Drinks arrived before food - champagne toast arrived as we had one oyster left. Dinner was the same. We ordered a beautiful bottle of red wine and we were nearly finished while waiting an hour for our entrees.
The wine list is really expensive- triple retail.
The chilled appetizers and desserts were great however anything cooked was gross and overcooked. Not even edible.
I just wanted to make sure I write this review to express my gratitude for the great employees at The Winery Restaurant. Yesterday was one of the best Mother’s Day‘s I’ve ever had thanks to the great service, great food, and great drinks we received. I consider myself to the lemon drop queen, and the lemon drops here were PREFECT!food was seasoned to perfection! Only think was the Mac could use some “umph” to it, but was good w/the meal. My mom and I were excited to try this restaurant because of the stellar reviews. We went with my God-mother and God-sister, who also thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the meal. As I was in there, I was actually texting others raving about how great it was. Our reservation did start off a little shaky because we checked in late and had to miss the brunch options, but I wasn’t tainted by that so much because I had already looked at the menu and saw some great options prior to going there on Mother’s Day. Our waiter was Dakota. There was a couple of times or he forgot a couple of things. I’m assuming this happened because it was a busy day and bouncing from table to table can be hectic. But he redeemed himself with his awesome personality and great knowledge of the menu and drink options. I also got a kick out of him because I told him he’s the second person I’ve met with that name and I always said if I had another child the name would be Dakota. He said maybe it was our server yesterday (on Mother’s Day) so that was funny. We had a great time! Jonathan came around to our table a few times and he was great. Super nice, very attentive, great energy and a nice smile :) On our way out, we also met Michael, who was great, as well. We cracked a couple of jokes with him about masks and I expressed to him how great Jonathan was. We also talked a bit about the music selection here, which was great yesterday. It was such a good vibe. We talked and laughed the entire time. Thank you all so much for an awesome Mother’s Day! See you soon!!
The waitress was wonderful but overworked. She wasn't able to keep up with us, but clearly because she was managing to many tables. When our food came, two of the dishes were incorrect and one of them was inedibly burnt. It's unfortunate because I've eaten here for dinner and it was wonderful. I would recommend coming for dinner, but not brunch.
We went for Mother's Day brunch, a prix fixe menu of 2 courses for $55 per person. The choices for starter and entree were aplenty. However, there were all sorts of problems. The wait staff got one of our starters wrong twice! The poke seemed to have no sauce, so it was almost tasteless, but otherwise fresh fish. The burrata starter was skimpy, had almost no tomato, one very small heirloom cut into 4 pieces. Then, for entrees, one of us had the short rib hash with eggs. There was literally one tiny piece of short rib and we had to send it back. Also, my egg white frittata had sat under the heat lamps and gotten overcooked and tough, so were the eggs on the first short rib hash.
I would definitely NOT return on any kind of holiday. They are not equipped to cook and serve properly, plus for what we got, it was incredibly overpriced. The Winery in Tustin has given us much nicer food and better value. Expensive, but worth it. So disappointed in The Winery La Jolla on Mother's Day.
Service was excellent. My entree was delicious. Bottomless mimosas was awesome. They kept my glass full the whole time. My mom ordered the steak eggs Benedict. It was also delicious and steak was cooked perfectly. Rated one star leas because the eggs on the eggs Benedict was over cooked.
Excellent service, excellent food and beautiful restaurant.
We are repeat customers, and love The Winery. The only thing that went wrong this time was that a few of our entrees were room temperature. It was a holiday, so sometimes hectic, and didn't impact our enjoyment of the evening. The staff here is wonderful and friendly, and I rated the food lower only in this instance as it wasn't served hot.
The food is outstanding! The service was superb. A wonderful place to dine
Sat next to the mall inside and environment felt like you were sitting in a dining hall. No plants, no accessories on tables, high top tables, made you feel like you were in the wrong place for the diner experience. Food was great with amazing tastes for earlier dinner. But no coffee at 6:00.
Reservations made it easy to dine. Food came in fast. Dining experience was average, nothing spectacular. Service was average. Dessert was ok.
Always a great experience! Hannah is super helpful, along with all the other staff members.
Food was great, good atmosphere. Salt was amazing!
It was our first time there and it was amazing! Although we waited for our food to come out for a while, it was well worth the wait. Our server was also great and tended to us when we needed anything else. Food was BOMB AF!!! Will definitely go again!
We are longtime North county residents but had never been to this fabulous restaurant. The location is perfect - in the heart of UTC. Food and ambiance was wonderful. But what made our night was Maddie the hostess. Upon realizing it was our first visit, she picked the perfect table. She and manager (Linda I think)...were so kind and went above and beyond. We’ll definitely be back!
The food & service was Amazing!
Great place, great food and ambiance. Definitely worth coming here for our 9 year anniversary.
The food is alway excellent. Service is a little slow due to lack of servers (pandemic impact?).
Always the best dining experience!
Delicious food and awesome staff!
Truly one of our favorite restaurant.
Cristina & Brent
First time back since pandemic and whole experience was excellent.
Food, ambiance and our waiter Michael were awesome! Will definitely come back!
The food was amazing!!!! Cocktails a must!
Great. Excellent food and service
My steak was not medium well. It was not butterflied. I had to wait for it to go back to the kitchen and cook some more. We were waiting around for water, my cocktail was forgotten, we had to ask for silverware, and it was just a bad night. The waitress didn’t seem to really know what she was doing.
Food was pricey and just okay, nothing new or amazing. Service was not the best. It’s called the Winery but I had to ask myself for an ice bucket for the bottle of wine I ordered. The server did not even help us to put the bottle in the ice bucket or to refill our glasses. I expected more.
The Winery is always GREAT! Food is always beautiful and delicious.
Hands down the best meal of entire vacation! The service was stellar, food exquisite, atmosphere beautiful! Highly recommend.
It was a very nice meal with nice people and the owner was going table to table to ensure everyone was having a good time. I like that personal touch!
Good ambiance, food pricy but worth it, nice day, would recommend it
Birthday dinner was a greet experience with high end service staff and over and above Attention to customers needs. I would commend to anyone who is in the La Jolla area for dinner.
Food and service has always been excellent. I feel the value and price is a bit steep. Our party of 4 spent 500 with tip for drinks, appetizers and entrees.
The service and food was top notch as always.
Great outdoor patio. Excellent food, particularly the Chili rubbed Mahi.
Our overall experience was good. Service was a little bit lacking. The food on the other hand was delicious! We ran out of room for dessert, so we’ll probably make one more trip out to see how good they are. Overall, not a bad dining experience.
It was amazing!
So nice to finally be able to enjoy the Winery again. Many restaurants provide service and food quality at levels far below pre-pandemic standards. The Winery did not miss a beat and the food was outstanding
Really tasty duck and brussel sprouts
Waitress paid excellent attention to my food allergies
We have never been to the restaurant and the service and food were great! Our server’s name was
Got charged $20 water without a heads up. They ask if you want water then charge you $20 a bottle
