Our waiter was great and very knowledgeable about the menu. He was great! I was there with my family celebrating my 30th birthday.
Beautiful restaurant with impeccable service. We opted to eat out on the sidewalk and it was a lovely night. Our server was friendly and efficient and the food was incredible. Will definitely visit again.
My husband and I were looking for a date night location close to our downtown hotel, a place where we could enjoy a nice meal and chat. We found that The Yard exceeded our expectations, both in atmosphere and our meal choices. The food and wine was amazing, and the wait staff were attentive to our needs without being at our table constantly. We were definitely glad we chose The Yard to celebrate.
They were closed and were not serving brunch until the following week. I called the restaurants two days before my reservation and they didn’t say they closed at 12.
Absolutely terrible experience. Took a couple of very large clients and were there over 2 hours. Very slow service, several entrees not available that we were not made aware of until 20 minutes after ordering, food was cold when it finally did arrive, and several had to be sent back for being undercooked. Under no circumstances would I recommend anyone attempt to eat here.
Food was actually pretty good but the poor service spoiled what could have been an enjoyable experience. They only had one salt shaker for the restaurant (it seemed) we got to borrow from another table for about 3 minutes, had to bus our own table between courses and they were totally unprepared for the evening.
Nothing special about the food. Bartender seemed preoccupied or just didn’t care to serve us
Relaxing atmosphere. Courteous waiter and delicious food. 10 out of 10!
Went to brunch on Sunday. Made reservation but there was no need we we’re 1 of 4 or 5 tables max. The service was horrible. The waiter simply was not friendly and you could tell had not been trained on an upscale services. Arguably I wouldn’t want his service any where regardless of pricing. He didn’t have the common courtesy etiquette, was forgetful, not responsive at all, I would have rather ordered from a kiosk. The food was excellent but I was highly disappointed because of the service. One the tables complained on him. The other waiter looked sloppy and it just set a bad tone.
Beautiful hotel and restaurant. The food was good and I would say average. I think the pricing in the drinks are a little over priced with not a great drink selection of specialty drinks. I got the southern fried chicken and it was definitely good. The wedge salad needed more dressing. I would go back.
Loved it, we will be back.
The service was excellent. We had the steak and the grouper both cooked perfectly and the sunchokes were a pleasant surprise. A must visit.
Very poor service. Entree came with wrong vegetables on 2 plates. Did not offer to bring us what we actually ordered.
Our first time at The Yard and it was fantastic! Yes, it was pricey but the food, service and ambiance were worth it. We are looking forward to going back again.
The atmosphere is awesome. Pretty venue. Our server Julie was super nice and pleasant. Food was not good. Appetizer ( lentil fritter) was dry, bland and served cold. We sent it back. The spinach salad was ok. We split an entree - steak, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts - even though the mashed potatoes were delicious, the meat was also cold. Very disappointing, specially because our first visit was great. I won’t be back
Service was great and drinks were delicious! We ordered the the roasted oysters and they were yummy, as well! Unfortunately our meal did not live up to the drinks and appetizers. Our chicken was really dry and tough, as well as the potatoes served with it. The creamed spinach was the highlight of dinner. We left there and went to the rooftop bar, Moonshine (also at the Eleyton) and ended up ordering and enjoying pizza, there.
Valentine’s Date night
Really good food. Service was lacking. When we arrived it was as if we’d never made a reservation. We ordered drinks but it was quite a while before we got them. Our entrees were delivered to our table except for my husband’s. By the time he received his, we were all finished with ours. The management did comp the meal however. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and spacious.
Food was excellent!!! The ambiance was wonderful! Ebony was a fantastic waitress! Enjoyed it tremendously! Will be back and will tell our friends!
The service was deplorable. It took us 45 minutes to get our food. The hostess even interrupted our order to talk to the waiter about another table's order. We will not go again. The atmosphere is great but we have tried this place three times and each time didn't get good service.
The Yard is just a beautiful place. The decor is actually kind of eclectic, being a fusion of the old-world elegance that is the Elyton Hotel combined with modern urban affectations that seemed to fit quite well. I mean this is a gorgeous restaurant. The food was DELICIOUS! Our servers were very nice and cordial and just plain easy to get along with. We did order some strange drinks that we're not certain how the bartenders figured out what we wanted, but everyone seemed happy. It's a little on the pricey side, but not out of sight, especially if you're planning a special evening out. I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.
I was pretty disappointed after having had a stellar first experience here a year or so ago. Four friends and I were headed to the Apollo Ball and I recommended The Yard as our pre-ball dinner. Apparently that was a popular choice, as the restaurant was instantaneously filled with people in formal wear all headed to the same event when we arrived at 6 p.m.
Unfortunately, the restaurant seemed ill-prepared for the simultaneous crowd despite the fact that there were still several empty tables the entire time we were there. Our server was simultaneously waiting on at least two other large groups, all of whom were seated at the same time as we were and needed to leave at the same time as we did (by 7:45.) Therefore, service was infuriatingly slow from start to finish and I spent most of the meal staring at the time. My water glass wasn’t refilled once and we had to forego desert and leave two glasses of wine half full on the table because we just had to go. By 7:30, multiple tables were waving down servers trying to get their checks. We had to literally chase our server down to get ours. Additionally, everyone in our group noted that their food was incredibly salty. Between us, we had fish, steak, meatloaf and chicken and the meatloaf was the only dish that wasn’t completely oversalted. My chicken was barely edible. We’d have sent them back but there was just no time.
