Well, I don’t think the bartender knew what an old fashioned was, and good thing we had drink tickets. There wasn’t a place to check in for a reservation and not like we needed one, now it’s kind of obvious as to why we were the only two eating.
The cheese curds were good, which made me hopeful for the main course. It was like whoever made the ravioli dish was paid by the amount of salt used. The burger we had was pretty good which is why the review didn’t get only one star.
The waitress gave us our check before I had eaten half of my food, but it’s not like she had any other tables to wait on. Overall, if the theme was literary, nothing but the decor gave it away, and it was obvious that everything was rushed or not thought through.
We enjoyed our meal: calamares and salmon salad. The house wine, both red and white was nice. The servers were extremely polite and attentive. We had cheesecake for dessert. All very tasty. We will go back.
Excellent food! Service was awesome and the ambiance was delightful.
Very slow service.
This was the worst restaurant I have been to in Madison by far. I went there with son for Mother’s Day brunch and was completely underwhelmed by the buffet. I am a vegetarian and asked if the potatoes au gratin had meat and was told no. When I got to my table I saw bacon bits do I asked the waitress if there was meat in there. She said she didn’t know but asked the chef who confirmed that no there was no meat. Upon further inspection I saw bacon bits so I told her to show the chef. He then admitted that yes there was bacon in there. Besides that the bathrooms were filthy as well as the carpet in the main room. Do not go here for any reason. We ended up paying a price fixed of $54 for eating barely anything decent. We went to the diner next door and had a really good brunch instead.
We dined here because it was one of the few places we could get a reservation on Graduation weekend. We were able to increase our reservation to four but not to five. When we arrived, we were informed that only a prix fixe menu was available for $50. Since the restaurant is described as a casual/bar atmosphere, I had assumed that one member of our party could eat lightly. We were told they had called everyone to inform about the menu. I didn’t receive a call. I had included a guest for whom this meal would’ve been cost prohibitive. We negotiated that one person in the party could order just a salad. We decided to stay at the restaurant ONLY because we knew at 6:15 on a Saturday we’d have to wait somewhere else. As it turned out—the restaurant was mostly empty. Clearly they could’ve accommodated our extra person if they had come. THEY NEEDED TO INFORM US OF THE SPECIAL MENU IN ADVANCE! The food was very good but probably more than we wanted to eat. And this is Madison—not Chicago—$50 is more than average.
Tunes, Taps, and Tacos is a great evening out. The food and beer are priced right and both are yummy with many different choices. The service was wonderful, attentive without being intrusive. The decor is very interesting; we liked the texture and soft, non-walls. We know the proximity to Camp Randal Stadium makes this a part time sports bar thus televisions are necessary we however thought the televisions in the toilets were a little much. Over all, we liked it, we'll go back, and we've already recommended the Wise to a couple of friends. You should go.
Lights were pretty bright for Valentine’s Day, & they had a tv onwith a “pimple popper” commercial on. Food was great! Wait person was very responsive!
Love this place!!!!
it really isn't a restaurant per say. It was very loud with men playing baskets.
Salmon was excellent, service was great I will definitely go again!
It is always a treat to have a cocktail and a meal at the wise. Small setting, never too loud and quality is their #1 goal-from breakfast to dinner. Fun drink and appetizer selection make it a unique spot-even if you aren’t staying the night in the hotel. Enjoy!
We were staying at the hotel, and decided to check out its restaurant - bad idea! Although I was looking forward to a fish fry that evening, the rest of the people in my party weren't pleased that they were piloting their first ever fish fry centric menu for dinner that night (no burgers or other usual entrees available). There were probably 3-5 other tables of 2-4 people in the restaurant, so not busy at all. We waited approximately 15 minutes to order drinks, then another 15 minutes to receive them. The drinks were mixed poorly - the Jack old fashioned's tasted much too sweet, and the tito's mixers we ordered were very weak. Server was not able to answer questions about the fish menu, and from the time we ordered our meals (which were all items that take under 5 minutes to cook) it took approximately 55 minutes. Also, no lemon wedges and those who ordered fried shrimp received tartar sauce and no cocktail sauce. They didn't have any, so the server indicated they would make some. 10 minutes later, she indicated they did not have the ingredients (isn't it just ketchup, horseradish and worchestershire?) so someone ran out to buy a bottle. Another 10 minutes later, and after my friend waited to receive it, she indicated it was not coming. We asked for our checks, everyone received incorrect checks, and at that point, we asked for compensation for the 2.5 hour "QUICK DINNER" we were going to have at the hotel restaurant, and they begrudgingly offered us each 1 free drink coupon. They need to get their act together. It is not on par with the level of hotel that it is. By the way, if you're going to have a fish night, you should definitely make sure you have all the necessary ingredients to do it right, and staff that has tasted the items and can make recommendations.
Had dinner using the restaurant week menu, not sure I would have tried the menu otherwise, but everything was fantastic!
Thought we'd give this place a try as the online menu and visual appearance looked great. However, upon arriving and discovering that we were the only people in there on a Saturday night at 7pm, well that should have told me to run for the hills. The food took forever, and my "basic burger" was possibly the worst I've ever experienced. Two thin burnt patties stacked inside a boring bun. The waiter apologized for his inattentiveness due to him training someone, but if he's doing the training, this place doesn't stand a chance. They actually forgot our 2nd round of drinks until we were leaving...mindbogglingly poor experience overall.
Nice brunch service with outside and inside dining options. Well thought out farm to table options that highlight some larger Wisconsin brands. Service was good and attentive - menu priced less than other options up on the square and cheaper than most hotel dining options.
We went for the Mothers' Day Brunch. When we arrived, it was not clear where we were to be seated and it took some minutes to find out. This brunch was a buffet and cost $20.00 which seemed a bit high. The food overall was very good but no labels on anything. There was excellent salmon and the eggs and french toast were fine. The main issue seemed to be service organization although our waitress was very good and attentive. I have been here for regular breakfast and thought that was very good and the prices were quite reasonable.
