We’ve dined at The Whitney many times in the past. I’m sorry to say that The Whitney has lost its charm. We waited so long for our food. I don’t like added salt to my food and that is considered a special request and the reason we waited an hour for our dinner. My husband ordered coffee after dinner and asked for cream. It came after a long wait and the coffee was cold by then. Just very disappointing when this has always been a special place. Also, we were seated for dinner in the study on the 3rd floor by the Ghost Bar. The room as dark and run down. Not a reflection of such a beautiful and historical home. So very disappointing, especially when the prices were high for the food and the selection with small and average food. We probably won’t be back, sadly.
We were surprised with our Anniversary printed on top of our menu. The server was so knowledgeable about the house and things going on downtown, it was wonderful. The food was perfect. Thank you.
The service was excellent and the ambiance was great. Had to hunt down vallet when we arrived which caused a delay. We were there for 70th birthday tea. They could not accommodate 2 gluten free guests but the server tried her best to bring a salad.
Overhead music was very loud and it was hard to hear as the other party seated nearby were loud. We asked that the music be turned down but it was not. The food was a disappointment. The tea sandwiches were not appealing and the little cakes for dessert
we’re just ok. Looked like it all had been made the day before. Best part was the apple tea so that is not saying much. Again.. server was delightful and gracious but I would not recommend tea at the Whitney.
Excellent high tea with wonderful ambiance. The mansion is beautiful and the live piano adds to the mood. Perfect spot for a special occasion with nice variety of filling high tea treats and lovely presentation.
A lovely place for a first date. Amazing food and atmosphere. The service was top notch. We will definitely will be back.
Every room in the Whitney is a piece of art to soak in and enjoy. The food is always good, prepared properly, and the staff is always warm and accommodating. One of our favorite Detroit restaurants, especially for special occasions.
We decided to experience what the Whitney had to offer for my mother in law’s 75th birthday. While we had only heard and read great things, the night exceeded anything we could have imagined. The ambiance, food, and service was exemplary and we have already begun planning our next excuse for a return visit.
A lovely home with beautiful appointments to admire throughout your delicious four-course dining experience. A culinary delight with history!
I took my best friend to the Whitney for High tea for her birthday and it was everything she wanted! To some it may seem pricy, but the experience itself was worth it. If you are expecting a big meal for the cost, this is not it. If you are looking to feel like you are in London or into aesthetic things and an insanely beautiful old mansion, this is it.
Amazing experience at the Whitney. We were seated a bit late due to how busy they were because of a wedding downstairs and were immediately treated to house champagne at our table due to the wait. Everyone on staff was wonderful and the food was incredible.
I have to say we were disappointed in the overall experience. Our reservation was at 7:30pm and we weren’t seated until 8:15. Our server was nice, but was slow at times. We would see her every 20 mins or so. Our food sat on a tray for 5-10 mins before being brought to our table. We chose to pass on dessert just to get out of the restaurant because it was already 10pm. For the time it took to get everything, waiting another 30 mins or so wasn’t worth sticking around for dessert. It was fun to say we went, but most likely won’t be going back.
An iconic place. Rich in history and ambiance. Food was good but not great
GO TO THE WHITNEY for afternoon tea. The staff, food, service, and Victorian Mansion are impeccable.
Excellent food and service. Beautiful gardens. Staff was generally outstanding. Due to the 4 o’clock Wedding we felt a little rushed in exploring the estate after our 1:30 tea time.
Nice atmosphere. Nice tour included. Food was just ok.
Thank you for a great evening.
Beautiful building. Valet service quick and friendly. Service was exceptional. Truly a wonderful experience for a first date.
Best experience!!! Definitely will be back!!
Everything was amazing
Ambiance was really nice! Food and service Excellent!
My birthday four-course dinner was exquisite! Each course was presented beautifully and the taste was beyond my expectations. Thank you to everyone at the Whitney for making each and every patron feel fabulous.
My husband and I have been going to the Whitney now for a while. We have had many date nights there, we had our wedding there, and we will celebrate every anniversary there. Starting with the rich history of the building, the ambiance and beauty of this place is truly like no other. The food and drinks are a bit pricy, however the portions are generous and the quality is definitely worth it (We are die hards for the Beef Wellington every time). Lastly, yet most important to us is how welcoming and professional the entire staff is. Each time we go we enjoy seeing new faces to the Whitney team and love seeing the ones that we recognize from even our wedding. Our most recent visit this weekend, the new manager Jeffrey, our server Victoria and the bartender up at the Ghost Bar, Alfred were all new faces to us. They are made our night very special and memorable, from the extraordinary service, to the small talk, to the personalized menus, to the special anniversary gifts. We appreciate and love the Whitney and would recommend it to anyone as fine dining spot in Detroit.
First time at The Whitney for our first anniversary, and everything was wonderful! Highly recommend for a special occasion dinner!
Mansion Tea was a wonderful experience! Food & Service were fabulous, plus our server gave us a mini tour of the building and shared its history. We were able to walk through the upper floors after our brunch. Highly recommend!
It’s always a pleasure but we went to the tea service for the first time yesterday. Oh my! The tea sandwiches and hot orsd’oevres were fantastic.
The entire experience at the Whitney, including the Ghost Bar, is exceptional. It is a Detroit treasure.
This restaurant is an experience of stepping back in time to the early days of Detroit. The staff is the very best I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with, from entering the restaurant until leaving. I wish I could give it an outstanding + review. The Ghost Bar was a treat as the bartender was so informative about the mansion's history and the ambience of being in such a grand place was like something I have never experienced. We were seated in what we feel was the best seat in the mansion overlooking Woodward Avenue. The food and presentation from the first course to the dessert was so special. It was our 45th Wedding Anniversary and the dessert came on a silver tray which the waitress had written with a gel, Happy 45th Anniversary. Such a very special touch and something we will both remember forever. I will definitely be back as this was our first time here and hopefully not the last!!!
We celebrated our first year anniversary and the Whitney was the perfect place to celebrate. The food and service were amazing. We will definitely be coming back in the future!
Stephen and Phyllis were amazing!!!!!!
Stephen went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience.
Great place for a special occasion. Very high class service and food. Take a complimentary tour while you are there, very cool history!
We always enjoy our meal and the ambience at the Whitney!! Great food and great service.
Service was spectacular and Paige was an amazing waitress that made the experience wonderful. The pianist in the lobby made for a wonderful ambiance. The food was spectacular.
Celebrated my birthday at The Whitney! Great experience! Definitely go for the tour after dinner for some history of the property!
Great restaurant! We love the scaled down yet focused menu. The lobster bisque is creamy and one of the best. We had the Beef Wellington with cognac sauce.
Surprised my wife for our anniversary. We loved it. Took a tour after dinner, it was spectacular. Beautiful mansion with tons of history. Highly recommended
The best meal and service we have ever had anywhere. Top notch all the way around.
Everything was great but the value of food. It was a basic menu for the price paid. Upgrade menu or lower the price.
Always a special experience, love hearing the staff anecdotes about the history. The food and drinks are great. We were celebrating something dumb when we last went and the entire staff got really into celebrating with us which was very fun. Also, you get four courses with the cost of your entree which might seem really pricy at first to lots of us, but for four courses it’s very good value. Truly great experiences here only, if you’re thinking about it definitely try it!
Great place for a great meal and a Detroit landmark. Every Detroiter needs to do this at least once.
