The afternoon tea was excellent. Good selection, taste, and service.
Very nice tea with delicious food in a gorgeous setting.
Very disappointing food, the halibut was very dense and without flavor. The shrimp and scallop dish was overly creamy and lacked flavor. The black bean soup was extremely good.
Waitress was outstanding. Very good food and service.
Very nice atmosphere and waitstaff was very attentive. Menu for Tea needs to have more than one vegetarian option.
It was great! There was a bridal party so some things were closed off and people were everywhere BUT I will absolutely be coming back for paranormal tour and ghost bar!! I highly recommend.
Tony was very welcoming! Steven was our waiter, excellent service!
My girlfriend and I came here for her birthday celebration and loved every bit of it. Service from John was awesome and the experience was more than we expected!
Me and the wife decided on The Whitney for a date night. We are both extremely happy that we did. The manager Darren was awesome as well as our server. We started at the bar and ordered a couple drinks. I ordered the "dress to impress" which was incredible. For dinner I ordered the beef wellington and the wife ordered the filet. Both cooked to perfection and flavored beautifully. Wife stated that the dressing on the salad was probably the best dressing on a salad she's ever had(she's extremely picky). The server was kind enough to get her a small cup of it to go.
All in all I would give this a 10 out of 5 stars if I could and we will definitely be going back!
Thanks for a great birthday dinner. It was a little bit over priced during these troubleing times.
Gorgeous, extravagant historic mansion. Nothing like it in the southeastern Michigan region.
The Whitney was by far one of the best places to spend our anniversary. The house was beautiful, the staff was knowledgeable, and the service was impeccable. Not to mention the food was delicious! I highly recommend showing up early and get a chance to see the entire house.
It was all very nice, the young man who plays the piano is amazing. We have seen him before. Hope he continues to play at the Whitney
Beautiful setting. Afternoon tea was elegant. Lots of choices of different appetizers and finger food. Been there plenty of times over the past 30 years but this was the best outing by far. Lots of families and children…piano music was perfect as was my $14 Bloody Mary 😆. Worth every penny.
This was a very unique experience to celebrate an anniversary! It was interesting learning about the history of the Whitney while having a very elegant tea time.
We had an amazing experience, some of the best service we have ever had. This is truly a hidden gem of Metro Detroit. The food was great, ambiance, seclusion, and the list goes on. We will definitely be back to celebrate special occasions here.
Of course, for a special occasion, the Whitney is the place. We actually had a good time with friends. The service was attentive and kind, but the food was just awful. And way overpriced. The salad was haphazardly thrown together with old greens and a few berries tossed in. The flour in the base of the lobster bisque was uncooked making the texture glumpy and flavorless. The presentation of the polenta dish was so unattractive! Like a scoop of unknown lunchroom food tossed onto the plate. The Beef Wellington was smothered with a congealed sauce that covered the one signature aspect of the dish: the pastry! There was hardly any pastry and it had no golden crust, no design, nothing but starch. There were two scallops and three shrimp in a dish that cost $76.95! They were well cooked, but the dish had no presentation, no style. A sloppy sauce and a handful of peas thrown into a ceramic dish. The cheese bread was great. One piece per person. No gracious, bounteous basket. Just assembly line. I understand that all restaurants are suffering after COVID. I am grateful that there is a place to go to celebrate. I just hope that as things get better that the kitchen will spend some time on designing dishes that have some eye appeal.
Also, the tour was so awkward! I felt embarrassed to be crowding around the doorways. The tour guide was obviously tired and it was impossible to hear him. Perhaps the Whitney could record a self guided tour, give out the URL so that guests could listen on their phones, filter through one-by-one and spend time looking at the rooms a their own pace and discreetly peek around corners without disrupting the diners.
I had the pleasure of bringing my best friend here for the Mansion Tea as a celebration of her upcoming wedding. Our hostess, Annie, was wonderful. She had a pleasant and inviting personality, and took the time to give us a brief history of the Mansion. The tea sandwiches, pastries and desserts were delicious.
Everything was outstanding! The entire experience was amazing from the moment we drove onto the beautiful property to the time we sat back in our vehicle! Everyone was fabulous and the food was excellent, especially our waitress!! Thank you all so very much! A 10 out of 10 and beyond!
Wonderful experience!!! Loved everything about our dining experience. Looking forard to coming back!!!
