About
always good, cannot overlook the brussel sprouts! quiet and refined.
A limited number of main courses were offered, but each one of us enjoyed our meal. It was a great place to host a special occasion.
Awesome all around. The brussels sprouts are spot-on.
The restaurant is lovely and noise levels are appropriate to actually have a conversation, which is lovely. The food was delicious with the exception of the duck breast which I found a bit mealy and the texture off. The server could have been more attentive, we had to wave her over to take our order, which seemed odd. All that said, we will certainly be going back.
Amazing, like every other experience I've had at The Wolf.
Good service and delicious food, thank you!
Date night
my martini was at least 3.5 oz. The pastrami was very New York (what higher compliment). The service was attentive but not intrusive. my friend and i were left alone when we wanted to be. a very good place to eat
We like this place because the food and service are usually excellent and the atmosphere is pleasant and casual. We've been here several times.
Service was great! Wine list was fun to choose from.
My husband and I decided to try The Wolf for a nice dinner out and were blown away by the atmosphere, food, and service. Although the menu is not extensive, every item was extremely well prepared and covered a variety of choices for meatlovers, pescatarians, and vegetarians. Our waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing and extremely kind. The restaurant itself is incredibly beautiful, with the open space feel of a large patio and overhead string lights. Although the door was open the whole time, installed heaters throughout kept the space at a comfortable temperature, and the room volume never made it difficult to converse. We are waiting for the next opportunity to bring friends and family here for another fantastic experience!
This was our first time here. We always like to try as many things as possible and have no problems in sharing our choices, Appetizers: Oysters - excellent, Fried Brussels Sprouts - awesome, Octopus - delicious and tender. Entrees: Duck breast , grilled Rib eye steak, Niman Ranch Burger and Tagliatelle - all delicious, generous portions and great accompaniments. Dessert: Chocolate Bread pudding with a passion fruit caramel and Warm Apple Crumble - beautifully presented. Service: our Server was Lydia and she was phenomenal. She was very knowledgeable about the ingredients of each dish, answered all of our questions. This was a birthday dinner but had not notified the restaurant of this. When the desserts came there was a Happy Birthday note and a candle which meant that Lydia had overheard us talking about it. Such a thoughtful touch on her part .... kudos to Lydia for her attentiveness. Final note: We will definitely return and feel lucky to have found such a warm, friendly and casual environment.
Best restaurant in Oakland. Amazing food, amazing service, and great ambience.
Only concerns: I reserved an inside table but my wife was seated in the covered area by the door and we had to request for our reserved inside table; had to request for additional water with glasses empty.
Otherwise, service was quite nice, menus excellent and reasonably priced. The specialty offerings were enticing and it’s nice to know the menur changes up. Limited entre selection is fine as all seems well prepared, wonderful sauces along with exquisite presentation. Our final seating arrangement offered ambiance and allowed for normal conversation. We’ll certainly return.
Great food, excellent service and a great overall dining experience
This was my second experience here and I can unreservedly recommend it for a casual lunch or casual work dinner. It's next door to commis, and a bit out-of-the way unless you live nearby, but is worth the short jaunt.
I was really disappointed with the food. Very salty and dinner for two was $200. Over priced for what we got.
I took my best friend to Wolf for her birthday. It was a treat. The food was excellent and creative. We had a black cod dish that was sooo good. The Brussels sprouts were delicious and the portion was BIG. Our waiter was very sweet and was attentive, but not in our faces at all. Whenever we needed something, he seemed to be right there. It was a luxurious meal at a leisurely pace.
Excellent1 . always a treat to dine at The Wolf! The ahi salad and
the roasted chicken salad were both so delicious. Generous amount.
We will be back!
Always love it here!!!
Double date with good friends. Everything we ordered was awesome. Our server was a little rough to start but opened up with smiles by dessert!
We have been here a fee times and every time we order the octopus to start. Everything is artfully and meticulously prepared, the servers are all really friendly and no matter whether you sit in the bar, the dining room, or the covered porch, it is cozy and comfortable experience! We look forward to our next visit!
