This restaurant feels much more like a bar than a restaurant --very noisy and people standing right next to your booth because of the high pub tables. Food was good and so was the beer however.
We were seated at a corner table on the 2nd floor in an area that had just a few other occupied tables. It was a Saturday night at 7:45[, bit not very busy at all. Despite this, no one came by for at least 15 minutes. Once the waiter arrived he took my drink order and then disappeared for another 10 minutes. Fed up at this point, we walked out. We mentioned to the hostess that we were leaving because we were basically ignored and her only responses was "Oh, wow. Sorry." No offer to fix the situation or seat us elsewhere. Later that night another member of the waitstaff saw us walking down the street behind the building after having dined elsewhere. She recognized us and apologized for the misunderstanding. Nice gesture but too little, too late. Will never go there again but as I know understand it they are closing in January. I can see why!
This establishment is under new ownership. The menu currently on open table is not the current menu. The previous menu was more in the style of a gastropub. The current menu is simple bar food. Stay away from the flat bread. There is nothing flat about it. The burgers are ample sized but tasteless. This place has devolved into nothing more than a bar that serves food.
We had great service - both from the host and the server. But the menu is very limited and boring. There are just so many other options in the area. This building has changed hands so many times - it is in a great location and should entice a really good restaurant. this isn't it.
the hostess kept trying several times to seat people in the middle of the room when booths were available. food was ok, nothing bad but nothing spectacular either, though.
We had a really good time. There were just two of us but it seemed all the servers were involved in serving us. We sat upstairs, the food and drinks were delicious. Thanks.
Several great beers on tap. Very large place (3 floors). Server was attentive but we were one of 2 tables in that area. Our food selection and taste was good. However they messed up the sauce on our appetizer and also messed up how two meals were cooked. The steak was supposed to be mr, it was well. Our burger was supposed to be well, it was mr. But noone came to check if everything was even ok. Luckily were not super picky so we at it and flavor was good.
We stopped in after some shopping and had a very nice and relaxing lunch upstairs. The food does not disappoint and we always have great service.
Food, although not on the healthy side, was very good. Service was very good. Did not get to the rooftop patio but plan to go there next time, would be a great atmosphere on a fall evening.
We had a great experience with our monthly dinner group last night. The food, ambiance and especially our server, Stephanie, made for a memorable evening. Several of our group had never been there but said they would definetly return.
For Downtown Naperville, the price of the food and beverages was very good.
Food selection as a little modest, but what was on the menu was very refined and fitting for the establishment.
Went here with a couple of friends for a girls night out. Got seated upstairs which was surprisingly empty. Our waiter, who also served as the bartender, although friendly was not attentive whatsoever. We ordered the crab cakes and sweet & sassy shrimp, which we loved so much we requested another order. Sadly though it never arrived as our waiter forgot about our table and our food (rather pathetic when our table was directly in front of the bar!). Couldn't even order a second round of drinks and practically had to tackle the other waitstaff for water. I'd been warned that the service was not the best; however, this was ridiculous considering the prices they charge. Kind of sad really since the food was outstanding.
We were looking to grab dinner before going to a play at Summer Place Theater. There is an excellent selection of beer available. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. I had their beef stroganoff special. It was unique and delicious.
The Wise Boxer Pour House is a great location if you're looking for a large selection of beers. The burger I had was also very tasty. Service was very nice and attentive. Overall a great place to hang out with friends.
Our server (Sean) was very knowledgeable of the menu. I was especially impressed when he had tried food from the menu. Its a good feeling to know the staff eats at the restaurant. Outstanding service!!!!
The food is always great and the staff is very friendly.
Food is great! Service is spotty, we have had great service in the restaurant...& not so good on the patio. If you offer a patio...it needs to be as wonderful as the inside for service.
I wouldn't go out of my way to go back again. Definitely wasn't a need to make a reservation.
The nachos (with chicken & guacamole) were great. The beer selection is good. The fun factor is wonderful.
good food but lousy service. I asked for RAW onions on my burger, she had them put onion RINGS on it and charged me for them. She showed up twice to the table as others brought the food.....
The service was amazing! I asked the waiter to recommend a beer and he sounded very knowledgeable. The food was okay, the cheese fries were delicious, but my chicken poblano sandwich was not so good, it was fried chicken with fried onion straws as well, it just was too overwhelming with fried food. My fiancé had the buffalo chicken grilled cheese and it was good. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was nice, wide open walking areas which didn't make it feel crowded, it definite had a pub feel to it. I would definitely go back, but pick a different dish.
The food here was excellent! I had the grilled mahi tacos and my husband had the pork grilled cheese. Both dishes were well made and timely. The service was wonderful and the staff brought out a sauce that I wanted to try and I ended up putting some on my tacos. We will be back. Plenty of room and TVs to watch the game. The only complaint was that they couldn't figure out how to turn the music off with a playoff hockey game on the TV which most were there to see.
