THE WOODSMAN IS A TRULY BRITISH RESTAURANT
We use the best British ingredients, all sourced as sustainably as possible.

We love using Wild food, and harvest much of it ourselves. All the meat on our menus is “nose to tail” so the menu is ever changing, and we waste nothing. We even employ our own head ranger to keep the deer herds on the land we manage under control, and have our own deer larder in the Cotswolds where this amazing product is processed.

Our fish comes from day boats in Cornwall.

We work with the seasons, ensuring the very best truly local veg is with us the day after its picked. Our food is cooked over wood from local plantations, and charcoal coppiced less than 20 miles away.

We know the story of everything on the menu.

Our lovely staff are extremely well informed, so, do ask questions on anything you’re not sure of.

Heads up : Only book this restaurant if you are 100% sure that nothing in your plan will change. We had booked a table for lunch. I had confirmed my reservation with every intention of making it. However, due to the unpredictable nature of train schedules in the UK over the summer, our train back from Stratford had been cancelled so we were hoping to take an earlier train. Now while I completely understand the cancellation policy and the need to stick to it, I was absolutely appalled at the insensitivity displayed by the team at Woodsman. First off, they just weren’t able to grasp the fact that we had to take an earlier train and kept telling me I could book a 6 PM table. Secondly, after reiterating multiple times that the request for cancellation was coming on the back of factors completely outside my control, the manager said to me and I quote “We have to charge you because we stand to lose more than you do”. I cannot even begin to explain how tone deaf that was. I kept telling them that if we were to make the reservation, we would have to take a really late train and that would mean we’d get back home really late. To that their response was, “Okay then, see you soon”. So we had to, albeit very begrudgingly, make the reservation and not once were we given an apology for the inconvenience that we went through. Again, I get that cancellation policies are there for a reason but never before in all my time have I encountered a restaurant so rigid and inflexible with their policy. And that too for factors well beyond my control. It’s absolutely safe to say I am so terribly disappointed by this behaviour. The food was average at best, and certainly NOT worth the effort. I hope they can allow for more flexibility in their policies so people who come into town don’t leave with such a sour taste in their mouths.

We love coming to The Woodsman - the food is superb with its dishes based on exceptionally delicious locally sourced meat. Starters are exceptional too. Yesterday's treat was a top class Sunday Roast Lunch, our only complaint being that after 2 courses we had no room for a dessert - all of which looked enticing.... Very good value for money too, which is to be appreciated in this day and age.

It was a hot day but the restaurant AC could not cope. Service appeared disoragnised, albeit our main server was friendly. Food was disappointing overall, the best dish was the pork but the sides lacked flavour, and in the case of the chips somehow despite being triple cooked were actually underdone. My partner’s dessert was also partially melted when he received it.

Had the 8 course taster menu with drink pairing, as a treat for our anniversary. I had a pre call to confirm, warmly greeted on arrival and given 5* treatment the whole visit. The food is the quality you expect and we were both stuffed at the end, not able to manage any of the possible extras you can buy such as cheese and port etc (bear in mind we had 2 plates of dessert already). The food was introduced, and at all times we felt comfortable and attended to. Amazing restaurant. Will return to try some more of their menu. Call out the rabbit samosa’s, mackerel, duck, chicken skin…. All immaculate.

Friendly service. A lovely meal for Father’s Day and appreciated the offer of a free drink for the father. Had sharing lamb and very tasty. The potatoes could be crispier but still 5/5.

I love this restaurant. Everything that can be cooked on the fire is done so right in front of you. Staff are all lovely. The variation of food was incredible and everything was delicious. Great wine pairings as well.

We ordered the Sunday dinner, which was beef. It’s was absolutely amazing and a good sized portion too. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We would strongly recommend this restaurant and would give it 5 stars 🌟
