Food was underwhelming, service was extremely slow. Very expensive for the quality of food served.
The Yard is different. On a Saturday, there was no crowd. The last time I dined at the Yard was about a year ago. It was busy, and the food and menu were very high end. The only thing that remains the same are the prices. In terms of food quality and creativity.....very significant downturn. I asked the bar keep what happened....he said there is a whole new staff running the restaurant. I will absolutely not be back.
Great time! Felt the sides were very sparse compared to other restaurants of similar price points. That being said, what was provided was very tasty!
Service was very slow, but the food was good. The saffron shrimp was particularly tasty but was $16 for 5 or 6 medium shrimp and a few pieces of toasted baguette slices. We were there for brunch. I had to ask the bartender to get someone to come bring us the bill after we had not seen our waiter for more than 20 minutes or so. We had reservations but had to wait for a while for a table although the table was empty when we got there and there were not many people in the restaurant. It even took 10-15 minutes to get the three orange juices we ordered from the bar while we waited for the table. No other customers were at the bar. Perhaps they were short staffed. One of our group had a good bit of food left and wanted a take out container but it took so long to get the bill that we did not want to wait for anything else. The guy playing the guitar and singing was awesome.
The wedge salad was delicious. I ordered the sea bass. It was served with a really heavy sauce which ruined the taste of the fish. My date ordered the salmon which she said was delicious. The service was lacking tonight as well. Our server didn't check back with us very often. We had to ask another server for additional drinks, and it took 20 minutes to get them. Outrageous.

It was fine. Not bad, but there was nothing that jumped out to make me want to go back.
Had brunch there. Chocolate Omelette was outstanding. The Elyton Breakfast has potential, but the execution flaws killed it. Bacon was cooked to death. Grits were under cooked and crunchy. Biscuit was half raw dough. The grits were tasty, but inedible. The sausage gravy for the under baked biscuit was excellent. Just too many mistakes in execution. Won’t be back.
The venue is wonderful, the food was ok but nothing spectacular at it's price. The service on this particular visit was sub-par although on prior visits there has been excellent service. I have dined at this location several times since it has opened. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and service has declined significantly since is opened. The valet service to dine now has a charge of $7 dollars. That would be a most acceptable price if the equality of their service was good. This was not the case. It took an extended period of time to get may car after dinner. I had to remind the valet three times that I was waiting. It was a slow night and there was only one other person that he was attending. I hope that this was an isolated incident but overall the experience was a disappointment. As it has declined each time that I have returned I more than likely will not go back.
Everyone’s Steaks were overcooked.. but flavor was great and service was exceptional
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. Both he and I ordered cocktails (the aviation for me and a double shot of redbreast whiskey for him). To our dismay, they were out of both of the alcohols used to make the drinks we ordered. I ordered the eggs in purgatory for my appetizer and it was nasty. I had the bandit salad and salmon for my entree, both of which were very good. The best thing about the yard is the GORGEOUS interior. I felt as if i were in the midst of a restoration hardware catalogue. We had some trouble finding the actual restaurant in the back of the hotel. When we arrived (6-ish), there was no valet outside (or they were busy elsewhere). (we weren't using the valet, just would've helped us get our bearings inside). Nor was there anyone readily at hand inside to ask how to get to the restaurant. This could have been a perk for surprises sake, had I taken the time to pre-scout beforehand. But as it turned out, I felt like a lost, wandering idiot.
Was hesitant of eating at The Yard because of some of the negative comments on Open Table but our friends were in town staying at The Elyton on a Monday night and since a lot of Birmingham restaurants are closed on Mondays, we decided to take a chance and eat here. All four of us had something different – Salmon, Black Grouper, Fried Chicken, and Meatloaf – and we all loved our food - practically licked our plates! The staff were very nice but not hovering while we drank a glass of wine and visited with our friends. I'm not sure why the previous negative comments but we had a delightful dinner in a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend The Yard!
Love the atmosphere, food and friendly service. Third time to dine here & have not been disappointed! Recommend truffle steak.
Just ok not going to go back portions were very small
We were staying at the Elyton for our anniversary and figured we would eat here since it was so convenient and we had been before and the food was fantastic. This time it was not. We got there at 7 and there might have been 3 couples eating, which isn't normal for a friday night. Our appetizer was so bad we told the waitress we were done and took our bottle of wine to our room. We most likely wont be back. I'm assuming there was a chef change since we were there last.
My fish was very salty and the risotto was undercooked.

delicious father's day lunch. lamb, short ribs, and shrimp/grits were terrific. Sorry the desserts weren't available, but the bartender and Eboy were terrific.

It was ok. Husbands salmon was undercooked. Had to send back. By the time it came out the rest of had finished. Waiter comped his meal which we appreciated. Overall it was just ok. Too many other places to go.
I ordered the grouper. It was fishy tasting. Not really sure it was grouper. And way too salty. Very disappointed.
We loved the style of the place. Our salad, steak, and chicken were all excellent.

