worm not hot and at no point did any of the staff come and ask if everything was OK the resistant was not busy but I have to say the service was very very poor and the food not much better very disappointing
We ordered beer from the drink-list, and expected they were in. So did the waitress. But four times she had to return to our table saying -sorry, we don´t have that beer. The food was fantastic !
Very nice atmosphere with an extensive menu. Fantastic steak dishes and creatively styled desserts. Would definitely recommend for a romantic, casual or family meal.
Excellent food staff and service would use again when we are in York
We were not at all impressed with the service nor the food, no ambience and our waitress gave the impression we were a nuisance. Would not recommend or visit again.
Food was served cold!
Waited 45 minutes for our starters!
The service was the worst it has ever been at this restaurant. Our starter took about 40 minutes to arrive, to be fair they were not charged for, but the usual standard is much better than this.
The food and service were excellent. Cheerful staff
I recently visited the Christmas Markets and after checking the menu for The Yorkshire Bar and Grill, decided to book a table for myself and daughter, as the menu appeared to be reasonably priced, varied and offered food that we would enjoy eating. However, the menu I was given on arrival, was not the same as on the website, and the main course only offered steak or one chicken dish, all of which were far more expensive than we had anticipated. As we are not keen on steak our options were limited. The chicken dish was adequate, but not exactly filling. We were asked if we would like to order drinks from the bar, and although we placed an order we did not receive them. Also the general temperature in the restaurant was cold, and other diners could also be heard commenting about the temperature and the change of menu.
I was very disappointed in this dining experience. I understand that restaurants do change their menus periodically, however this has changed beyond recognition and I feel will alienate a lot of diners.
A good venue for groups. Good quality food and friendly service.
Had a lovely afternoon tea, local sourced with Yorkshire tea served in a wooden box (not the tea).
Staff were incredibly rude. Made a reservation online and there was a mix up with times and when we walked in and said we had a reservation the server just stared and frowned at us and walked off, left us standing in the middle of the restaurant, the manager then came over and wasn't much better accused me of lying, I will admit the mistake was on my part but to be so rude to a potential customer. To be honest it's far too snooty for me, any restaurant that treats people the way they treated us doesn't deserve custom.
Never been served afternoon tea in a crate before - yes a crate and it was all good. fresh sandwiches, scones and sweet trwats plus large glasses of prosecco.
Afternoon tea with prosecco was delightful.copious hot tea and coffee , fresh well filled sandwiches and homemade sausage roll served followed by mini brownie, Eton mess and scone with cream and jam. Un fortunately scones were burnt and when I pointed this out was told that's all they had.only negative in experience.Interestingly served in mock wooden crate on slate platters with Astro turf underneath which was different.
I booked a picnic style yorkshire afternoon tea & fizz for 2 with a Travelzoo voucher and it was easy to reserve on line via Open Table. We had a warm welcome and were served with tasty savoury & sweet items in a crate with our 'plates' being slate. There was enough to satisfy both of us along with a big pot of Yorkshire tea and two glasses of prosecco. Good service too we were asked twice if everything was ok (it was) and if we wanted fresh tea. An afternoon tea with a difference which I would recommend.
