The server was pretty ambivalent in helping us—she wasn’t mean, just distant. The food was outstanding s was the beer selection. It came promptly and their burger was the first one I’ve had in years that actually came cooked exactly the way I wanted.
My husband and I like to try different places and this one did not impress us at all. I would not recommend.
Food, service and the bottomless sangrias are always great at The White Oak tavern. And it's never crowded.
Good food, great service. Family friendly but also delivers really well as a sports bar.
It's a basic restaurant and bar. Both food and service were good. A good selection of beers but a limited wine list.
The food was great overall-I loved my meal, and so did my boyfriend. The desserts were ok, but nothing too special.
I loved their special burger and they allowed me to sample one of the beers before committing to it.
The menu and food were excellent. The noise level is another matter. The main dining room was loud, like cannot hear the person seated never to me loud. They were apologetic about it. When I come again, I will wait for outside seating.
A great meal and very friendly service. The Fried Green tomatoes were amazing!
Our waiter needs more training!!! He got our order wrong and the German beer I had to go to the bar looking for it after 30 min went past. The beer head was flat. I couldn't believe the bartender didn't pour another one and she carried these drinks to our table because our waiter was outside without a clue to what he was doing!
The service from Lauren was impeccable. The food was fantastic especially the cobb salad. The ambiance is absolutely perfect and right in line with what you would expect for Ellicott City and all of its quaintness. Value was very good for the quality and freshness of the food. Overall a really enjoyable experience and we will definitely be coming back at least twice a month!
Came with out well behaved dog and enjoyed sitting outside on a nice day. Service was very good as was the food. I had the special risotto, which was very good, and my partner enjoyed her French dip - although the meat was a bit dry. Like what the chef is doing by way of specials. Liked the all day breakfast offerings in the past. However, we'll definitely return. (Need more pet friendly places in Howard county.)
We were the first customers of the day for a special birthday brunch. My 8 year old had her first GROWN UP meal. Good choice sweetheart steak and eggs at White Oaks Tavern. YUM!
My wife requested White Oak Tavern for her birthday dinner and we had an excellent time. Food and service were outstanding. Love the local brews.
Terrific food. There were too many patrons who weren't there for the (excellent) band, who were casually loud and rude, and who made it less pleasant than it could have been for the rest of us. But that's people; can't fault the venue at all based on one night.
Tonight's dinner was DELIGHTFUL. It was supremely flavorful. All four of us in the party, separately raved about the excellence of the meal. What a great way to celebrate a BIG birthday!
The server was not informed of what was not available. The 1st drink I ordered was unavailable (rose wine). The special I ordered was unavailable (cantelope proscuitto caprese). There were only about 5-6 items on the specials list- why wasn't it crossed out or why didn't the sever mention it was unavailable. The item finally ordered was unedible- a deep fried spring roll that was nothing but fried batter. Very disappointing. Have been there a few times but probably wont return. Train your staff.
Met friends halfway and LOVE IT!
We chose to celebrate my husband's birthday at White Oak and, sadly, we were a little disappointed. The menu seemed like it had not been revamped in some time. We noticed quite a few of the same choices as our last visit, which was at least 6 months previous. It just left us with the feeling that the restaurant is not quite as fresh as it used to be. Meals were okay, but nothing was outstanding. I was also hoping to see a lot more interesting seasonal veggies featured, especially since it is summer.
Service was prompt and friendly.
Hi Jojo, I'm sorry to hear your last visit wasn't up to your standards. We change our menu 4 times a year and our new Summer menu debuts July 11th. I hope you see you then. Cheers!
The White Oak Tavern has one of the best burgers I have ever tasted. This was the reason for my second visit and I ordered the same thing I had before, the White Oak burger. They have won several awards for their burger and I agree that the awards were well deserved. Everything they make is made from scratch and they purchase locally grown vegetables. For those that like a nice cocktail, I would suggest the Blue Hawaiian. I will be returning.
Great flavor. Nice atmosphere
First the good points: my tuna poke bowl was a nice portion of tender raw tuna served with some veggies over rice. It was very tasty, but a tad too saucy. The French fries were quite good. Now the not so good: my husband ordered his hamburger medium rare; it was served medium well, and was very salty. The unsweetened iced tea was fine, and served in a large, sturdy plastic tumbler. However, the straw was too short for the glass, so it was difficult to drink. I'm not sure if we'll give the place another chance.
