Located in the heart of the Golden Triangle in the City of Norwich, The York reopened in May 2023 with an all-new menu focused on fresh, seasonal, locally-sourced produce served alongside locally brewed cask ales, European lagers and a low-intervention wine list.

To be perfectly honest it’s just a little bit hit and miss. Had some of the food was nice, some was a bit basic, same with the presentation and service. Good range of drinks though and good atmosphere.

We were a big party (9) and it was a surprisingly busy night for a Wednesday. The service was unobtrusive yet attentive. It was a refreshing change not to have a burger on the menu and sets the York out as something more than pub grub. Food arrived together and was tasty. A few had the very good value risotto special. My Cod was delicious. Most had puddings and the Gorgonzola with toasted fruit bread, pickled walnuts and onion marmalade was a real highlight. The Black Forest Trifle was a hit too. With drinks and service charge at £38 a head it was a super birthday party meal. We will return!

Lovely pub with a fantastic welcome. Beautifully cooked Sunday roast with the biggest yorkies I’ve ever seen! Fab service and very good value for money.

There’s an excellent bunch of imaginative chefs here, nice friendly staff and an open fire. No wonder it’s nearly full on a Wednesday night.