My wife and I had a date night at The Wise Boxer Pour House. We ended up sitting at the bar and having dinner. The food was very good and the service excellent. We caught some hockey and chatted with the owner. Great beer selection.
Fast staff, food came out great. I would eat here again.
I requested a booth when I made the reservation and was not seated in a booth when I arrived. I was going to ask to be moved but the hostess talked about other things the entire time we were going to the table...at that point I was happy to sit anywhere.
Also, the server seemed a little slow. Maybe he had too many tables but was not able to get to our table veg often.
Food was outstanding! Had burgers, sliders, nachos, tomato-mozarella salad, bacon-wrapped filet medallions, wine, beer, mmmmm..... We loved each of our meals! Our server, Rob, was wonderful. We will definitely be back!
The Wise Boxer Pour House is a great place to go for food and drinks. My girlfriend and I went with another couple, we all loved the food we had. Big propositions on the burgers and sandwiches! I had the juicy lucy (stuffed cheese burger) and it was big and awesome! My girlfriend ordered one of the many grill cheese sandwiches and it was very good as well. Beer and alcohol variety was good as well. Our waitress, Tiffany, was really good. I had order a beer, could not be found in the building (apparently the beer was being discontinue by the restaurant), Tiffany was able to find the last can by looking on all three levels of the building! It was a great meal at a great restaurant with great friends. Only complaint (not really complaint - more a desire) was there was not enough fries on the plate (fries were good)!! Great place! Should be heading back soon!
Server was a little odd; she rushed but didn't bring menus right away. Food options were nice. There were some unusual things from their seasonal menu. We went for Mother's Day lunch.
I made the reservation on Mother's day, 2 h prior to my need, it was rainy day. We were seated right away, but waited for the menu and the orders to be made for some time. Once our order was taken, we got great food and service. We had excellent time!
took the family here for mothers day brunch. we were seated downstairs and the brunch was upstairs. the upstairs area was 1/2 empty and we had to carry our plates down each trip to the buffet. Food was marginal, not a good selection and it was $30/each. Next time we are going to Ditka's for brunch
I read reviews on Wise Boxer before making our reservation. One reviewer equated the food to that served at Chilis or TGIFridays. I'm not sure which chain that person goes to that serves anything similar to White Cheddar Biscuts with Duck Gravy, but I'd like to know because it was INCREDIBLE. Seriously, try it. My husband ordered it and when the server took the plate back, there wasn't a trace of gravy left. I had the Brisket and Smoked Cheddar Melted Cheese, partly expecting to have to go Caveman on it because brisket is rarely cooked to where is it melt in your mouth tender, but they nailed it. I took half home and kept smelling it while walking around after dinner. It took all my will power to not start chowing while walking down Jefferson. We got the mozzarella coins as an appetizer and they were good, but for the amount we got, it was WAY overpriced. Entree prices were certainly fair for the quality produced. Would absolutely recommend.
The menu and drink selections were great. The food quality is extremely good now. Desserts are fantastic.
Food was okay, we expected better food for the price and atmosphere.
We had reservations on a Saturday evening and were seated promptly.
The server was at our table within a minute of seating and was thorough and very friendly throughout the whole experience.
We continued with our drinks and conversation after dinner and weren't chased out of the restaurant.
The food was very good and the bar service was equally good.
We would go back in a second and have added to our list of regular restaurants.
It was my 30th birthday and we had a reservation for a group of 10 for 8pm.....45 minutes later we were seated. By this time my guests no longer wanted appetizers and just wanted to have a few drinks and do birthday cake. Management was not accommodating and our server was inattentive! It seemed like the place was under staffed and our server was attending to too man guests. Most of my guests were in couples and instead of asking ahead of time if we would like separate checks she waited until we were ready to leave to try and seperate the checks. We waited what seemed like forever for her to get it right! Needless to say after we were through with our table we went to the bar area and had an amazing time dancing!
I had the Juicy Lucy burger and fries. Both had great flavor and would have been very good if they hadn't been cold. Not to worry our waitress will be by to see how our food is. We saw her when it was time for the check. Wanted another beer and my wife wanted another glass of wine - too bad for us! My wife had the Cobb salad and did not like it at all. When the server (not the waitress) brought the food he asked if we needed anything else - my wife asked for more dressing. Just like our waitress - it did not showed up either. Lots of filler in the salad - my wife was disappointed - not going to make the same mistake again!
This was out first visit to Wise Boxer and we will definitely return.
I expected the inside to be a little more "hip", but it was pretty basic bar decor (with brown tape covering tears on the booth seats), but the food was excellent and more that usual expected bar food. Our service could have definitely been better, but in defense she was running all over and seemed to have a high number of table to cover.
We will definitely be back because of the food!
Went for dinner. Menu was limited. I guess I was expecting more than bar food. Service and atmosphere were fine.
One of the better nachos I've had in Naperville. That alone, will lead to me coming back here. Decent craft beer list too.