It was really just kind of a mess and not at all what one would expect for a $400 meal for five. I was embarrassed that it was such a poor representation of a restaurant I’d highly recommended based on a really good previous experience there. I won’t make that mistake again. I hope they work out their issues because the venue is exquisite and the menu really should be exceptional when properly prepared and served.
My Birthday— Bar and wait staff were a delight. The food, however, stood as the marker for its polar opposite.
The service was good and the ambiance was great as well as the food.
We have been here brunch twice and it’s been very good. I love the decor and the service is good.
We had a group of 12 for Sunday brunch, and when we arrived, the restaurant was virtually empty which we found surprising. I was seated at the head of the table, and the waitress asked my husband and I if we wanted coffee and got it for us. Several minutes later I noticed nobody else had anything other than water and I asked my husband if we were the only coffee drinkers, and he said she had not asked anyone else if they wanted any or taken any other drink orders. She finally came back, and a few people ordered coffees and teas. We had to ask more than once where they were, and getting refills was next to impossible. We asked for more creamer for the table, and she brought 2 and set them together at one end of the table, not very conducive for a table of 12! Four of us ordered eggs Benedict, and all 4 of them came with hard boiled eggs instead of poached eggs. That is not eggs Benedict - a brunch staple that I would expect any cook to know how to make properly. The others seemed to enjoy their food - the French toast and chicken and waffles were a hit!
We mentioned the egg situation, and they did offer to remake our meals, but we did not have time for that. The manager was very accommodating and took money off our bill and offered for us to come back to make it up to us. I am willing to give them another try, but my husband was upset about the very poor service by our waitress and he is not convinced he wants to go back.
They were closed....we drove all the way there and despite saying open on their website and on OpenTable the doors were locked and lights were off.
Service was terrible. We were there for over an hour before we ever got our food or even a coffee/ drink refill. We had to go to the bar to order our drinks because the server never asked for them. They even forgot one of our guests complete order and they didn’t get their burger until the end of the meal.
wonderful restaurant, great service and will definitely be back
The restaurant was not crowded but our server was not interested in our table. The four of came here to enjoy brunch and afternoon cocktails. Based on the cost of each cocktail as a server I would have been at our table every time a drink was empty? No such luck?
Service was great, atmosphere was great, food was meh. Definitely not worth the price. With so many other great options in Birmingham, I doubt I’ll be back anytime soon.
Birthday Breakfast with family and friends at the Yard was a nice event. We would like to send a special thanks to our waiter Mark. He did an outstanding job!!!
Always understaffed. Staff don’t seem to know what they’re doing. Food is ok but lots of things don’t seem to be fresh (like the bread that goes with the cheese board). Others are clearly reheated (cold in the middle) and they are using a microwave.
Ordered the octopus for appetizer and you get a single tentacle for $18, it was good, but not $18 good. Then ordered the grouper which was way too salty which we sent back. Swapped it with the fried chicken that did not really have any distinctive flavor. It wasn’t bad, but wasn’t memorable. For spending over $100 on dinner, the only thing I’ll remember was that the meal was forgettable.
Great location, staff was very pleasant. Wine presentation was lacking (horrible wine glasses) and food tasted good but came off like I was cooking it myself for the first time by following a southern living recipe.
We arrived only to find out the restaurant was CLOSED. The service staff went above and beyond to serve us -- namely Sam and our waiter whose name I can't recall. Problem was, there was NO brunch menu and the waiter had to cook our meal because the chef wasn't even there!! This was supposed to be Christmas brunch for our family. very disappointing. But not our wait staff's fault. They were wonderful. Very limited menu. we felt pretty shafted after we had looked at the usual bunch menu online.
Great venue for a Girls Christmas Brunch!
We were seated in the bar area instead of the restaurant. It took a long time for a server to arrive at the table. It was actually the bartender. She said she was subbing for someone. I stay and dine a lot with Marriott. I expected much much better. Not a Bonvoy experience.
The food was exceptional. I absolutely loved my arugula salad, and my filet was like butter - one of the best I’ve ever had. But the service was intrusive...so many times our conversation was interrupted, with “are you ready to order?” or “how is everything?” (We hadn’t even picked up our forks). A good waiter knows to read the table: are they deep in conversation? are they in a hurry? Do they seem to need anything from me? In an upscale restaurant as The Yard purports to be, I do not expect to be asked 3 times “are you ready/have you decided” before the cocktails have arrived. I understand, given the location, that The Yard might be frequented by busy people under time constraints, but on a quiet, non-busy Thursday evening it was disconcerting to be given the impression that we certainly must have someplace else to be.

Yes, you can generally book this restaurant by choosing the date, time and party size on OpenTable. Due to local restrictions, this restaurant may not be accepting reservations at the moment.
