The Woodman Inn is a family run pub situated in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside, combined with its unique history with the Second World War American air base and the Nuthampstead Airfield Museum just a stone’s throw away, this makes us the destination pub in the area.

Our thatched building boasts a beautiful and traditional adult bar and dining area. You’ll receive a warm welcome all year round, enhanced in the winter months by our well kept open log fire and a beautiful garden during the Summer. We have a separate ‘family area’ for those bringing children under 12 which also has games machines and a soft play area for the children to enjoy. Please advise upon booking if you wish to be seated in this area.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our delicious, homemade food which we create using locally sourced seasonal ingredients and additionally to our menu shown (above/below) will always be 3-4 daily specials.

We care about what our littlest customers are eating and we know you do too! You'll be pleased to know that all of our food is made here, using the best locally sourced ingredients. Please make us aware of any dietary requirements. All meals include a drink of squash or milk. One course - £4.75, Two courses - £6.25, Three courses - £7.25

                                          Had Sunday afternoon lunch with friends with five children ranging from 8 - 14 in tow. For early October the pub was busy but not overcrowded. We were phoned in advance to ask the age of the children as they were going to put us near to the soft play area - due to the children's ages we requested to NOT be near the soft play area and Laura kindly gave us a table / sat us to the rear of the main bar - this proactive call was most appreciated indeed. I found the pub rather smokey (real fire) but the food quality was very good albeit a little pricey - probably £2 more per dish than I would have preferred to pay. ALL the staff were particularly helpful and we didn't feel pressured or hurried in any way. Main meal food portions were adequate and the home made Plum & apple? crumble was served in a large bowl (enough for two) :-). We found a nice slow circular walk from the rear car park that uncovered elements of the original Bomber squadron airfield, memorial & a small albeit slightly overgrown lake which the kids loved - it took us approx. 1/2 hour. Would recommend the Woodman to all families with those with younger kids making the most of the soft play set up although I would not want to be seated in the same room as the soft play if I did not have young children.