My husband and I always have a great experience at the Wolf - the food is excellent and the staff is professional, friendly and very accommodating. On this visit, our waitperson was concerned that a delay in the kitchen was going to make us wait a bit for our main course after we finished our appetizer, so she took it upon herself to bring us out an extra appetizer course. The person sitting next to us had a loud voice, and she asked us if we'd like to be relocated. We didn't mind the short wait for the main course, and in other restaurants, we've sat next to far more annoying people. We were okay with both little situations, but our waitress' level of consideration really impressed us.
Excellent food and good quantities. The scallops were expensive.
Amazing food & service!
Delicious lunch on the front porch on a blustery day. Cozy with heating and comfy seating. Quiet enough for good conversation. Pastrami sandwich and hamburger were irresistible, but we will venture further into the menu next time because everything was tempting. As good as its sister restaurant, Wood Tavern.
First time here, but we'll be back. The fried brussel sprouts as an appetizer are amazing. We also shared the Uni Risotto with Scallops and a grilled Ribeye...wowsers! Exceptional food and service.
The food was quite good - not outstanding - but the service took away from the overall experience. Our party of four was “rushed” all night by the wait staff which doesn’t fair we’ll when you’re spending $85+ pp. Nice neighborhood restaurant though. We would attend again, but adjust our expectations and likely just get a “quick bite” for two at the bar. Not the spot for a lingering meal with old friends.
Fabulous oysters, delicious duck liver mousse, great rib eye, but mediocre "Apple crumble"- not up to the quality and refinement expected- not even close to the "Pear Upside down" cake at Wood Tavern- why don't you at least serve desserts that are on a Par with those at the Tavern? Also, waiting 15 minutes, although advised, was a bit long.
My friend and I enjoyed our meal at The Wolf - the wait staff were very easy to talk to, the atmosphere was clean and spacious, and even though it was loud, I liked hearing people having a good time. The food was great, with big portions, and I will return!
Love this place warm friendly delicious food
Great food, great and fast service. Food wine list.
Wolf is just as good as the Bay Wolf used to be. Of course there is a difference in the menu but Wolf excells. The one item I want to compliment is the grape juice spritzer! It is so rare to find specialty non alcoholic drinks!!thanks!!
The service was slow even with a half empty restaurant, the starters are worth skipping over (the little gem salad is just bad, the mushroom soup forgettable, oysters poorly shucked). The duck is good (although it arrived cold) and the scallop dish was the saving grace. Our server was really sweet and the restaurant is pretty but for the price it was incredibly disappointing. I won’t be back.
Great food. Great service. Very relaxing environment.
One of our favorite places! Food, service, including the pacing of the experience, all great, making for a comfortable, relaxing night out. Thanks!
Valentine’s Dau
Seated promptly upon arrival...always a plus. Remodel is well done...subtle, refined. The service was excellent, with our server very knowledgeable about how the dishes were prepared.
The food was cooked excellently, with octopus not being the least bit chewy. Brussels sprouts, fried with “special sauce,” were excellent.
Unfortunately, some other dishes, though expertly prepared, tasted “soulless,” without that special something that personalizes the style of the chef...a flaw, but not fatal.
We came for the Valentine's Day prix fixe meal. Our waitress took her time coming to our table and then when I had questions about the menu since I'm 7 months pregnant, she didn't seem to understand the questions that I was asking to determine which dishes I'd be able to eat. At one point she cleared our appetizers and then came back a minute later to ask us if she had just cleared the first course or entree dishes. It was upsetting that she couldn't remember what plates she had just taken away when it was only a 3-course meal. My husband had to repeatedly try to flag her down to ask for the wine list again so that he could get another glass of wine. She also never came back to check on us after our entrees, since another server brought out our final plates, so we were never asked if we wanted any coffee or tea with our dessert. It was disappointing to be going out for a nice meal to celebrate Valentine's day, just to feel ignored.
The food was very good as always and our server was attentive and nice.