Sorry, y'all. Never again. The service was BAD. The food was mediocre. Creatively, you used the same sauces for multiple "small plates". The beef & broccoli might have been good if there was enough to actually taste it. Who serves food in pairs to a group? The egg rolls should have been cut. Disappointing. Won't recommend.
Our first visit to White Oak Tavern was good and bad. The majority of the food we got was great- the fried pretzel bites with black bean queso and the brisket stroganoff were exceptional! The beer and cocktail list was also large enough to give you lots of options without feeling like they just had everything. The main trouble spots were with the service. It took a long time to get drinks or order food and our server would go MIA. We definitely would have ordered more drinks but he was never around to tell . The food came out with good time, but I think mostly because it wasn't our server bringing it out, it was coming directly from the kitchen. We also received uncooked biscuits as part of one of our meals and the server acted like he couldn't care less about it. Overall, I think we would still go back to give it at least one more chance.
Our waitress was awesome and attentive . The food was Phenomenal!
Great restaurant. Food is on point with flavor, portion size, and selection. My picky eating children tore up the chicken fingers, and the kids portion was adequate enough to feed both of them (5 yrs, 2.5 yrs).
The beer selection is bigger than I can read, so I imagine that have something for everyone. Overall good value for the $$ and I would highly recommend the Oak Tavern Burger with bacon! Can't go wrong my friends.
Love White Oak Tavern. Love the food, beer, and house made catsup
The beer selection and service were great. The food was just okay. The "roasted" broccoli was mushy and, overall, the price was high for modest serving sizes. Go if you want to try lots of different beers.
I chose this restaurant based on a prior visit @ 2 years ago - very nice with good food. It was also being promoted by open table. We were @ 5 minutes early for an 8 PM reservation and were greated warmly and seated promptly. There were only a few tables seated - most ending their meals. My husband and watched for around 15 minutes while wait staff walked around us, stood around doing nothing and generally ignored us. Nobody every came over to greet our table, to bring water, or take an order. We got up and left. My husband asked to speak with the manager, his attitude was pretty much "so what." I went on to make a reservation for Elkridge Furnice Inn and we had a wonderful dinner with superb service (as always)!
Nice casual restaurant. Very good beer list. I got the burger, which was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Our orders were taken soon after we were seated and the wait for our food was very reasonable. I thought the prices were a little high for what you get but I would go back.
Friday birthday brunch, so things were relatively quiet. The food was very flavorful and service was impeccable. Great local, casual choice!
Sat outside. Couldn’t get the drink one of us wanted as they were out of an ingredient. Ordered wings that were never delivered. Turned outside lights off while we were still there-well before closing. Not impressed.
We had a coupon. We’d return with another coupon. The server was helpful with the beer selection. We ordered The White Tavern Burger and added bacon. The onions made everything soggy. Next time we’ll order them on the side. The bacon added no significance. Next time I’ll not add it.
The burger was delicious the fries too!! Will not order fried green tomatoes again. The breading was bland. It needed more of the sauce. Would like to try the cheesesteak egg rolls.
Would recommend folks try White Oak Tavern as long as they’re okay with relatively high prices and high noise level. The menu is interesting though not extensive. Kimchi Fried Rice was very good. Brisket stroganoff was good but salty. Very good draft beer selection - they adjust pour sizes to keep all beers at $7, which I would rather they didn’t do. Some pours are only 8 ounces as a result. We were told they change up the menu every quarter.
Good food. Lots of beer choices 🍺
We've eaten here several times and alway had very good food, beer and service. Our waiter was particularly good, helpful and humorous without being obtrusive. Caught the first few songs of female singer acoustic guitar. Very talented ...we stayed a little longer to listen to her, and the sound level was just right. Kudos to all. We will be back
The mashed potatoes are the best I have ever had.
Delicious fresh food off a varied menu. Tuna salad sandwich was fresh and delicious, and a black bean quest appetizer had the perfect amount of spice. Great service, short wait for food.
We have been to White Oak Tavern probably around ten times and have had excellent food every single time. We love the seasonal change in the menu--and the bacon bowl, which thankfully is a permanent offering! My two (minor) complaints are that it is always pretty dim in there (old eyes!) and rather noisy during peak hours. Nonetheless, we will keep going back because the food is totally worth it.
We’ve been here on a few different occasions but this will probably be our last. The food was not worth what they charge and the service crawled at a snails pace. If you’re just wanting to have a drink at the bar, it’s okay but I’ve been to better.