Everything was spectacular, like the day my husband and I were married in the outside garden in 2007. We will be coming back again for another anniversary dinner.
This iconic restaurant provided an outstanding dining experience . Beyond the delicious food there is an extremely entertaining guided tour of the property which helps the diner to appreciate the full experience of dinner at The Whitney.
Food was okay, sea bass special was wet and polenta was bland. Sorbet was delicious. Piano player was excellent but neighboring tables were quite loud. Serving was average, sometimes long delays waiting for service including water upon sitting and receiving check. Altogether an average dining experience that is maybe not worth the price paid.
The wait staff was superb! Our dinners were exceptional, well prepared and well presented. All the staff really went out of their way to help us celebrate our anniversary including special menus and dessert brought out on a silver tray with a lovely message written in icing about celebrating our anniversary. One of the best dining experiences we have had in a very long time.
There for my wife's 70th Birthday with our two daughters. We were there 30 years ago and my wife always wanted to go back. I forgot how great the place was. The food the service was unbelievable as I remembered it.
It was my daughters 16th birthday. From the time we walked inside we were treated like royalty. She enjoyed the food and Stephens service was superb. He gave us details about the mansion and food that enhanced the elegance of the afternoon. We will definitely be back. Thanks for giving my Sweet 16 a memorable experience.
I waited most of my life to finally go to this place. It was on my bucket list. It did not disappoint. The piano music was amazing!!
We had the best time enjoying tea service this past weekend. The food was delicious, service was outstanding (thank you again, Stephen), and a wonderful time was had by all members of our party. Thank you for helping make our event so special!
This reservation was for my parents 43rd wedding anniversary. I called The Whitney hours before their reservation to inquire about the dress code; I also mentioned to them that my parents will be making the reservation as it is for their 43rd Anniversary.
I received major points from my parents because The Whitney went all out for them.
They told me they enjoyed the entire experience. The service, food and the ambiance!
The mansion is fabulous and the dining ambiance is marvelous for celebrating a special occasion or just a great night out. Unfortunately the food was an exceptional disappointment. In addition to being wildly overpriced it was poorly prepared. We had the beef Wellington and the vegan option which was polenta with vegetables that night. The polenta was so salty as to be inedible and had to be sent back. The improv replacement was tasty enough and for $20 would have been reasonable, not $60. The beef Wellington was poorly done. The pastry was thin and undercooked, so soggy. The pate/duxelles layer was so sparse as to be nearly invisible and hardly contributory to the overall flavor of the dish. The filet itself was fine and cooked to order but overall for an $80 dish a huge disappointment. The wine list was small but well crafted and the service was good. The highlight of the evening was the after dinner tour. The historian did a great job and was quite entertaining.
Overall a very uneven visit. As an ‘experience’ well worth the visit, as a meal a very expensive disappointment. Glad we went. Doubt we will return.
Excellent food and atmosphere!!! Would highly recommend for any celebration or special night!
food was excellent service was very good there was a piano player
Great Birthday Experience. Waiter was outstanding.
I was surprised there wasn’t a choice of tea. And having only one flavor; hibiscus isn’t the best choice. Earl Gray or Breakfast would have been better.
Never disappointed at the Whitney. The food was well prepared, and delicious. The ambiance is classy and elegant. The service is bar none. Always go up to the Ghost Bar for a drink either before or after the meal.
Great birthday celebration. Wonderful service and tour of the home.
Wonderful service, atmosphere, food and tour! It was my husband's Birthday, we wanted something special ,the Birthday dinner was the perfect choice. A Happy Birthday greeting, menu, piano piece and dessert with candle made it a perfect night. The Ghost bar and tour was a perfect way to end the evening!!Thank you to all!
Everything about our experience was exceptional. Every staff member was personable, kind, and humorous to talk to. The bartender Alfred and our server Angie connected with us on our plans for the evening and were full of helpful suggestions. The food was cooked and seasoned PERFECTLY. I had the beef Wellington and my date had the salmon. Both were phenomenal. We will be returning.
Excellent experience as usual…the food was wonderful and our waiter was very personable!
Tea at the Whitney is a great experience. You can't beat the setting. The food is great and our server, Annie, was amazing. This was my second time coming to tea and won't be my last (although I do think I should try dinner here too!).