The highlight of our visit was the service. Everyone was polite and the management took time to check on us. There was definitely missing some attention to detail. The menus were grease stained. Tables were wobbly. Very small menu selection of food. The food we did order was good enough. Not necessary reflective of the price. Again, good service.
Excellent food and wonderful staff. The restaurant is beautiful - it is a good place for a special occasion or simply for having an excellent dinner. I highly recommend The Yard.
Went for brunch. Waited at the front for 20 min before anyone appeared. Rezzies were at 10, early but they were open. Got seated and waitress was nice. Was told they were out of waffles for the chicken and waffle and they’d just opened. Disappointed but our meal was lovely. Biscuits were dry and food was a bit slow coming out but it was good. Would try again.
My wife had gone here just two months ago and loved it. So I made a reservation to take her here for her birthday - I saw a lot of recent one-star reviews after I made the reservation, but decided to roll the dice. A mistake.
It looks like they have fired all the old staff and replaced them with people from off the street. The waiters were clueless, arguing with each other between tables, lights on full it was like a Waffle House (though less efficient). Even the valet parking was a kind of keystone cops affair. I do admit that the steak was pretty good (so they still have one person in the back kitchen that can cook), although the chicken thing with spinach less so. The wine was nice and well chilled. Also, as utterly incompetent as the service staff was, at least they were cheerful and not deliberately rude.
Still, I would have to say, AVOID UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. I don't know what happened here but the restaurant has sort of fallen off a cliff.
When we arrived for our reservation for party of 8 we were taken to a table set for 6. Slow service. Had to ask for utensils. Incorrect sparking water. Some drinks served then a long wait for the rest of the order. Mediocre entrees especially at $38 for what was grouper on the menu and lusted as sea bass on the bill. Table of 8 were given 1 Small size plate of cornbread. They did bring another plate after a long wait. The whole experience was hugely disappointing.
I think this will the the first review, positive or negative, that I've ever left on a restaurant. Sadly, thid experience was terrible. Mother's Day. Even with a reservation, we waited 20 minutes to be seated in a half empty dining room. The service was slow. Very slow. And our orders (salads x 3) took at least 45 minutes to arrive and were incorrect. A side order of hash browns was cold. Not lukewarm, but cold. The spinach on the salad was wilted and there were exactly 2 small pieces of chopped tomato on my salad. Sad. Just sad. It was supposed to be a special occasion meal and it turned into a time vacuum. Plus we left hungry since the food was not edible. As a downtowner, The Yard needs to up its game to reasonably compete with the vast array of equally priced, equally walkable options that we have become accustomed to.
We had a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes To get seated! Once we were finally seated, we didn’t get our meals until an hour and 10 minutes after ordering them. It was such a long wait for average food, and there were a lot of staff for being so slow!!
We had a terrible experience for Mother’s Day brunch. It took 20 minutes to seat us despite a reservation, the food took an hour and none of the items came as described on the menu, we had to send my daughter’s back because it had nuts on it and she has an allergy-the description on the menu did not have nuts! To top off our horrible dining experience, they added 15% gratuity and did not tell us.
We cam for Mothers' Day brunch. Everything was great. There were even several options that appealed to our picky five year old- though this is a fancy place. The only complaint is that the photography on the walls is bad. They look like they came with the frame. Otherwise wonderful.
Food was cold
Lost our reservation, thank fully we called to confirm 2 Days before,we had a large part for a graduation dinner. The poor girl who served us was way in over her head, and no one helped her, 18 drinks delivered one at a time, two meals sent back, we were the only people in the restaurant, and they new we were coming, very disappointed.
Great food service started a little shaky but it came around to be a great all around experience! It is now one of my favorite dining spots in Bham think highlands with a more modern touch!! If you want quality food across the board THE YARD IS the place to go!!!
The food was good but not good enough to compensate for the insanely slow turnover. There were 3 other tables seated in the restaurant when we were seated. Our reservation was at 7:30, and by our own choice (having cocktails at the bar while waiting for our party) we weren’t seated until around 7:50. We didn’t have our entrees until after 10:00 and not because we were slow or difficult or postponing ordering. The food was good and very enjoyable, but I wouldn’t go back. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that I could have paid $35+ for an entree and received better service.
The food was excellent!! Try the chocolate bread pudding.
Good food. Service was poor. Dealt with manager when credit cards were charged incorrectly, and she was unprofessional.
New waitress that apparently had never worked in the service industry. Came to the table two times in an hour and a half. When ordering eggs benedict and omelette asked how we wanted are eggs done.!? Ordered a cappuccino that apparently set at the bar for 30 minutes before they tried to bring it. Had to get up from the table and go to the bar to get drinks on three occasions. The manager there is great and was trying to get to our table but he received so many complaints he never made it to us. Usually a great experience. I hope that was a one-time issue
