   Had Sunday afternoon lunch with friends with five children ranging from 8 - 14 in tow. For early October the pub was busy but not overcrowded. We were phoned in advance to ask the age of the children as they were going to put us near to the soft play area - due to the children's ages we requested to NOT be near the soft play area and Laura kindly gave us a table / sat us to the rear of the main bar - this proactive call was most appreciated indeed. I found the pub rather smokey (real fire) but the food quality was very good albeit a little pricey - probably £2 more per dish than I would have preferred to pay. ALL the staff were particularly helpful and we didn't feel pressured or hurried in any way. Main meal food portions were adequate and the home made Plum & apple? crumble was served in a large bowl (enough for two) :-). We found a nice slow circular walk from the rear car park that uncovered elements of the original Bomber squadron airfield, memorial & a small albeit slightly overgrown lake which the kids loved - it took us approx. 1/2 hour. Would recommend the Woodman to all families with those with younger kids making the most of the soft play set up although I would not want to be seated in the same room as the soft play if I did not have young children.
