The Yellow Chilli by Sanjeev Kapoor - Santa Clara
Stylish chain restaurant with full stocked bar serving Mughlai, Punjabi and dishes from India's Northwestern frontier.
Food was great my party came a bit late but kudos to Kosh... great service appreciate it.. I would recommend only for his service.
Some items really stood out:
Coconut Zaffrani Shorba (Saffron-flavored coconut milk broth) -- I had the vegetarian version. Possibly the best soup I've ever had
Chanajor Garam Tikki -- wonderful potato pancakes, although calling them that hardly does them justice
Terrific kulfi for dessert.
I was a little disappointed in the Shaam Savera -- the tomato gravy was excellent, but the spinach dumplings didn't fulfill the promise.
I would like to try other dishes sometime! The food is rich -- need to eat lightly.
It’s a good restaurant but food is not worth for the money. I went with very high expectations considering Sanjeev kapoor’s restaurant. I won’t go again.
It was great!
James did a very nice job of taking care of the dinner and drinks
If they are willing to pay a bit high price. The food is good not great but they do not have all items listed in the menu 🙁
The food was ABSOLUTE YUMMY!! My favorites was masala papad, manchow soup, lalla mussa daal and rasmalai.. loved it!!!
The table service is a bit busy, so order your main course a bit ahead of time...
Extremely slow service. Very average food.
I would have expected at least average service for the amount they charge.
Service was very slow . Food took long time to come to the table but the clean off plates where taken even before the food has been eaten
Veg biriyani, pindi chole and eggplant - always great and consistent. Our guests had fish tikka and chicken tikka and they loved the food. Service is good and ambience is good as well. Would rate this as the best upscale Indian restaurant in the Bay Area
First time here, party of 3. We had the spinach ravioli, butter chicken and the tikka masala, and shared lentils and bread. Everything, including the service, was super! We’ll be back.
The food is excellent! Given that we were a large group we tried a variety of vegetarian fare and everybody enjoyed the fare.
New year’s Eve
Very poor service.. average food. Not going back..
Excellent food and service. Try the lamb chop appetizer. It was exceptional.
Everything was good though our expectations of a restaurant by Sanjeev Kapoor were high for food quality. The food was nice but not so great that it blew any of us away.
I like the Bhunaghost but not the biryani's that well. Biryanis can definitely improve.
The service & staff was good but the food was OK. Only good thing is appetizers but the main entree's were just OK and nothing extra-ordinary. For the price I paid, its not worth visiting again if I am paying. I guess this explains the 3 star rating for the restaurant.
No option to order food from menu for Sunday lunch. Forced to eat buffet, which is of not great value when you are dining with young adults. Besides, choice of items served in buffet & breads are not appealing. Do not recommend planning for Sunday lunch unless you like to eat whatever served in the buffet.
It took forever to get food; and they made no attempt to compensate ... glass of wine? app while waiting! Drinks were nit that good!
Very good in my opinion. Food was awesome and delicious
Great food, good service and a pleasant friendly atmosphere
Food was good however service was terrible. Took 1.5 hrs to get all food to tables. We had a large group but that large to cause this delay. Servers didn’t keep us update on food and not refill on drinks. When you accept multiple large group reservations you need to account with proper staffing and service
This place is expensive and quality of food is also not good. The buffet food was not tasty.
Only thing I would recommend is to be more detailed on how the dishes are washed. Glasses were stained as well as the utensils for it being such a nice restaurant that not presentable.
The Shaam Savera and Butter Chicken are very good. Go hungry. YOu will want to try many items on the menu.
We arrived within 5 minutes of the reservation with a full party of 6 and they marked us as a no show which affects my open table account negatively. The restaurant was not crowded at all and for seemingly no reason our waitress was unnecessarily brief with us. We ordered two appetizers and before we could order a third the waitress raced off to put in our appetizers. My father is very elderly and he couldn’t speak fast enough to stop her. On top of that I wanted dal, but she was in such a hurry I was off put and didn’t put in my order. When she came back to write down our entrees my father got his chance to order his appetizer. Mostly we ordered the lazeez murgh tikka masala for our entrees and the waitress made a comment “obviously we would all like mild spice right?” this seemed non-abrasive until I spoke up and said “I would like mine to be extra spicy please,” which prompted a very patronizing response from our server. She widened her eyes and loudly said “Oh! Okay!” As if I were a kid ordering from the adult menu. My dish was served medium spicy at the most and I was extremely disappointed because I typically eat much hotter levels of food than what was served. This is exactly why I let my Indian girlfriend order for me at Hindustani restaurants because when she says spicy they take her seriously even though she prefers mild to medium for herself. Overall this experience is an isolated incident and the one other time I’ve been here we were treated much better by the wait staff. I’m just extremely disappointed that because we decided to take my family here too we received odd and rude treatment here.
For a renowned chef like Sanjeev Kapoor, it was a total disappointment. The presentation was so bad that it looked like you were eating at a soup kitchen. The fried fish was so dry and over fried that we couldn’t cut it with a knife. I lost appetite after that. Sanjeev Kapoor has made so much money that he doesn’t care about his brand value. Will not ever go again.
Food was excellent. Bit on the pricey side but for a good reason.
The food was very ordinary. I didn’t like it - I went in for the name of Sanjeev Kapur
Awesome food. Friendly service but very busy and understaffed on a monday night. Result slow service. Too bad as food was great. Will try again....
The Diwali lunch buffet was very disappointing in terms of food selection and overall presentation. For the increased price I expected much more given that other restaurants like Amber offered a very impressive feast for Diwali as I experienced a couple of days earlier. It seemed like Yellow Chilli was more focused on making a profit out of the occasion than providing real value or a fun and festive experience for customers.
They were apparently short on kitchen staff so even though I had made sure to make a reservation (and rushed to make the inconvenient time) we still ended up waiting 15 mins to be seated. The food was very yummy though!
The food was a bit uncooked.
The food is excellent. We got surprised by a 20% mandatory gratuity charge for getting our own food in a buffet! Gratuity is for good service; but here a lunch buffet where you mostly get your own food triggers a gratuity for 6+ people. Something the restaurant should declare before charging. The buffet has no menus that declare this charge either.
My highest recommendation, the food was thoughtfully and deliciously prepared and the the service was impeccable... definitely 5 star experience
The food was mediocre with very small portion size for the price and taste. The manager or whoever he was taking out order did not care for us and we had to wait for him for a 20-25 min to place our supplementary order. When asked for recommendation, he had very little to say, whereas I have been to other restaurants where the manager is so excited to entertain and ensure the guests are having the best time.
Poor quality and uninspiring dishes. Butter chicken had no butter and was too sweet. Desserts were not well soaked. This is no where close to good quality Indian food.
Second time I've been here for a team luncheon, It was great. Food was great, service was great. Definitely come again.
James is the best, most attentive server of all restaurants anywhere in Bay area. Great recommendations. Food maintains fidelity to Sanjeev Kapoor's famous recipes.
Our server James and the rest of the staff were friendly. James was very knowledgeable about the menu and made wonderful suggestions. My husband had a lamb dish that was very deep in flavor and tasty. I had a fish curry dish which was light and great in flavor as well. The only draw back was that the dishes were all a la carte. I am accustomed to having rice included with the main entree/protein. We had to pay for two bowls of rice just to get half the quantity to which we’re accustomed. It was quite a splurge for us, but overall the food was tasty and the experience enjoyable.
